Trump vs the Media: Files Suit Against Murdoch, WSJ, Says Happy That Colbert Canceled, Wishes Same for Kimmel

As the Epstein burns around him, Donald Trump is on a tear against the media.

He’s sued Rupert Murdoch and the Wall Street Journal over their story that he once sent a raunchy birthday card to Jeffrey Epstein. The card included a drawing, to which Trump responded that he wouldn’t do that.

But there have been plenty of examples of Trump’s little doodles sent to various fans and friends over the years posted all day on the web.

At the same time, Trump is taking a victory lap over the cancellation of Stephen Colbert’s show — which is icky since he’s responsible to it in the first place. He also crowed that Jimmy Kimmel should be next.

CBS and Shari Redstone are totally to blame for the Colbert mess, as they are the one with “60 Minutes.” They’ve rolled over and played dead, and actively consorted with Trump — they let him blackmail them — so that Redstone could get her payday and get out of the business.

I’m sure there’s a lot of fear right now at CBS News, Paramount Pictures, MTV, Comedy Central and other Paramount companies over what will happen next. There reports that CBS’s new owner, David Ellison, is bringing back much-loathed former news chief David Rhodes, who ran Fox News before his first CBS stint.

Trump had a lot of luck suing ABC and George Stephanopolous and CBS over “60 Minutes.” The people he dealt with were cowards. But Murdoch is not going to give in the same way. He’s loaded, and reports to himself. As long as the WSJ reporting is solid, Murdoch is not going to jeopardize his worldwide operation.

CBS Says Colbert Cancellation is “Financial” But Network Owns the Ed Sullivan Theater, and It’s Landmarked

0

We know CBS is lying about why Stephen Colbert’s show has been cancelled.

They say it’s “financial,” but just going by social media responses, the consensus is the plug has been pulled because of politics.

And while ad revenue may be down, CBS is ignoring the fact the production of Colbert does not cost that much.

No one’s mentioned that the network actually owns the Ed Sullivan Theater. They bought it for David Letterman in 1993 for $4.5 million, and renovated it in 2006.

The network has limited options of how to dispose of the theater, which is a designated New York City Landmark and a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

True, one of the Broadway theater companies could buy it. They’d be the only likely customers. But there are plenty of theaters already under the Broadway league. It’s unclear if it would be needed. It would also take a lot to bring the Ed Sullivan Theater back to commercial standards. Right now it seats around 400 people, although when it was originally built it accommodated 1,500.

Of course, the theater holds a lot of history from the Sullivan era including the Beatles and so many other performers who made their debuts there. But the new owners of CBS will probably be satisfied to turn it into a Sephora.

Box Office: “Summer” Scares Up $2.2 Mil in Previews, “Eddington” Arrives DOA for A24 with Just $625K

0

Thursday night previews provided a mixed message for the box office.

The reboot of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” took in $2.2 million. How will it do as word spreads? The reviews aren’t very promising — 38% — but the brand is strong. Still, the audience reaction on Rotten Tomatoes is just 69%.

A24 unaccountably made another movie with Ari Aster and Joaquin Phoenix after the horrendous mess of “Beau is Afraid.” Now “Eddington” has opened DOA with just $625K. Reviews are getting worse, dropping to 66%. Better not to put any more reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meantime, “Superman” will cross $200 mil in the US this weekend. International stands at $95 million so far.

Not accounted for last night: “Smurfs,” which didn’t have previews but should do gangbusters this weekend.

HBO Says “The Gilded Age” Hit Series High Ratings Last Week, But Not on Their Channel, Where Numbers Declined

0

We all love “The Gilded Age.” It’s become a surefire hit soap opera, eye candy and full of intrigue befitting the legacies of “Dynasty” and “Dallas” (not so much “Downton Abbey”).

HBO says this past Sunday’s episode scored a series high rating of 3.8 million viewers. That’s impressive since the linear rating was just 520,000 viewers, actually down slightly from the previous week.

What does this mean? I guess the answer is that many fewer people are watching HBO on cable than on streaming. “The Gilded Age” is shown twice on HBO, at 9pm and 10pm. HBO Max must be booming. Is this an indication that customers are cutting their cable services dramatically? Could be.

There are four more episodes this season, and all signs point to a fourth season renewal. HBO should be able to get five seasons out of this series. The quality level is exceptional, the story telling is brisk, and the actors are all A plus.

The number of Broadway giants in every scene is sort of mind blowing. Phylicia Rashad, Audra McDonald, Donna Murphy, Nathan Lane — wow — not to mention Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and so on.

Grammy Winning Mexican Singer Natalia LaFourcade Cancels Kennedy Center Appearance as Theater Has Few Fall Bookings

0

The Kennedy Center is having trouble booking acts or keeping performers on their schedule.

Now popular Mexican singer Natalia LaFourcade has canceled her October 17th show.

There’s been no announcement, and in all the Kennedy Center promotional materials online LaFourcade’s show is still listed.

But a visit to the Kennedy Center’s website indicates the show is marked Canceled.

LaFourcade is a wildly popular international star currently in the middle of a year long tour. We’ll see her in New York next spring. She’s currently performing in Spain, has a bunch of sold out shows in Mexico in September, and then hits Los Angeles and the west coast.

The singer has four Grammy Awards, 18 Latin Grammys, a Billboard Latin Music Award and three MTV Video Music Awards Latin America.

Of course there’s no doubt LaFourcade has canceled the Kennedy Center because of the politics since Donald Trump took over.

Without LaFourcade, the Kennedy Center schedule is pretty light this fall. They have the musical, “Parade,” coming in and a touring company of “The Sound of Music.” Otherwise, there’s no buzz at all.

Meantime, we should soon hear the names of this year’s Kennedy Center honorees. Will they all be right wing, Christian, or country artists? Or will deserving types like Liza Minnelli and Denzel Washington be invited? And if so, will they show up or go to the White House?

Stay tuned…

Watch Stephen Colbert Tell His Audience CBS Has Canceled His Number 1 Rated Talk Show, Then Interview Trump Nemesis Adam Schiff

0

You can watch here as Stephen Colbert broke the news last night about his show being canceled.

The audience was stunned and started shouting for Colbert..

David Ellison and the new team at Paramount are pulling the plug in May 2026, getting rid of Colbert and his truth telling about Trump. Colbert’s show beats Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel every night, and gives the network a way of being connected to show business.

Ellison doesn’t care about that. He can air reruns of “FBI Most Wanted” at 11:30pm and not pay a thing to anyone. Maybe he’ll just put up a Gone to Sleep sign, a test pattern, and send network TV back to 1948.

Ironically, Colbert’s first guest last night was Trump nemesis Senator Adam Schiff. We still have 10 months of Colbert to look forward to as Trump unravels or just drops dead from congestive heart failure

New Pro Trump CBS Owners Cancel “Colbert,” Streaming Platforms Will Fight for Him

The cowards who are buying CBS have canceled “The Late Show with Steohen Colbert” after the 2025-26 season.

CBS will get out of the Late night talk show business after four decades.

They say it’s budget related. But we all know that pro Trump new owner David Ellison is protecting Donald Trump from Colbert’s keen satire.

Streaming networks like Netflix, Amazon, will fight to bring Colbert over.

But the dismantling of CBS has begun. This is the opening salvo. Ellison, whose father is in business with Trump, will gut William Paley’s legacy like a fish.

Jon Stewart and The Daily Show are next. But the real damage will be at CBS News, already compromised by settling Trump’s lawsuit against “60 Minutes.”

What damage Ellison will do to Paramnount Pictures and Simon & Schuster remains a frightening question.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham Call a Truce, The World Heals, Tour Next?

0

The world is healing.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham have called a truce. The two members of Fleetwood Mac have each issued conciliatory messages on social media.

Stevie wrote: “And if you go forward…”

Lindsey responded: “I’ll meet you there.”

Hallelujah!

The long ago former couple fell out a couple of years ago. Buckingham left the group. Nicks declared she’d been badly treated by him for years. He disputed that. An ugly divorce ensued.

In the interim, Christine McVie died. It looked like the end for The Mac. But now a final tour is possible. Mick Fleetwood and John McVie must be dancing. Hundreds of millions of dollars are involved.

Fleetwood Mac continues to be a huge money maker even semi retirement.  Their Greatest Hits album is always on the charts. Their songs are heard in commercials constantly. A reunion would be more than welcomed.

Don’t stop thinking about tomorrow!

Weather or Not: Steve Miller Band Cancels Whole Tour Because of Storms Even Though Most Shows Were Set for Indoors

0

You know Steve Miller. Some people call him “Maurice.” His hits include “The Joker,” “Fly Like an Eagle,” “Jet Airliner.”

He just cancelled the entire tour of the Steve Miller Band because of weather. He’s afraid of storms.

Of course, almost all the shows were set for the indoors. A few were in amphitheaters, near baseball stadiums where teams play no matter what’s happening. If Steve suddenly got spooked by lightning and thunder, they could have rebooked the outdoor locations.

Miller is a well known eccentric but I’m not sure if insurance will pay off a tour cancelled for this reason. Is there something else? It seems like tickets were selling well, but obviously there was disagreement about something other than meteorology.

This is what he wrote on Instagram:

Dear Steve Miller Band fans,

You make music with your instincts

You live your life by your instincts

Always trust your instincts…

The Steve Miller Band has cancelled all of our upcoming tour dates.

The combination of extreme heat, unpredictable flooding, tornadoes, hurricanes and massive

forest fires make these risks for you our audience, the band and the crew unacceptable. So…

You can blame it on the weather…The tour is cancelled.

Don’t know where, don’t know when… We hope to see you all again.

Wishing you all Peace, Love and Happiness,

Please take care of each other.”
