Alec Baldwin Strikes Back, Sues Santa Fe County, DA’s Office, for Malicious Prosecution in “Rust” Case

0

Alec Baldwin has filed suit against Santa Fe County and the District Attorney’s office for malicious prosecution in the “Rust” case.

You can read the lawsuit here.

The 73 page lawsuit begins:

“For the better part of the last three years, however, Defendants … blinded by their desire to convict Alec Baldwin for all the wrong reasons, and at any cost, for the October 2021 accidental shooting of Halyna Hutchins. Defendants’ misconduct in their pursuit of Baldwin, and the trial judge’s condemnation of them, has already drawn world-wide attention. But this action is necessary to vindicate Baldwin’s rights and deter Defendantsfrom attempting to do this to anyone else.”

Baldwin’s lawyers then enumerate how the Santa Fe DA’s office pursued him several times in the October 2021 accidental death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

On July 31, 2024, the trial court dismissed with prejudice all charges against
Baldwin on the grounds that Defendants’ “egregious discovery violations,” “suppressed
evidence,” and “false testimony” deprived Baldwin of his constitutional right to a fair trial.

It reads:

“Because Defendants’ actions were motivated by evil motive or intent and involved
a reckless or callous indifference to Baldwin’s federally protected rights, an award of punitive damages is appropriate to the fullest extent permitted by law.”

Baldwin is demanding a jury trial. The lawsuit was filed by firms Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan and Le Blanc Law. By the time this is over, Baldwin is likely to own much of Santa Fe, if he wants it.

(Watch) Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood’s Sublime Performance of “Imagine” at Jimmy Carter Funeral

0

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood performed John Lennon’s “Imagine” today at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

It was a sublime rendition, one that showed their love and respect for the former president.

In all, the funeral was exceptionally classy with the exception of Donald and Melania Trump. Donald wouldn’t stop chewing off the ear of Barack Obama, the only person who would sit next to him. George W. Bush snubbed Trump — although it would have been more helpful if he campaigned for Kamala Harris. Trump also bored holes in the back of Harris’s head when he realized she wouldn’t speak to him, either.

One day, Trump will have a funeral and none of those people will attend. I think he understands that at granular level. He’s said such horrible things about Bush, Obama, the Clintons, Harris, Biden. No one will give him the time of day.

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell Stops “Bibi Files” Q&A to Take Call from Daughter About LA Fires

0

The Los Angeles fires had an immediate effect here in New York Tuesday night.

MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell was on stage in the middle of a post-screening Q&A for the documentary “The Bibi Files” when his phone rang. It was his daughter calling from Los Angeles, he said after excusing himself. He explained she was in the evacuation area of Los Angeles, and trying to discern which art to rescue from the fires raging there.

Huh? What? For almost everyone in the audience this was the first time they’d heard about the wildfires in Los Angeles. They were just starting as big news.

Meantime, the documentary had reached its own heat with the revelation that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had actually allowed the funding Hamas through Qatar. To stay in power, to avert jail for corruption, Netanyahu saw his chance to fuel chaos.

Filmmakers Alex Gibney and Alexis Bloom (who’s also married to actor Filmmaker Fisher Stevens) obtained secret footage showing Netanyahu’s duplicity. Wanting to keep his enemies closer, he would control the violence, allowing Hamas to set the fires as he contained the height of the flames.

October 7 was a direct result. “The Bibi Files” reveals much through interviews conducted by police in Netanyahu’s office with a map of the Middle East in the background. Investigated for gifts of champagne, cigars, and jewelry, the prime minister maintains he is the victim of a witch hunt.

The result is a stunning expose that no US distributor would take on, even after world rights were snapped up in most countries. Netflix, Amazon, et al all turned it down. So Gibney and Bloom went to the new Jolt streaming service. You can watch “The Bibi Files” there for $12.99, and it’s worth every penny.

As for O’Donnell, as of last night his house was safe. He said on his MSNBC show that a friend had seen his house standing. But with the wind and the capricious nature of embers, it’s still touch and go. You can start watching below at about 16:00.

Emmy Winner Jean Smart Urges Hollywood Not to Have Any More Awards Shows After Fires

0

Multiple awards winner Jean Smart, star of “Hacks,” has posted an urgent notice to Instagram.

She wants the various TV networks not to broadcast awards shows this winter. Instead, she says, give the money to LA firefighters and police.

Smart is up for Critics Choice and SAG awards this winter. I guess she’s not going to either ceremony despite the fact she’s going to win. She just won a Golden Globe.

Well, the networks could make large donations to police and fire organizations, and groups like Project Angel Food, and animal rescue. No Oscars, Jean? I think they will go with a low key offering this year.

Watch Trailer for Newest Sean Diddy Combs Documentary, But Still No Sign of Publicist or “Butler”

0

An avalanche of Diddy documentaries.

Peacock has one coming on January 14th called “The Making of a Bad Boy,” which has already been previewed.

Now comes one from ID and Rolling Stone with more revelations of Seam Combs’s abuse, anger, and sexual malfeasance. It’s called “The Fall of Diddy.”

Still, no sign of the really close Combs associates Nathalie Moar and Derek Watkins aka Fonzworth Bentley. Moar was Combs’s publicist for 25 years. Bentley was his valet/butler. Both of them know where all the bodies are buried.

Fire UPDATES: Oscar Voting, Nominations Delayed, Plus Critics Choice Awards Rescheduled to January 26th

0

The Palisades fire continues to change the Hollywood awards schedules.

Oscar voting has been extended to January 14th, two days later than originally announced. The nominees will be revealed for the first time in decades on a Sunday, January 19th.

Another change: the Critics Choice Awards will take place on January 26th, on the E! channel. The awards were supposed to be broadcast this Sunday, but that couldn’t happen. The show will hosted by Chelsea Handler. Originally the Critics Choice would have been an influence on Oscar nominations. Now, it will bear more influence on final round voting.

All of Hollywood is at a standstill now on a professional basis. The personal is all that’s important now as people try to regain their footing after losing their homes.

Cher Tells Jimmy Kimmel Part 2 of Memoir Set for November Isn’t Written Yet: “I’m a bit tardy”

0

Jimmy Kimmel did a pretty great interview with Cher last night.

She told him part 2 of her memoir, set for November release, isn’t written yet. “I’m a bit tardy,” she said.

Kimmel was incredulous since the pub date looks iffy now. She assured him she’d be ready. She said the first part wasn’t finished until the last minute.

Kimmel asked her the last time she drove a car. She replied it’s been a while, but she just bought a car. We didn’t get the make, but you know it’s something expensive and cool. Bentley convertible, sky blue, would be my choice for Cher.

Is there a last name on her driver’s license? “I don’t have a last name,” she replied. Well, she does — Cherlyn Sarkisian Bono Allman. But of course, the whole world knows her as Cher.

Nice stuff. She’s one of the last stars in the celebrity sky.

Shocker: “The Brutalist,” Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman Among Snubs as SAG Nominations Narrow Oscar Choices

0

The Screen Actors Guild announced its nominees by press release this morning, skipping their live presentation because of the Los Angeles fires.

SAG, as usual, narrows the Oscar field. Their nominations, more than anything else, are a good predictor of Oscar nominations.

SNUBBED: “The Brutalist,” Brady Corbet’s three and a half hour epic was denied Best Ensemble. Stunning. A24 must be in tears. Only Adrien Brody was nominated for Best Actor. Even Guy Pearce’s supporting actor work was overlooked.

So SAG snubbed big name actresses Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie in favor of indie names and less starry entries Mikey Madison, Pamela Anderson, Cynthia Erivo, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Demi Moore.

Their top 5 movies — based on ensemble work– are A Complete Unknown, Anora, Wicked, Conclave, and Emilia Perez.

(The Directors Guild nominations were mostly the same, exchanging Wicked’s Jon M. Chu for Corbet.)

The actor noms are exactly what’s been happening in every awards situation. Daniel Craig, Adrien Brody, Ralph Fiennes, Timothee Chalamet, and Colman Domingo.

Surprises in the supporting category: Jonathan Bailey from “Wicked” is very odd. Danielle Deadwyler from “The Piano Lesson” finally got some love. So did Jamie Lee Curtis from “The Last Showgirl” — which I predicted in September — and Monica Barbaro from “A Complete Unknown.” Sadly cut out is Isabella Rossellini from “Conclave.”

Hollywood on Fire: Everything Canceled: AFI Luncheon, BAFTA Tea, Critics Choice, All Weekend Premieres, TV on Hiatus

0

Hollywood is on fire.

I’m hearing that the Critics Choice Awards, set for Sunday, will not take place.

Ditto the annual AFI luncheon for Friday and BAFTA Tea for Saturday.

Many TV series have suspended filming. Jimmy Kimmel is on hiatus because of the fires.

As more than 30,000 people have been evacuated from their homes, Pacific Palisades, parts of Santa Monica and close areas are all on fire. Hundreds of homes, schools, and institutions have been lost.

Because of this, the Screen Actors Guild has announced their nominations announcement this morning via press release. All movie premieres last night and tonight have been cancelled.

The fire is so vast that it’s laying claim to homes owned by a big part of the Hollywood community, all of whom would be involved in this weekend’s proceedings.

Armie Hammer Post-Cannibal Books Movie with Uwe Boll, Worst Film Director, Called “The Dark Knight”

0

Armie Hammer has booked a movie post-cannibal scandal.

The project is called — believe it or not — “The Dark Knight.” It’s not about Batman, according to Variety.

Hammer has been insisting that he’s getting a lot of work for the first time in four years. He was knee deep in being accused of sexual misconduct and cannibalism in 2020. His career fell apart, and he lost jobs.

Until recently, Hammer was considered not hire-able, similar to Kevin Spacey. But there’s always someone out there who’s willing to roll the dice on a pariah.

In “The Dark Knight,” Hammer will play the crime-fighting titular character in what’s described as a vigilante thriller — sort of like Batman gone awry. (Will Warner Bros. let him keep that title?)

Alas, Uwe Boll is probably the worst director in the business. His movies have Rotten Tomatoes ratings like 4% or 3%. Many of the films have never been reviewed at all, but their audience scores are also around 4%. This a far cry from Hammer’s big run in films like “The Social Network” and “The Man from UNCLE.”
