Fires: Critics Choice Awards Postponed for a Second Time, to “Sometime in February”

0

The Critics Choice Awards have been postponed again.

Originally set for January 12th, the LA wildfires prevented them from happening. The CCAs were moved to January 26th. And now that is off the table.

This is a crummy turn of events for the CCA, which generally predicts the Oscar nominations if not the awards themselves. But the universe has made it impossible to get anything done this season in a normal way.

Again, February Sundays are already booked with the Super Bowl, the “SNL 50” special, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Then the Oscars come on March 2nd. The CCA may have to move to a a weeknight sometime around the SAGs.

Hollywood is a mess. The fires are tragic, and people are at their wit’s end. Awards shows are not just for celebrities. Hundreds of people work on them, and need the work now more than ever.

Music Mogul Irving Azoff Sets Jan. 30th for Fire Aid Mega Concert in LA: Eagles, Harry Styles, Earth Wind & Fire Possible

The record companies aren’t having their parties, but Grammy weekend just got a jolt.

Music mogul Irving Azoff is organizing a mega concert called “Fire Aid” on January 30th at LA’s Intuit Dome. This should be along the lines of the “The Concert for New York” that was held after 9/11. “Fire Aid” will raise money for wildfire relief charities. The show will be produced along with Live Nation.

Azoff represents groups like The Eagles, Earth Wind & Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Maroon 5, and more. His son, Jeffrey, manages Harry Styles. Their wide range of artists stretches to U2. Chelsea Handler is also a client. She could host the show!

Details haven’t been announced yet, but they’re coming fast. Ticket prices should be high. LA has to raise a lot of money. Good on Azoff for taking this on!

Carrie Underwood’s Inauguration Performance Should Make Sales of Her Biggest Hit, “Before He Cheats,” Skyrocket

0

People are complaining that Carrie Underwood has been chosen to sing for Trump’s inauguration.

In fact, she is the perfect choice. Underwood’s biggest hit is called “Before He Cheats.”

We know that Trump is a serial cheater. He’s cheated on all of his wives with subsequent wives: on Ivana with Marla, on Marla with Melania. He cheated on Melania with Stormy Daniels.

The lyrics:
Right now, he’s probably slow dancing
With a bleached-blonde tramp
And she’s probably getting frisky
Right now, he’s probably buying her some fruity little drink
‘Cause she can’t shoot a whiskey
Right now, he’s probably up behind her with a pool-stick

This could be his first dance song at the Inauguration.

Underwood hasn’t had a hit in eons. Her record sales are minimal, which is probably what’s led her to take this job. Certainly, her iTunes sales will skyrocket on January 20th. “Before He Cheats” will hit number 1. So you see? There is a larger plan in the universe.

Kanye West, Unrepentant Antisemite, Is Trying for a Comeback with Something Called “Bully”

0

Is it an album? Is it a clothing line? Is it both?

It does seem like Kanye West, unrepentant antisemite, is going to try for a comeback with something called “Bully.”

West has restarted his Instagram page with weird videos and pictures.

He’s already railed against Adidas trying to unload their stock of his footwear at discount prices. He writes on one post: “To be specific Any brand other than Yeezy Fuck you Close your dirty ass laptops”

Kanye has been doing shows in Korea and places where his ugly antics either don’t matter or they don’t know about them. He’s turned his wife, Bianca Censori, into a blow up doll joke.

Do we really need this now? More disposable ugly clothes and shoes? Kanye, donate to the Relief Funds. You already destroyed one Malibu house. Make amends.

CBS, MSNBC Oust Heads of News After Swings to Exteme Left Prove Too Much, “60 Minutes” Especially

0

MSNBC’s news chief, Rashida Jones, is out. Rachel Maddow — who’s been working one a day for the last couple of years — is back five days a week for 100 days beginning January 20th.

The two things are not unrelated. Cause and effect. MSNBC is on the ropes as it’s being spun off. If Jones had gotten Maddow to come back, she’d still have her job. One plus one equals two.

Susan Zirinsky is back running CBS News this week. Zirinsky represents the CBS News old guard. (She was also the basis for Holly Hunter’s character in “Broadcast News.”) She’d left, retired, walked away. Now she’s returning to fix “60 Minutes” and “CBS Sunday Morning.”

What happened? A disaster at “60 Minutes” this past Sunday didn’t help. The show laid the blame for the middle east turmoil on Israel. The word ‘genocide’ was used freely. Many viewers gasped as they processed what was being said on screen.

Jonathan Greenblatt, head of the Anti-defamation League, wrote: “I’m outraged that @CBSnews’ @60minutes would air such a biased and one-sided piece, villainizing Israel and berating US support for its ally.”

He continued: “60 Minutes is supposed to be the gold standard for broadcast journalism, but they completely dropped the ball last night. Where are the counter perspectives to those interviewed? Where is the mention of the nearly 100 hostages – including Americans – STILL in captivity!? What kind of journalism is that?”

All these changes are not coincidences. Watch MSNBC re-center itself after losing almost all of its viewers since the election in November. And “60 Minutes’? They went over the line with Cecilia Vega’s report blaming Israel for continuing the war with Hamas. As much as we all love most “60 Minutes” reports, Vega’s was beyond the pale.

Look for changes there immediately.

Oscars Are Safe for Now, But Can Vanity Fair Have Its Non-Charitable Party with Embers Smoldering?

0

For now, it appears, the Academy Awards will still take place on March 2nd. The Academy will no doubt offer a charitable contribution and perhaps celebrate first responders in the audience.

But the fires are still raging in Los Angeles, and tens of thousands of people are homeless, or displaced, and entire communities have been destroyed.

Elton John will have his annual fundraiser for his AIDS Foundation because the proceeds all go to a very worthy cause, as usual.

But what about Vanity Fair? With declining circulation and readership, the former watercooler talk magazine has turned itself into one thing: a party thrower. The annual Vanity Fair Oscar party sucks all the oxygen out of Oscar night following the big show. But it’s never been about anything other than promoting itself.

Now Vanity Fair faces a big dilemma: will they really set up shop on Santa Monica Boulevard with tents, a red carpet, a huge security presence while embers smolder just a few miles away? Even if the Pacific Palisades party is 100% contained by next week, the immediate fall out won’t be resolved in any fashion.

Indeed, many of the invitees will come from Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Malibu and environs. It’s one thing to show up for charity — aka the AIDS foundation. But will anyone go to a party whose sole design is to be publicly exclusive? It seems tone deaf, to say the least.

The magazine and its sponsors spend millions on that tiresome party. But this year, Conde Nast would probably get more attention for its brands if it just donated all that money to the relief funds. Do we really need to see all the Kardashians, et al decked out in their tacky finery with the magazine’s logo behind them? And to hear they dined out on Wolfgang Puck pizzas? It will be instructive to see what they decide.

Trump Attacks Late Night Host Seth “Marble Mouth” Meyers, Who Will Use It to His Advantage Tonight

0

Donald Trump is attacking NBC late night host, Seth Meyers.

The irony of this is, it was Meyers who provoked Trump to run for president at the 2015 White House Correspondents Dinner. Meyers was so hilariously vicious to Trump as host of the dinner that the orange guy decided to run for president.

On Truth Social Trump wrote: “How bad is Seth Meyers on NBC, a “network” run by a truly bad group of people – …every time I watch this moron I feel an obligation to say how dumb and untalented he is, merely a slot filler for the Scum that runs Comcast.”

Meyers obviously hit a sore spot for Trump, which is the funniest part of this whole thing. Meyers will undoubtedly double his ratings tonight — it’s worth staying up til 12:30 just to see his response.

Trump called Meyers “Marble Mouth” but he really meant Mumble Mouth, I think. But Trump also confuses “half mast” and “half staff.” Flags will fly at half staff during his inauguration as America mourns democracy.

The Weeknd Cancels Rose Bowl Concert, Pushes New Album Release to January 31st

0

Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd knows which way the wind is blowing.

The mega pop star has canceled his Rose Bowl concert. He’s also pushed the release of his new album by a week.

“Hurry Up Tomorrow” will now drop on Friday, January 31st.

Tesfaye is just ahead of the curve as concerts are being canceled, postponed, or moved. Album releases, as well. This is all because thousands of people are homeless or displaced after the still burning Palisades wildfires.

The Grammy Awards say they’re going on as scheduled for February 2nd. But the big record companies like Warners and Universal have pulled the plug on parties and events.

Stay tuned for more…

Grammy Update: Warner Music Cancels Party But Musicares Dinner Must Go On to Help People Like Aimee Mann’s Producer

0

Now Warner Music has canceled their pre-Grammys party set for January 30th.

Warners joins Universal Music Group, which earlier today scotched their post-Grammy party.

The Recording Academy insists the Grammys will take place on Sunday, February 2nd. They haven’t canceled the show or their Musicares fundraiser on January 31st. Yet.

The Musicares is actually vitally important to keep on the schedule as the group needs all the donations it can get to help musicians and music people who’ve experienced massive loss in the wildfires.

For example: famed music mastering engineer Bob Clearmountain lost his home and legendary studio.

“We just figured we’d be back in a few days,” Clearmountain said in an interview. “That once the evacuation order was lifted, we’d just be loading everything back into the house. It really didn’t occur to us that this could be the end of our world.”

There are dozens of stories like this one. Aimee Mann has started a GoFundMe page for her long time producer and collaborator, Paul Bryan. Mann wrote on Instagram (see below):

“Let me tell you about Paul. He is most dedicated musician I know, a tireless worker and practicer, someone who will go way out of his way to help you do what you need to do. For him, the show really must go on, and it doesn’t matter what terrible thing has just happened to him, he is going to show up. All he cares about is making what you are doing better. He has gone out of his way for me a thousand times, and so I want to go out of my way for him.”

All of this makes the Musicares event honoring The Grateful Dead more important than ever.

Universal Music — With Most Nominations — Cancels All Grammy Parties Even if the Show Goes On

0

Earlier I told you the Grammy Awards were happening on February 2nd.

Now comes news that the company with most nominees is pulling their parties.

Universal Music, home of Taylor Swift, and so on, will not entertain anyone over Grammy weekend.

“Today we have cancelled all of our Grammy-related events, including the Artist Showcase and After-Grammy Party and will redirect the resources that would have been used for those events to assist those affected by the wildfires,” a statement from the company read. “Our deepest gratitude goes to the first responders and emergency personnel, who continue to perform heroically.”

It concluded, “L.A. is home to so many of us. We are committed to helping and supporting the music community, our artists, our teams and the people of Los Angeles get through this horrific episode.”

Now the ball is in Sony Music and Warner Music’s respective courts. Will there be no events to go with the Grammys. Quite possibly. Stay tuned…
