Kanye Fails to Make South Carolina Ballot, Doesn’t Turn in Petition with Signatures: Crazy PR Stunt WAS for New Album

Kanye West won’t be on the South Carolina ballot.

He never turned in the signatures needed or the petitions so he would be eligible.

According to the Charleston Post and Courier: “West’s only remaining path in South Carolina would be to receive the presidential nomination of one of the 10 certified political parties in the state. He had previously announced he would be running as a candidate under the self-created “Birthday Party.”

No one ever showed up today with the needed signatures after Kanye’s crazy appearance yesterday in which he sobbed, carried on about the debate to abort his first child, sullied the name of Harriet Tubman, and otherwise had a meltdown.

As I told you just two days ago, the South Carolina PR stunt was to get attention for a new album, allegedly dropping this Friday.

It may have also been part of a bi-polar episode, which started with his presidential announcement on July 4th and has basically made no sense and been one outburst after another.

Kanye also has new, very expensive sneakers coming this week. They cost $580, from Adidas. I made an offer one site to pay $100 for a pair, was rejected. I am very, very glad.

More Friars Club Madness: Ex-CEO, Ousted, Guilty of Personal Tax Evasion, Now Suing Club for Back Pay

EXCLUSIVE

There is chutzpah and then there is chutzpah.

Michael Gyure (pronounced “jury,” ironically) ran the famed Friars Club into the ground. He was finally dismissed, as he says here in a letter to members that went out today. But not dismissed before he pleaded guilty to personal tax fraud. Because of Gyure, the Friars Club was raided by Federal Postal Inspectors. I’m told it’s still an open investigation. At the tax fraud hearing, some members of the Club showed up to support this guy. Very Trump rally-ish. Very Stockholm syndrome.

So guess what? Now Gyure says he’s suing the Club, which has been destroyed, looted, flooded, up its ears in debt. No normal celebrity remains. Seinfeld, Letterman, Fallon, Colbert, Seth Meyers– they should all be part of it. They won’t go near it. The members are gone. The staff is gone. Last year they honored alongside of Billy Crystal a man named Ronnie “Shoes” Nistico, for weapons charges, and for assault (eventually settled). The Friars lost their non profit standing as a 501 c3 as well. They haven’t filed a Form 990 with the IRS in over three years.

All of this comes under Gyure’s accomplishments. Now he’ll sue. You’ve got to hand it to this guy. He won’t be done until he’s bled the Club dry. Look below to see what he was getting from an organization that had no money. Hundreds of thousands of dollars.

read today’s other big Friar’s Club news

Here’s the letter he sent out, sent to me by a spy:

Dear Friars Club Board of Governors,
Since I have not been given an opportunity to speak to you all directly following my departure from the Friars, I have decided to write this letter to say goodbye and to thank the Club members and leaders, for their past support and many good years together. I shall always hold happy memories of better times at the Friars Club.Additionally, I feel compelled to address the circumstances of my sudden termination and the discussions about my separation agreement.

As I have always been very fortunate to enjoy the overwhelming support of the Executive Committee and the Board in the past, I am deeply saddened that I am in the position where there was no other choice for me but to initiate a claim for what is rightfully owed to me and I would like you all to be apprised of this in advance.

As you know, my new ten-year employment extension was approved by the Board and then signed by the Executive Committee on March 2, 2020. Yet only two 2 weeks later I was asked to leave by the Executive Committee. My emails were abruptly cut off and I was locked out of my office where many of my personal items still remain. Regrettably, it appears that my objection to the Titan loan (at 9% interest) without fully exploring a broker free alternative (at 4.5% interest) was taken as a hostile act, when in fact it was merely an attempt to explore a more favorable term sheet issued by a bank.

Despite the unexpected loss of my job and the ensuing insecurities, especially during the pandemic, I remained as amicable and accommodating as possible during my separation negotiation. Knowing the Club’s current financial situation, I offered to receive the mutually agreed amount owed to me in small interest-free payments spread over eleven years, instead of in a single lump sum payment immediately. I think it is understandable, in this situation, to secure this beyond being a general creditor. I did not request a second mortgage on the building as I recognized that would place a difficult burden on the club to seek future funding. It is at this point that the negotiation fell apart as no security whatsoever was offered by the Club. There was a suggestion from the Club of a bond or another instrument to protect the funds, but none was actually presented to me.

Furthermore, I wanted to clarify potential misconceptions about my salary. My salary was $250,000 p.a. At the recommendation of the Club starting in 2019 I also received an annual $100,000 bonus paid quarterly to replace a previous expense allowance. There was also a deferred five percent raise I would have been entitled to receive over a ten-year period after my separation from the Club. (My predecessor also had deferred compensation which he finished receiving last summer in the amount of $500,000 over a ten-year period). This deferred raise was put in place by the Club in 2012 for two reasons: 1) A three percent cost of living raise similar to the contractual ones received annually by all union employees of the Club; and 2) A catch up of two percent to bring my pay up to industry norms.

In July 2019, due to the financial constraints of the Club, I volunteered to defer an additional amount of my salary at the rate of $100,000 p.a. so my revised salary was $150,000 p.a. This continued until it was anticipated that business interruption income, from our insurance policy, would cover my salary due to the leak in January 2020. Please know that it pains me greatly that I am forced to seek legal recourse against the Club that I still care about and was fully devoted to for 13 years.

I truly wish this were not the case. Nonetheless, I will always cherish fond memories of the good times at the Friars. I shall also always be thankful to the Club, and to many of you, for your past support. As I look forward to the next chapter in my life, I wish the Friars and you all well. I really hope the Friars is successful under your stewardship as it is a legendary club that deserves a bright future.

Sincerely,
Michael

Read the Full, Graphic Sex Harassment Lawsuit Against Fox News Anchors, Ed Henry Rape, Very Inappropriate Propositions from Hannity, Tucker, Kurtz

0

A huge new lawsuit against Fox News, anchors and personalities, indicates that nothing has changed since Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly’s era led to disgrace and dismissal.

Two women, Jennifer Eckhart and Cathy Areu have sued the network and Ed Henry– since fired, as well as Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and even Howard Kurtz. Howard Kurtz. The allegations against all the men are stunning and are backed up in the complaint with copies of emails and texts.

Eckhart claims she was “violently raped” by Henry after he groomed and he promised her career advancement. The rape occurred while she was “helpless and restrained in metal handcuffs, as Mr. Henry preformed sadistic acts on her without her consent that left her injured, bruised and battered with bloody wrists.”

Eckhart says Henry “sexually assaulted her on office property, and raped her at a hotel where Fox News frequently lodged its visiting employees, thereby facilitating, whether knowingly or unknowingly, Mr. Henry’s conduct.” Henry, she says, called her his “Little whore” and “sex slave.”

Included in the complaint are texts between Ekhart and Henry:

In addition to Ekhart’s claims, Cathy Areu alleges multiple situations of appropriate behavior, texts and emails from Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, and Howard Kurtz that are spelled out graphically in the complaint. She also names Gianno Caldwell, a political analyst for Fox News based in Miami, as a transgressor.

Considering what happened with Ailes and O’Reilly, it would seem that the “fish stinks from the head” lingers, and that the atmosphere at Fox News hasn’t changed much in the last two years.

Ekhart and Areu are asking for a jury trial. In the old days, Ailes would just pay them off, and shut them up. But post-Gretchen Carlson and O’Reilly’s $32 million settlement with another employee, I’m not sure that’s going to happen this time.

Studios Start to Move Film Releases Out of August, Sony Changes “Broken Hearts Gallery” Indefinitely, “Mulan” Next

0

This has been a weird time of denial.

Every two weeks the studios move the dates of releases hoping the virus will be cured and people will flood back into theaters.

I’m afraid that is not going to happen until there’s a vaccine. So today, like every other Monday, all releases are changing again.

“Tenet” has been moved into “I don’t know” by Warner Bros, which also flipped “Conjuring 3” to June 2021.

Now Sony has ditched August 12th for “Broken Hearts Gallery” and put it on forever hold. I’d just put that one on VOD or Netflix, frankly.

Ditto “Mulan,” which Disney will yank soon for the umpteenth time. Just put a promo on “Hamilton” and send it out on Disney Plus. This is tiresome.

Warners still has to deal with “Wonder Woman 1984.” Soon they’ll say “end of October.” But I don’t think we’re going to see any releases of major films before Thanksgiving.

The whole schedule is getting pushed back– “Black Widow,” and so on. I just hope Paramount will chill and only release “A Quiet Place, Pt. 2” only to theaters. It’s really, really good and deserves the big screen.

Nick Cannon Interviews Rabbi, Blames Everything on Hitler Picking Up “Hate from America” and White Supremacy “That Caused the Holocaust”

0

So Nick Cannon, dressed as Aladdin, sits down with Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in a highly edited conversation. They decide the common element in hate of Jews and blacks is “white supremacy.” Rabbi Cooper thinks Nick is being “sincere” but I’m not sure about what.

Nick: “You know what that common hate for the black community comes from and the Jewish community comes from? White supremacy. The idea of eugenics. It’s still placed on us today in America. And that Hitler adopted from –”

Rabbi: “That’s correct it came from America — ”

Nick: “and which caused the Holocaust — ”

Rabbi: “And now being used by the Communist party in China against Muslims.”

Let me get this straight. The Holocaust — the killing of six million Jews– was caused by hate that came from America, that Hitler capitalized on?

This is getting worse, not better. And this ability to produce rabbis from the Wiesenthal Center who are ready to forgive celebrities does not sit well with me, nor should it you. Rabbi Cooper, a few days ago, Nick Cannon was discussing his hatred of Jews. And nothing here addresses the very important Farrakhan matter. Let me hear Nick Cannon renounce Farrakhan, then I’ll listen. If you brought Cannon into any regular synagogue in this country, with any rabbi not from Hollywood, they would not find him “Sincere.”

Thank you, next.

Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” Taken off Warner Bros Release Schedule Indefinitely as Theaters in Main Markets Remain Closed

0

“Tenet’ is not opening on August 12th. Warner Bros. has taken it off the schedule indefinitely. (Keep refreshing.)

This is getting tiresome. How can Christopher Nolan’s film open if theaters are closed in New York, California, Florida and Texas? It can’t.

The new plan may include opening in countries where COVID is in abeyance and theaters are open.

Listen, I feel for Toby Emmerich and all our pals at Warner’s. Toby says in a statement: “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates. Amidst all this continued uncertainty, we have decided to vacate the current dates for our next two releases. We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet,  Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”

And the plan for a 10th anniversary showing on Nolan’s “Inception”? It was supposed to play beginning July 31st. And apparently we need to refresh our memories of the older film before we see this one. Not happening now. Stay tuned…

NY’s Friars Club New Scandal, Board Members in Revolt Over Secret Dealings, with the Same Villains as Before

In the most recent chapter of the legendary Friars Club destruction, I told you that the oprganization had lost its 501 (c) 3 standing a foundation or tax free charity. That followed years of deterioration that I originally started reporting on many years ago.

Remember Bruce Charet? He was the guy who was a self-appointed Friars Club celebrity wrangler. No one liked him. Then he caused the club to settle a sexual harassment suit for a rumored $1 million after he repeatedly called in to the club’s receptionist and talked dirty to her.

But the Club didn’t get rid of him. They said they did, but they didn’t. Instead, he was responsible for throwing an unsuccessful Friars Club East tribute to Larry King in Los Angeles at the low level “boutique” Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills. Charet’s been living there for free. The dinner was a bust.

The owner of the Crescent is a guy actually named Gregory Peck. He once worked for hoteliers Andre Balazs and for Ian Schrager. In 2008 he lost his shirt on the Cooper Square Hotel in New York.  After defaulting on millions in loans, the hotel was sold off.

Last year Peck and his partner/ex-wife, Susan Cronin, were famously responsible for the didn’t-happen 50th anniversary of Woodstock. It was a total disaster.

With Charet staying at the hotel and trading publicity services for free room, he managed also to get Cronin onto the board of the Friars Club as treasurer. And that’s where our new chapter begins.

Dissenting members of the Board have sent a letter to the Governors of the Friars Club on May 17th asking them to invalidate a $9 million loan organized and presented by Cronin. But Cronin, they say, failed to mention that Peck had set up the loan and would receive a commission. They say in the letter that by extension Cronin would benefit from the loan. (There’s no word on what Charet gets out of this.)

To wit, the letter signed by “Concerned Board Members”:

“The signatories to this letter have learned subsequent to February 3, 2020, that Susan Cronin had a serious conflict of interest when the Titan Loan Agreement was purportedly authorized.  Her ex-husband stands to benefit very significantly from the Titan Loan Agreement, because he will collect a share of a large brokerage fee. Ms. Cronin shares the cost and custody of her child with her ex-husband.  Thus, Ms. Cronin will benefit significantly from the Titan Loan Agreement. “

“As this situation has begun to come to light, several of the signatories to this letter have reached out to the other lenders who were approached about making a loan to the Club.  We have learned that their proposals were never seriously followed up on, and that Ms. Cronin showed no interest in pursuing alternative proposals to the onerous Titan Loan.  For example, we have learned that Connect One Bank was offering a $9 million loan to the Club at half the interest rate charged by Titan, and without any brokerage fee.  We believe that this alternative and others must be fully investigated, and we have every reason to believe that, if other lenders are consulted, the Club can obtain financing on far better terms than those included in the Titan Loan Agreement.   We urge the Board to repudiate the unauthorized Titan Loan Agreement, and seek other financing alternatives, which will, in the long run, save the Club hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

And so we come back around to the same question that plagues the Friars Club: why is Bruce Charet still involved? Also the word is that Michael Gyure — who everyone thought was finally gone after a conviction of personal tax fraud and causing the Club to be raided in 2017 by the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York — isn’t gone at all. Is this possible? I’m told Gyure “retired” with a large annual settlement but still lurks and has influence over this mess.

I’ll tell ya, this bunch is too much!

As usual, I invite whoever’s left to drop me a note at showbiz411@gmail.

Rapper Nicki Minaj Announces Pregnancy on Social Media with Joyous Pics of Large Baby Bump

0

Nicki Minaj is “preggers.” That’s what she announced this morning on Instagram with three pictures. She is large and in charge, and obviously very happy. She married her husband, Kenneth Petty, last November. She wrote on caption:
“Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes”

Congrats! That baby looks like it’s coming pretty soon, too. And this announcement is quite different than the one from Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, who apparently had a baby and didn’t tell anyone.

PS Google will no doubt send me a warning when they see these pictures. I’ll explain it to them. This is happiness. She’s so happy that she changed her Twitter handle to @MrsPetty.

Anna Wintour In Trouble: Vogue August Issue Has Just 90 Pages, with Only 23 Ad Pages Including One for Vogue.com

0

Anna Wintour may be in a lot of trouble over at Vogue. I’ve heard for a while that Conde Nast wants to bring over the editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful. They may reason to now.

Anna’s new issue for August may be a bell of bad wether for her. (Get that?)

Olympic star Simone Biles is on the cover in a pretty hard cover gritty sports-like photograph, not fashion oriented at all. (Both Vogue and Vanity Fair each have covers this month with black women. They do pivot fast. And this after years of no black cover subjects.)

Total number of pages is anemic and surprising 90. As in NINETY. I didn’t think you could do perfect binding for 90 pages. I thought you’d have to staple it.

More worrisome is that including the back cover and inside covers there are only 23 pages of ads. And one of them is for vogue.com.

Even the models who appear in Vogue aren’t that thin!

The August 2019 Vogue was 149 pages. It boasted a very snazzy Ariana Grande on the front. If only the magazine had been so kind to Biles.

One astute insider quipped to me:
“The fall fashion issues August and September are the “go to” for all retail advertisers. Gucci is not advertising. Nor is  Louis Vuitton or Ralph Lauren. Vogue is highlighting tacky ads by Kotex, Always and Skechers in their primary fall issue!!!”

She added, in horror: “The back inside page is GEICO !”

Oh, Anna: remember Si Newhouse and Mr. Liberman and Andre Leon Talley? You actually can’t forget Andre Leon Talley now. Irving Penn and Leo Lerman must be rolling in their graves.

UPDATE: Kanye Meltdown at “Campaign Rally” to Get on South Carolina Ballot, Promote New Album Named for Mother

0

UPDATE 7:46pm SUNDAY
Kanye appeared in South Carolina at a “campaign rally” for his fake presidential campaign. He’s trying to get signatures to get on that state’s ballot, but really he’s just making a scene in advance of his “Donda” album.

The sad part is that he was at one point sobbing, carrying on that his father wanted to abort him when his mother mother was pregnant, “But she saved me.” His father is alive, his mother is not, and I’m sure he’s thrilled to hear all this aired to strangers.

He also claimed that “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people,” and said his brain was too big for his head.

Most of the hour plus event was just an incoherent free form ramble, with onlookers trying to appease him saying “we love you.” No, they just enjoy the spectacle of a bi-polar man with lots of money and no one to say ‘no’ to him, raving like a lunatic. It’s embarrassing. And sad that his family can’t control this. I really wonder sometimes what Kim Kardashian’s endgame is.

EARLIER Kanye West is crazy like a fox.

He’s appearing at a “campaign event” this afternoon in South Carolina and wants to get on the ballot for the presidential election.

But he’s doing it because he’s dropping a new album called “Donda,” named for his mother, on July 24th.

He Tweeted and then deleted the tracklist of songs. He’s also Tweeted his drawings of the White House with the word “Vision.” But he’s a little near sighted as far as his political appeal, since he’s just a Trump supporter looking to cause trouble for the Democrats. It won’t work.

Will the album release be a success? Well, Kanye has turned to religious music over the last year. I’m sure his religious beliefs are deep. But by ditching his raps with large samples from other copyrighted works he’s saving a lot of money in licenses. Kanye’s previous albums were money losers because of all the people who had to be paid. He made a lot of obscure songwriters rich with sample licenses.

Will the album really drop on July 24th? Who knows? Kanye is famous for not keeping to release dates. If it’s not the 24th, he’ll wait til after Beyonce’s release on the 31st.

PS Kanye’s offering a new sneaker for $580 via Adidas. There must be a lot more disposable income out there than I realized. You can have 3 pairs of much better made New Balance 990s for that much money, with change for socks. (And yes, I totally boycott New Balance’s owner, but I wear the shoes.)

Here’s the tracklist for “Donda”:
