Original “Saturday Night Live” Star Laraine Newman Has a Cameo in “Hacks” Final Season, Starting April 9

0

The trailer is out for “Hacks,” season 5.

The HBO comedy, which has won a lot of awards, stars Jean Smart as Deborah Vance.

If you look at the trailer closely you’ll notice original “Saturday Night Live” Not for Prime Time player Laraine Newman has a cameo. That’s cause her offensive real life daughter, Hannah Einbeinder, is also in the show.

Einbeinder can’t stop herself from saying stupid things about Israel in public. When “Hacks” is over, that will be quite enough.

The “Hacks” legacy is giving Smart her due after 40 years of great work in everything from “Designing Women” to “Mare of Easttown.” But the series ran out of ideas in Season 4. Let’s hope the finale is much less abrasive.

Pop Buzz: K Pop Group BTS Stuffs iTunes Top 100 Singles with 16 Tracks from New Album Before Two Night Stint on Tonight Show

0

I’m sure you know teen K Pop group BTS is back.

They’ve got a new album out which is at the top of the iTunes chart.

The album has produced 16 — yes, 16 — spots on the iTunes top 100 including number, “Swim.”

This always happens with BTS. Their fans know how to game iTunes, and and do a good job it. The first week of each of their releases their songs clog the chart like plaque in an artery. Eventually this dissipates without a cardiac stent.

Oddly, the fans don’t seem very invested in Spotify, where BTS is less successful. “Swim” is only number 5 there.

The album is called “Arirang,” which means “next customer, please” in Korean.

The immensely popular boy band hits Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show for two nights next week. NBC says no standby line allowed in Rock Center, but check back to see these popsicles camping out any minute now.

Bruce Springsteen Will Sing at No Kings Rally in Minneapolis, Joined by Joan Baez, Bernie Sanders, Jane Fonda

0

Bruce Springsteen is coming to Minneapolis.

The Boss will perform at the No Kings Rally March 28th, singing the song he wrote for Renee Good and Alex Pretti — killed by ICE — called “Streets of Minneapolis.”

Bruce is a mensch. Then he thinks off his No Kings tour in the Twin City a few days later.

Springsteen will be joined by Joan Baez, Bernie Sanders, and Jane Fonda, among others.

“You want to try to meet the moment,” Bruce Springsteen told the Minnesota Star Tribune on Monday afternoon. “The No Kings movement is of great import right now.

“When you have the opportunity to sing something where the timing is essential and if you have something powerful to sing, it elevates the moment, it elevates your job to another level,” he said. “And I’m always in search of that.”

Baez, Sanders, and Fonda are no strangers to protest rallies, and the No Kings event should be incredibly impactful.

PS Bruce isn’t going to sing just one song. I’m sure he’ll give the audience “Land of Hope and Dreams” and maybe a feel good hit, as well.

How about Baez? I’m assuming “Amazing Grace” will come from that amazing voice.

Former CBS Star Journalist Scott MacFarlane Joining Left-Leaning Intrepid Meidas Touch Network (See Video Announcement)

0

The great CBS News correspondent stunned everyone a couple of weeks ago when he up and quit the network.

He didn’t care for the path Bari Weiss had put the news on, interfering with it to make Donald Trump look good.

MacFarlane won’t have to worry about that where he’s going. Very smart move to the Meidas Touch Network. The social media platform dogs Trump and the Republicans, reporting actual facts. They’ve grown very quickly. With MacFarlane breaking news, the combo will be unstoppable.

Exclusive: Superstar Celine Dion Working Toward Big Comeback Performance at the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day July 14th

0

This is exclusive.

Superstar singer Celine Dion is confirmed — based on her health — to perform at the Eiffel Tower on Bastille Day, July 14th.

Dion last sang an Edith Piaf song at the Eiffel Tower during the Paris Olympics in 2024. But this will be on a much larger scale.

Dion — who turns 58 on March 30th — is well known to have suffered for some time from Stiff Person Syndrome. But she’s made some personal appearances recently, and I’m told she’s ready to sing in Paris as long as her health continues to improve.

I’ve known this for some time, but now Canadian newspaper La Presse on Sunday speculated that the star is preparing to perform two concerts a week at the 40,000-capacity Paris La Défense Arena in September and October. I don’t know if that’s true.

Celine last performed in New York in the spring of 2020 as part of her Courage World Tour. But the tour was stopped short because of the the Covid-19 pandemic.

Even if she sings a few songs at the Eiffel Tour, that will be huge international news. It certainly would sell out those Paris dates. I’d be surprised if the beloved singer would go on a city-to-city tour, however. I would expect well spaced residencies in a few major cities. She could keep Madison Square Garden packed if she wanted to!

Barry Manilow Bounces Back from Cancer Treatment with First New Album of Original Material in 15 Years: He Wrote the Songs!

0

Barry Manilow is indefatigable.

For months the 82 year old has been recuperating from lung cancer surgery. At the same time, he’s had a bit of a hit single with “Once Before You Go,” which is getting played on Adult Contemporary radio. Babyface did the remix.

Now Barry has announced his first album in 15 years featuring new material.

“What a Time” is coming on June 5th, released by the famed singer and performer on his own label and distributed by The Orchard.

The first new single is called “Sun Shine,” and it’s typically upbeat Barry Manilow.

Also, after canceling and postponing shows this winter, Manilow will be back in action shortly. And now he’s got a lot of new material.

You can’t keep a good man down!

“60 Minutes” Diluted: No Political Segments Tonight Though We’re In an Undeclared War, Airports Have Gone Haywire, Prices Soar

0

“60 Minutes” is about twenty minutes in right now on the East Coast.

There are no political segments.

Nothing on Iran, gas prices, the TSA, or the chaos in airports.

The segments are about minerals, shipbuilding, and dogs curing dementia.

This is the “60 Minutes” of Bari Weiss.

While I’m sure these are wonderful reports, but nothing on America’s number 1 news show is addressing what’s happening urgently in this country.

Good night and good luck.

Here’s the rundown.

Gwyneth Paltrow — “the Original Nepo” Baby — and Six Time Tony Award Winner Audra McDonald Among MUSE Awards Honorees

0

With a nod to her mother — beloved actress Blythe Danner  — and evoking the spirit of her late father producer — Bruce Paltrow, Gwytheth Paltrow graced the stage at Cipriani 42nd street for this year’s New York Women in Film and Television Muse Awards.

Being the original “nepo baby” — her words — may have given her the platform to dive from, but taking her privilege to the next step was all Gwyneth. Yes, she epitomizes this year’s Muse theme of “Regeneration,” being a bona fide Oscar-winning movie star, and also a major business mogul with her company, Goop. Resilient enough, she’s revived her movie actress chops most recently in “Marty Supreme.”

It’s not that it wasn’t easy. But more, she reminded the audience of 700 rapt attendees chomping down Cipriani’s signature filet mignon and apple pie a la mode, as a young woman, her moves were under the radar, and frankly, that was liberating. Really? Friends, agents, family poo-pooed when she wanted to start her high-end beauty product line. Yes, really!

She never mentioned the quips about her owning Miramax when she won Best Actress for “Shakespeare in Love.” No talk of her critique of Harvey Weinstein’s behavior, her coining of the phrase “creative uncoupling” after her very public uncoupling with Coldplay’s Chris Martin –- hey, her son Moses was in the room, as was her now husband, Brad Falchuk. Shout outs abounded.

But if you really wanted to get into star power, another Muse stole the show. That would be the multi-Tony awarded Audra McDonald. Not only a mega-talent in theater—most recently as Mama Rose in “Gypsy” — she’s also stunning in television — in HBO’s series, “The Gilded Age.”

McDonald reminded everyone of the definition of “muse” to inspire and finished with mention of her nine-year old daughter -– with Tony nominated Will Swenson who was present — delaying bedtime while singing a girl-power hit from Tik Tok.

The Muse Awards lineup featured actress Jamie Brewer, director Patricia Cardosa, producer Jane Raab –-  and acknowledgement of “Sex and the City” producer Darren Star who was in the room. A new Muse award was inaugurated with a statue for WNBA athlete Izzy Harrison for Achievement in Sports and Media. Joy Reid, honored with the Enid Roth Award for Excellence in Journalism finished with “We represent the power to be loud.”

Listen to Ryan Gosling Seriously Explain His Love for Daytime Soaps, “Days of Our Lives” Especially

Attention “Days of our Lives.”

Oscar nominated actor Ryan Gosling, star of “Project Hail Mary,” is a fan.

Like, a massive one.

Watch this interview. It’s hilarious. Gosling expresses his love for the show, as well as his admiration for the actors who must memorize hundreds of pages a week.

If only “Days” had a regular shooting schedule, they could work Gosling into the story. But they’re about 10 months ahead. Also, I think the era he enjoyed is long over.

John Oliver also recently revealed his love of soaps. “General Hospital” is trying to find him a role.

PS Let’s not forget that new Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan came from “All My Children.” Oscar winners Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei are graduates of “As the World Turns.” So is Parker Posey.

Amaze! “Project Hail Mary” Blasts Off to $80 Mil, Breaks Ryan Gosling’s Space Curse, Lord and Miller’s Comeback

0

“Project Hail Mary” made a stunning $80 million on its opening weekend.

This means a lot on so many levels.

Star Ryan Gosling’s previous foray into space, Damien Chazelle’s “First Man,” did not live up to expectations. That was eight years ago.

Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller should be equally thrilled. They were yanked off 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and replaced with Ron Howard. The pair have produced a lot of projects since then but this is the first film they’ve directed since then.

MGM is ecstatic since this is the first movie of theirs to score much outside of James Bond.

Amazon, famous for shipping toasters, is just getting over the PR debacle of “Melania.” They squandered $75 mil on that baby.

More records: this is the biggest box office for a non-franchise, non-sequel original idea released in the month of March in an even numbered year.

Of course, “Project Hail Mary” is not a sequel but rather a cousin of “The Martian.” Both titles came from sci fi books written by Andy Weir and are similar in tone.

The other good news is that “PHM” is a really well made movie, lot of fun if not a bit too long. A lot of people may see it again just to understand a few of the elusive plot points.

As for that $80 mil: let’s hope it’s just the beginning. Amazon/MGM has spent gazillions on promotion and marketing. The $250 million budget means they’ll need $500 million to break even. Then “PHM” will come to Amazon Prime.
