Trump White House Cancels Secret National Medal of Arts Ceremony They’d Been Planning for Next Week

0

EXCLUSIVE

The Trump White House has cancelled the secret National Medal of Arts ceremony they’d been planning for March 20th.

I told you earlier this week that invitations had gone out for a Medal of Arts/Medal of Humanities ceremony at the White House planned for 2pm on that day.

But now it’s cancelled, presumably because of the virus panic. But it’s also possible that they simply couldn’t get anyone to agree to accept the medals. Trump has few supporters in the arts since he doesn’t support anything in the culture.

Some possibilities, ridiculous though they are, include Tom Selleck, Ted Nugent, Scott Baio, and that woman from the soap opera who ran for Congress and lost. I thought maybe Gary Sinise, a former Oscar nominee, and right wing activist, might be a good choice for him.

All awards from Trump are tainted. He’s given a few to financial backers. And of course Rush Limbaugh who, even as we speak, is on the radio blaming Barack Obama for the virus.

So, no awards next Friday. But here’s the invite just in case you missed it. And I used a photo of Trump with Omarosa because she’d be a great choice!

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson Send A Message from their Australian Quarantine: A Picture Says a Thousand Words

0

Tom Hanks and Rita have sent a picture of themselves from Australia. They look fine. The Corona Virus has not laid them out. There’s hope for all of us. They don’t even look like they’ve bought a lot of toilet paper, or bought out a Purell factory.

 Get better, kids!

Showbiz411.com Wants to Share a Word With You About the CoronaVirus and How We’re Taking Care of You

We don’t want to be out of the loop.

All day and some of yesterday I’ve been receiving email after email from every institution and organization I’ve ever encountered. They all want me to know what they’re doing for me during this time of crisis.

This means Macys, GoDaddy, Google, Bloomingdales, a tailor I haven’t seen in years, art galleries, Banana Republic, banks, even Tavern on the Green has something to say about all this. Everyone is wishing me good luck and assuring me they are on top of it. They can’t cure the virus or stop it from spreading. But they’re cleaning themselves, which is not reassuring. How dirty were they in the first place? What other diseases could I have picked up in their stores prior to this? The Broadway theaters are getting “deep cleans.” Yikes! What about last fall? Or ten years ago?

So I feel incumbent to tell you about what I’m doing here at Showbiz411.com to keep our stories free from the corona virus. Wait. I am doing absolutely nothing. Nada. I mean, I am using hand sanitizer from Bigelow’s. I still have my cough from last year, but I’m not being showy about it, like, this is a vintage cough. I don’t want to make people feel bad. I’m trying to wear more cashmere, if possible. But it’s been a warm winter and some of my sweaters never really got used.

Basically, there is nothing I can do. I am actually looking for large gatherings where celebrities or people of interest will show up. I am thinking of having a party for 499 people. You can only come if you’re famous and feeling a little light headed. We will not test for any virus. But you’ll get a good item out of it. All I can really promise is to stay out of Corona, Queens, at least until it gets warmer and we visit the Ice King of Corona. Then all bets are off.

Disney Cancels “Mulan,” “Antlers,” and “The New Mutants,” Finally Joining Other Studios in Putting Off New Releases

0

It’s Mulan Rouge for now as Disney has pulled their three new releases, “Mulan,” “Antlers,” and “The New Mutants.” Disney was the last studio to fall, but this was expected.

Here it is:

“As you know this has been a rapidly evolving situation and [we] wanted to make you aware that we are postponing the releases of Mulan, The New Mutants, and Antlers out of an abundance of caution. The screening on 3/19 of MULAN has been cancelled and we will re-schedule once we have a new release date.

We truly believe in the moviegoing experience, and look forward to having you at MULAN when the screening is re-scheduled. We will be in touch with a new date, once it is announced.”

Tribeca Film Festival Postponed, No Date Given for Future as City Declares State of Emergency

0

James Murdoch, it’s bad karma.

For the first year of Murdoch ownership, the Tribeca Film Festival has been cancelled. No date has been given for a future festival, but my guess is, that’s it. They can’t get the same movies in the fall.

What a shame for all the filmmakers involved who counted on having their work seen. Same for South by Southwest. All that’s left for now is Cannes. Will the French go through with it? It’s hard to believe considering much of that country is shut down.

What’s left? The White House Correspondents Dinner. I’m waiting for that notice.

Here’s the statement:

We founded the Tribeca Film Festival as a way to heal our community after the devastation of the 9/11 attacks in 2001. We were determined to overcome our fear and anxiety by joining together. It is in our DNA to march forward while caring about our community

We have made the difficult decision to postpone the 19th Tribeca Film Festival (April 15-26) based on the announcement by Gov. Andrew Cuomo that events of 500 people or more are banned due to the spread of the novel coronavirus. We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of the public while also supporting our friends, filmmakers and storytellers who look to Tribeca as a platform to showcase their work to audiences. We will be back to you shortly with our plans.

Please check www.tribecafilm.com for the latest updates, ticket refund information and details about how we are moving forward.

FIlm Society of Lincoln Center Cancels Chaplin Awards Honoring Spike Lee, and New Directors/New Films Festival

0

Poor Spike Lee. Just as I predicted, Lincoln Center’s Film Society has postponed the Chaplin Awards til the fall. Really, September will be the busiest month in history.

The Film Society has also cancelled their New Directors/New Films program. This might be a good time anyway for a cleaning and refurbishing of the Walter Reade Theater. It’s like a Petri dish in there.

My guess now is they’ll make the Chaplin Awards part of the New York Film Festival at the end of September. It makes more sense anyway.

Now Spike can only wait and see if the Cannes Film Festival is cancelled. He’s the head of the jury this year. Oy vey.

Is OJ Simpson Even Human? Held Responsible for 2 Deaths, Former Felon Posts Joke Tweet About Bronco Chase

0

Is OJ Simpson even a human being?

Held responsible by a civil jury for the deaths of two people, whose murders he stood trial for, Simpson has posted a joke about the coronavirus and his famous Bronco chase to Twitter. What kind of person is this? A person who murders his ex wife and her friend in cold blood? And then writes about in a confessional after he’s acquitted? Yes, he’s that person. His existence is infuriating. He should be in jail for the rest of his life.

More Cancellations: Carly Simon All Star Tribute Charity Show at Carnegie Hall for Underserved Students Postponed til Fall

0

The Carly Simon show set for March 19th will be rescheduled for fall. Michael Dorf of City Winery writes:

Due to the Coronavirus spread, Carnegie Hall has prudently cancelled all shows for the rest of March.  We are working to reschedule the Music of Carly Simon for sometime this Fall.  Not only Carly herself, but many of the artists are first disappointed, but also very encouraged to settle on the new date and have this special tribute.

Meanwhile, this being a fundraiser supporting non-profit organizations all providing critical funds for underserved youth, we hope you all can help by either: A) simply transferring your tickets to the new date when that becomes clear and/or B) consider donating one, two or a portion of your tickets to the cause.  We divide up the net proceeds of this event between the following organizations:  Little Kids Rock, Grammy in the Schools, Young Audiences, Church Street, The Orchestra Now, Center for Arts Education, D’Addario Foundation, Sonic Arts for All, VHI Save the Music, and Jazz House Kids.

We very much hope you will not request a full refund at this time, but either come to our future date, and/or consider donating one or all of your tickets to these important organizations.  However, if you must have a refund, please send us a note at……….Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time. We will get thru this

More Cancellations: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Ceremony in Cleveland is Scrapped, Whitney Houston’s Hologram Will Have to Go Elsewhere

0

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has cancelled its induction ceremony in Cleveland set for May 2nd.

This means that Whitney Houston’s hologram or ghost or whatever will be out of a job.

Other inductees include T. Rex– Marc Bolan is dead anyway. Plus Nine Inch Nails, The Doobie Brothers, Depeche Mode, Notorious BIG is also off the hook.

The Dave Matthews Band and Pat Benatar, who were snubbed even though they got the most votes in the online voting, won’t have to worry about it.

No date was announced for a re-schedule.

Broadway Closing Until April 13th Throws Tony Award Season Into Jeopardy with Some Shows Finished

0

The 2020 Tony Award season is now in jeopardy of being cancelled. There will be no performances until April 13th.

Tonight’s premiere of the British hit, “Six,” is cancelled. Sunday’s opening “The Minutes” is not only over, but the show will likely fold completely. UPDATE: I’m told “The Minutes” will indeed open right after the ban lifts.

Coming in are a dozen new shows for the Tonys including the acclaimed new version of “Company” and Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker in “Plaza Suite.”

Older shows like “Phantom of the Opera” and “Book of Mormon” may not survive the hiatus.

And it’s not just the shows. There are the actors, crews, etc all of a sudden out of work and out of pocket.

Even more concerning will be the businesses around the theater district, from the restaurants to the pizza places, diners, and small shops. Of course, the hotels will suffer as well.

More announcements are coming.

But the biggest problem will be the Tony Awards themselves. Without new shows, the June 7th broadcast on CBS could be cancelled. I hope they will re-think it, and present a show of great Broadway performances anyway.
