“Hacks” Co-Star Announces End of Series, Wins Emmy Award, Makes Ridiculous Speech, Doesn’t Thank Famous Mother for Nepo Celebrity

0

Lady Gaga coined the term “Fame monster.” This was deeper and more encompassing than we could have guessed.

Case in point: Hannah Einbeinder. You do not know her name unless you watch HBO Max’s formerly funny series, “Hacks.”

Jean Smart — who we know and love for years — is the star, a comic named Deborah Vance who now has a fictional late night talk show.

Einbeinber plays Hannah, the whippersnapper writer Deborah hires, who’s gone from spunky to offensive in four seasons. Looking like a Raggedy Ann doll, Hannah’s story arc has taken her from sympathetic to annoying very quickly.

We never heard of Einbeinder before “Hacks.” It turns out she’s the real life daughter of the beloved Laraine Newman, original cast member of “Saturday Night Live.”

Einbeinder arrived on the Emmys red carpet yesterday and dropped the news that “Hacks” is filming its last season. I hope HBO knew she was going to do that. Smart, too. Did she know?

From there, Einbeinder went on to win her first Emmy, which should have been for seasons 1 or 2? In the just aired season, she was like chalk on a blackboard.

Her acceptance speech? “Fuck ICE! Free Palestine!” After that I’d rather not see a season 5 of “Hacks.” Enough already. Einbeinder went on to dig a deeper hole with the press backstage. She said: “I feel like it is my obligation as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the State of Israel, because our religion and our culture is such an important and long standing institution that is really separate to this sort of ethno-nationalist state.”

I wish that Laraine Newman had raised a more sensible child, one who realizes that as a Jewish person she should be defending the Israeli people and their arts and culture.

It’s great to denounce Benjamin Netanyahu, who, frankly, should be in jail. But Einbeinder said not a word about the hostages who remain in tunnels after two years, or the ones who were raped or killed. They are not important to her. She thinks she’s somehow above them, they don’t matter.

That’s the fame monster talking.

PS Einbeinder didn’t even thank Newman, her mother, for giving her a nepo life in Los Angeles among the rich and famous. Nice!

Chris Pratt, Televangelist: Seen Praying to Followers on Social Media Video as Career Turns Away from Movies to…?

0

Is Chris Pratt transitioning?

The “Guardians of the Galaxy” star has posted a video of himself looking into the camera and praying, reciting the New Testament.

He’s also squinting like Clint Eastwood for some reason.

Pratt had his movie run with “Guardians” and “Jurassic Park.” Now he’s headed to streaming TV where his talents will no doubt find a receptive home.

Praying on X/Twitter? Preaching about turning off phones and going outside? Even Justin Bieber hasn’t done this yet. Pratt is either angling to become a televangelist, Republican candidate in California, or a job with Mel Gibson.

God help us.

Jeremy Allen White Preps Kitchen for Leaving “The Bear,” Skips Emmys, New “Springsteen Deliver Me From Nowhere” Trailer Drops

0

The Bear has been chased out of the kitchen, onto the porch, and off into the woods.

Last night’s Emmy Awards proved that the very popular watercooler show, “The Bear,” is ready to go out paws up.

Last year, “The Bear” won more Emmy Awards than any other show. But that was in September. As the year went along, to the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globes, “The Bear” showed signs of wear and tear.

At last night’s Emmy Awards, “The Bear” won zip. Nothing. Season four was considered not very good, and ended with the main character, Carmie, leaving his restaurant and town for no real reason.

Star Jeremy Allen White actually skipped the Emmys, they say, to go to a friend’s wedding. That was a big “FU” to TV and the Emmys, and a sign that he’s done preparing small bits of food for great amounts of money.

He couldn’t just send a gift?

At the same time, White’s new movie, “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” dropped a new trailer. If White is reliably good as the Boss, and the movie is a hit, White will be gone from TV faster than a restaurant inspector on the take.

White, you see, is born to run from the genre that made him an overnight sensation. He’s seeking glory days on a bigger screen. Is that so reasonable? It’s hard to be a saint in the city.

After “Deliver Me,” White puts the spatula down to make “The Social Network 2,” in which he plays a reporter investigating Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. Really.

Something tells me Season 5 will be final, The Bear will get padlocked for not paying taxes, and the staff will wind up at Chipotle.

Here’s the new “Deliver Me” trailer.

Emmy Awards: HBO Comes Through With Drama Wins for “The Pitt,” AppleTV Scores Big with “The Studio” Breaking Comedy Record

0

HBO came through at the end of the 2025 Emmy Awards.

The cable studio won Best Drama and Best Actor in a Drama, as well as Supporting Actress for “The Pitt.”

Meantime, AppleTV scored big time with the most wins ever for a comedy show with “The Studio.” They also posted wins for “Severance.”

“The Studio” won 13 Emmys, breaking the all-time record for most wins for a comedy series. In addition to already breaking the freshman comedy series record, Rogen ties the record for most Emmys won by a single individual in one night, joining Moira Demos (2016), Amy Sherman-Palladino (2018) and Dan Levy (2020).

AppleTV was determined to win a lot of Emmys, spent a lot of money, and pulled off a coup.

All the shows that won awards are on cable or streaming. In the case of Apple, no one knows how many people have actually watched them since the streamer doesn’t release numbers.

How did the Emmys fare in the ratings? We’ll know later on tomorrow.

Stephen Colbert Wins Best Talk Show Emmy After Being Fired by CBS Gets Second Standing Ovation of the Night: “I love my country!”

0

Stephen Colbert won Best Talk Show tonight at the Emmy Awards.

He got his second standing ovation of the night.

The award was sweet consolation after having CBS cancel his show — ending next May — saying it was too expensive.

Many feel the cancellation came because Donald Trump wanted the show gone, and pressured the new owner of CBS, David Ellison, to get rid of Colbert.

Ironically, the Emmys are on CBS.

Colbert could have been snarky in his acceptance speech but was incredibly gracious. He exclaimed, “I love my country more than ever!”

Bizarre Emmy Awards Snub Movie Stars Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, Plus Angela Bassett Wins Mensch of the Year

0

The Emmy Awards are still on but it’s time to account for this mess.

The show seems completely out of control. Maybe the TelePrompters aren’t working. Many actors seem to be ad-libbing and dropping F bombs.

The great Angela Bassett is the mensch of the year. She’s a movie star, she stars in “911,” wasn’t nominated and yet presented Best Actress in a Drama Series. She’s a saint.

So far the Emmys have snubbed two major movie stars, Harrison Ford and Cate Blanchett. Ford came with wife Calista Flockhart, and left as soon he lost Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy for “Shrinking.”

“Shrinking” has not done well, but two Apple series — “Severance” and “The Studio” — have won a raft of awards. Apple TV has gotten what they paid for.

During the red carpet, Hannah Einbeinder revealed that HBO’s “Hacks” is filming its final season. That’s good news. “Hacks” was genius but after two seasons went stale. Time to wrap it up.

Einbeinder won her Emmy and didn’t thank her own mother, Laraine Newman, of the original “SNL” cast. Einbeinder felt it necessary to drop an F bomb and shout “Free Palestine!” She’s Jewish, and is so naive she needs to be dropped in Gaza for an afternoon. Let’s see if she comes back. She is really offensive. (And yes, I hate Netanyahu and disagree with everything he’s doing to Gaza.) Hannah, where are the hostages?

Many ironies: no acting wins for “The White Lotus,” despite incredible performances by everyone involved including Parker Posey, Carrie Coon, and Sam Rockwell.

This year’s Emmys are also a pageant of Ozempic, bad plastic surgery, and terrible outfits. Host Nate Bergatze joked in his monologue that the Emmys are “okay” and not the Oscars. More than any year I can remember, this is true.

Bergatze has looked startled all night, especially by the ongoing bit about raising money for Boys and Girls Clubs of America. This is one of the worst ideas I’ve ever seen on an awards show.

More to come…

New Pop Star Sombr Is a Streaming Machine With Millions of “Records” Sold, More Even That Justin Bieber’s Latest

0

Sombr, aka Shane Boose, is a streaming machine.

He’s had two big hits all year — “Back to Friends” and “Undressed.” They’ve never been big on iTunes, but man, they are all over Spotify and other platforms.

Sombr released an album recently that was slow to take off on iTunes. It’s called “I Barely Knew Her,” and at first his fans weren’t buying it.

But now “I Barely Knew Her” is in the top 10, probably after the MTV Video Music Awards brought him to a bigger audience.

The album has already sold more than Justin Bieber’s latest — over 500,000 equivalent copies.

Meantime, both of the singles — also sticking in the top 10 — have sold about 1.5 million streaming equivalent copies.

Sombr is a hit. At 20 years old, the native New Yorker is the son of two media folks (dad Andy Boose arranges events for amFAR and Elton John’s AIDS Foundation, mother is amFAR PR flack). He’s a 7ft string bean with a massive social media following, and that’s paid off. Not to mention the singles are very catchy.

Is a Grammy nomination coming for Best New Artist? Probably. Hold on.

Alicia Keys Coming to the Rescue of Her Ailing “Hell’s Kitchen” Broadway Musical: Will Perform On Stage After Two Shows Soon

0

Alicia Keys is standing her ground.

She’s going to perform live on stage for anyone who buys a ticket to her “Hell’s Kitchen” musical after the show is over on September 26th and 27th.

The show, which I raved about, is seeing alarming declines at the box office after a successful 18 month run.

Last week, “Hell’s Kitchen” receipts fell to $624,147 — down $250,000 from the previous week.

The musical, about Keys’s life, is suffering just like all other Broadway shows because tourism is way down thanks to Donald Trump and ICE.

Canadians aren’t coming to the States as retribution for Trump suggesting they become part of the US. Foreigners aren’t coming for fear of being hassled, kidnapped, or arrested. Brown or Black people especially would be worried about being targeted.

And did you know Tony winner Kecia Lewis is still there? And now joining the cast is Christopher Jackson aka George Washington from “Hamilton”? These are superstars!

But look, Alicia Keys on stage playing that piano is worth gold bullion. And even when she’s not there, we must support Broadway. “Hell’s Kitchen” is a helluva show. Get over there now!

PS All of Broadway was severely off last week, by $5 million, as kids went back to school, vacations were over. There were 8,000 fewer tickets sold than the same week last year.

There is no fear in theatre district! Support Broadway!

RIP Bobby Hart, Half of the Team with Tommy Boyce That Wrote the Monkees Hits, “Days of our Lives” Theme, “Hurts So Bad,” and More

0

Micky Dolenz of the Monkees posted his goodbye yesterday to songwriter Bobby Hart age 86.

Hart and his late partner Tommy Boyce (who died in 1994) wrote the original Monkees hits including “Hey Hey We’re the Monkees,” “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m Not Your Steppin’ Stone,” and “Valeri.”

Boyce and Hart’s theme for the soap “Days of our Lives,” which began in 1965, can still be heard on the Peacock soap. (Not over the end credits, though, when something awful is heard.)

The pair had their own big million selling hit in 1968 called “I Wonder What She’s Doing Tonite.” They also wrote Little Anthony and the Imperials’ “Hurt So Bad” (also a hit for Linda Ronstadt), and “Pretty Little Angel Eyes,” for Curtis Lee.

Boyce and Hart, despite their massive hits, have never been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They even appeared on “Bewitched” and “I Dream of Jeannie” back in the day. That’s how famous they were! So many times their names came up in nominating meetings, but Mariah Carey and Madonna came first.

Kennedy Center Plans Memorial Service Tonight for Charlie Kirk Featuring MAGA All Stars, Trump and Vance Still Unconfirmed

0

The Kennedy Center continues its move to the right and into politics.

The new chiefs there are holding a memorial service tonight for Charlie Kirk.

Lots of MAGA All-Stars are set to appear including the most vile, including: Speaker Mike Johnson, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Senior Advisor for U.S. AGM Kari Lake, Reps. Andy Biggs, Anna Paulina Luna, and Eli Crane, and Arizona state Sen. Jake Hoffman.

No word on Trump or Vance, although I’m sure one if not both will attend because it’s a great photo op.

Kirk was not elected to any office. There was no memorial service for Minnesota State Representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. They were gunned down just a short time ago in act of political violence.

Kirk’s only tie to Washington was as an advocate for conservative beliefs that would have horrified the late President John F. Kennedy.

JFK would have empathized with Kirk because they were each assassinated, which is unacceptable for anyone of every party.

But Kirk’s beliefs are the antithesis of what reasonable people believe in. He was a supporter of gun violence, racism, and misogyny.

This is the new Kennedy Center, however. They just fired the head of the jazz department after letting go the chief of the dance department in a continuing effort to minimize the arts and scare off actual artists who usually appear at the Center.

As for Trump: A few hours after Kirk was murdered, a grieving Trump could be seen at Yankee Stadium dancing a jig in his seat, smiling like a jackal. When asked earlier at the White House how he was holding up after Kirk’s death, Trump proceeded to point out construction on the unnecessary $200 million ballroom being built on the property.
