Scooped Here First: Trump Plans Mega MAGA Rally at Madison Square Garden Bringing Back Memories of 1939

0

I told you three days ago that Donald Trump was planning a mega MAGA rally in New York soon.

Now, of course, comes news that the venue will be Madison Square Garden on October 27th.

This would be reminiscent of the 1939 Nazi rally at the old Garden. No one really understood the impact then, and Mayor Fiorella La Guardia let it go on because he supported free speech.

This rally is free, and will be first come, first served. The Garden can hold about 19,000 people. Watch Craigslist and other sites for opportunities to be paid to be in the audience.

The NYPD can’t be happy about dealing with thousands of redneck rightwingers showing up at the Garden. Trump did nothing for them when he had a foundation. They were at the bottom of the barrel.

Lisa Marie Presley’s Candid Book Includes Much About Michael Jackson, Scientology, and Priscilla

0

Lisa Marie Presley is speaking from the grave.

Her daughter, Riley Keough, has just published her posthumous memoir taken from recordings Riley made with her mom. They shed an extraordinary light on long unanswerd questions.

Michael Jackson fans will now get Lisa Marie’s side of their odd marriage in the mid 90s. It’s actually unclear if it was ever consummated. Michael told Lisa Marie he’d wanted to get married to have children. If she wouldn’t do it, he said, he’d already secured a promise of kids with Debbie Rowe, his doctor’s nurse.

Keough says she and her brother Ben would call Michael “Mimi” because Ben couldn’t say his name (he was a baby). Lisa Marie says in the book that she loved Michael because he was “normal,” but you have to remember she was the daughter of Elvis Presley and had been in Graceland as a child when he did. Lisa Marie’s idea of normal is a little skewed.

Keough says, “I think Michael got right at my mom’s core. She wanted to fix him, and she felt he was misunderstood, a feeling she was very familiar with.”

Lisa Marie writes in the book:

“As for child molestation, I never saw a goddamn thing like that. I personally would’ve killed him if I had.”

Eventually this peculiar relationship came to a quick end. The reason? Drugs. Michael started spending a lot of time at the doctor’s office — this would have been Arnold Klein, Michael’s Dr. Feelgood and Debbie Rowe’s boss. In New York, Lisa Marie reveals, Michael ditched filming an HBO special at the last minute.

Lisa Marie says: “I think he didn’t want to do it, so he feigned a fall and went to the hospital. I kept asking what was wrong with him, and I got a different answer every day. Karen, his makeup artist, told me that he’d totally planned it because he didn’t want to do the HBO thing.”

When Lisa Marie arrived at Michael’s hospital room in New York, she found he was surrounded by by his mother, his team, and his own anesthesiologist. She says: “Nobody has their own anesthesiologist—every hospital has their own. It was a big red flag.”

The marriage was over soon after that.

Some other hot takes from “From Here to the Great Unknown”: Lisa Marie hated her mother, Priscilla, who she felt was constantly fobbing her off on various schools. She says they got into Scientology after Priscilla had a chance meeting with John Travolta. When Priscilla sent Lisa Marie to live at the Scientology Center in Hollywood, she immediately took the mirror off the wall and did coke.

Lisa Marie recalls Priscilla “had mostly just dumped me off into Scientology because she thought they could handle me. Scientology kind of raised me for her. But every time she’d try to get me into a boarding school, I’d fuck with the admission test and they wouldn’t take me.”

There’s no explanation why, but Lisa Marie does say in the recordings that she left Scientology as time went on. I wrote a lot about that at the time. She finally realized they were soaking her for money, which she couldn’t afford.

There’s more in the book, it’s actually a fascinating read in that it does answer some questions about what was going on all those years. Lisa Marie’s death is a tragedy. It seems like she knew it, too. Bravo to Riley for publishing the book. It’s courageous.

Finneas (Billie Eilish) Quietly Releases an Album of Bitter Songs About Relationships Gone Wrong

0

Finneas O’Connell is the composer-producer brother of Billie Eilish. The siblings have had an extraordinary run of hits — two Oscars! — working together with Billie as the voice of their collaboration

On Friday, Finneas released his own album very quietly. It’s called “For Cryin’ Out Loud” and is on the iTunes charts at around number 50. No one knew it was released, including yours truly.

So what is Finneas’s new album like? It’s surprisingly bitter. The lead track is called “Starfucker.” Apparently, Finneas has had problems in the romance department. Surprise! He’s had dates who don’t really care about him. He’s not shy about it, either. He’s angry.

You starfucker, I loved you,” he writes, a little on the nose. “Against my better judgement/
In the evening, when you’re leaving/ Your promises have lost their meaning/I was yours before you wеre cool

You think as the song progresses there’s got to be a punch line. But Finneas — who can write a catchy melody off the top of his head — is not a subtle lyricist. Metaphor and imagery are not his strong suits. If he doesn’t like you, he’s going to say it. Witty is not included.

The 2nd track keeps up with this theme. “What’s It Going to Take to Break Your Heart?” continues the theme. He’s not happy with this woman. When he asks, “Do you think I’ll even leave a mark?” we get what he’s made for.

I was a little surprised about “For Cryin’ Out Loud.” I guess this is the way Finneas works out his own art in between stoking Billie’s star making machine. I just wish he was enjoying the ride more.

Auction Notice Posted for Alex Jones’s InfoWars To Begin Paying $1.5 Bil Sandy Hook Judgement

0

An auction notice has been posted in the Wall Street Journal that should make a lot of people happy.

Alex Jones, of InfoWars fame, will see his whole empire of hate go up in smoke soon. Everything is being sold to satisfy at least part of the $1.5 billion judgement he received for terrorizing the families of the Sandy Hook children and teachers who were murdered.

Jones repeatedly said on InfoWars that the tragic massacre was faked, and that the people involved were “crisis actors.”

But the party is over. The notice for the sealed bid auction has a deadline of November 8th at 2pm central time. Everything is for sale including the archives, and all the websites.

What is Info Wars actually worth? Who would want the archival library of sewage. The whole thing should be deleted in full and destroyed, never to see the light of day again.

As for the websites, url’s, and social media accounts, it’s hard to imagine a bidder reinventing them as something good for society. They should also all be shut down and scrubbed from the internet forever and ever.

Melania Trump Book Getting Low Marks from Readers for Shoddy Production, Scratched Covers

0

Melania Trump’s book “Melania” has fallen to number 20 from 11 on Amazon.com on its first day of publication.

Is it selling? Only 26 people have filed verified reviews and about half of them are negative. They call the book “contrived” and lacking much content.

But even worse, the production of the book from Skyhorse Publishing is getting low marks.

One reviewer wrote: “Book is great… who ever handled the book sent one that is scratch and has a sticky substance on the cover.”

Another said: “Damage to book jacket front and back and just looked at these pages that were messed up on inside of book. Waiting for replacement. Thanks”

Shoddy production on a Trump product? Are we surprised? Think of all the cheap companies Donald and Melania have fobbed off on the public. It’s not like “Melania” is a hard book to print properly. And no, these things don’t happen often in the book business. These are rare complaints.

Justin Timberlake Cancels His Big NJ Show Tonight Because of Injury, Latest Pop Star with Ailments

0

Justin Timberlake has just cancelled his show for tonight in Newark, NJ.

His tour brought him to the Prudential Center. But with two hours to go, JT says he has an “injury” and can’t make it.

He’s not the first pop act to cancel shows lately. New singer Gracie Abrams cancelled the third of three shows at Radio City Music Hall a few days ago because of a vocal problem. Her whole family including director dad JJ Abrams had flown in for the show.

In Europe, Chrissie Hynde has cancelled a bunch of Pretenders shows over the last couple of weeks.

As for Timberlake, his next date is October 11th in Philly. He should be better by then.

PS The concerts are important revenue for the acts since no one is selling records. Timberlake’s “Everything I Thought It Was” was a huge disappointment with just 265,000 copies sold including streaming.

Watch: Timothee Chalamet Sings Bob Dylan in Trailer for James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown”

Timothee Chalamet sings Bob Dylan, playing him in James Mangold’s “A Complete Unknown.”

Elle Fanning co-stars. The trailer looks great which is no surprise considering Mangold is working in his best area. He made the Johnny Cash movie “Walk the Line” a total hit.

Is Timmy headed to awards gold? Sure looks like it.

Melania’s Book Arrives, Pre- Orders Send it to Number 9, Behind Kamala Harris Book — Kindle Version at Number 506

0

“Melania” is here.

Melania Trump’s memoir, which should be called a Great Work of Fiction, hit amazon this morning at number 9. That’s after all the pre-orders it’s still behind a book praising Kamala Harris called “The Achievements of Kamala Harris” by Jason Dudash.

It’s the same at BarnesandNoble.com.

On Kindle, it’s the 506th most downloaded book.

“Melania” is called a “Whitewash” by the New York Times. It addresses absolutely nothing that’s happened to her or to Trump in the 9 years since they foisted themselves upon us. It’s vapid drivel, written for a third grade mind. (There’s no mention of a ghostwriter, and no acknowledgements to anyone including her publisher.)

If there’s one sticking point for Melania, it’s about Rosie O’Donnell’s assertion 8 years ago that her son, Barron, is autistic. Melania writes: “Barron is not autistic” but gives no other insight into her son — despite 87 mentions of his name throughout the book. He’s like a piece of furniture she’s been lugging around.

Did we expect her to mention Stormy Daniels or E. Jean Carroll? No. Can she explain where she was during Trump’s felony conviction trial? Or during this campaign? Not really.

Is “Melania” a waste of 20 bucks? Absolutely, considering Republicans are screaming about inflation and high prices at the grocery store. Six months from now there will be a flood of these books as remainders unsold. Once it’s down to $1.99, then you can use it in a stack under your laptop for Zoom calls.

Box Office: “Joker 2” Implodes with Smaller Numbers Than Reported, Only $37.8 Mil Opening

0

Yesterday, Warner Bros. guesstimated a $40 million opening for “Joker Folie a Deux.” It turns out they were overly optimistic.

As it turns out, “Joker” came in at just $37.8 million. That is a disaster worse than what was expected.

The Todd Phillips’ directed sequel to his 2019 hit just went wrong in every way. Rather than leave well enough alone, the producers and director made a movie no one wanted to see. And they didn’t.

The only bright spot is that Lady Gaga has a hit album, “Harlequin,” currently lodged at number 14 on iTunes. It would be doing better but so far there’s no CD or LP. Still, it should get Grammy nominations and maybe an Oscar nomination for one of its two original songs.

Daniel Craig Makes His Bid for an Oscar as “Queer” Premieres at New York Film Festival

0

Daniel Craig is on a campaign to build a post James Bond career. He’s already appeared in a couple of Broadway plays. He’s become the star of the “Knives Out” franchise.

Now Craig takes on his most daring role with Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer,” based on the novel by famed Beat writer William S. Burroughs. Last night “Queer” got its star studded premiere at the New York Film Festival, where Craig was so applauded an Oscar nomination is not out of the question. The audience included Steve Buscemi — who once wanted to make this movie himself — and Natasha Lyonne.

The packed audience at the Alice Tully Hall premiere twent wild as the creative team took the stage for the post-screening Q&A. And it is not only because the movie stars Craig. Guadagnino explained how as a boy in Palermo, he picked up the Burroughs work and always wanted to make this film. While working on “Challengers”  from screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes’ script, he gifted him the book one day and said “Read this tonight.”

The text of “Queer” — unlike say, Burroughs’ most famous book, “Naked Lunch,” — has a linear thread so a narrative could be made of the love story between Craig’s William Lee and a younger Eugene Allerton (a formidable Drew Starkey). Yes, there’s plenty of man-on-man sex –minus the testosterone. How else can you explain the tenderness? Prowling Mexico City looking for a connection, Lee has a tryst or two, essential to the vision of what homosexuality meant in the mid-century—achy, twitchy, awkward, and alone, Craig plays Lee’s vulnerability.

Of course, there are drugs involved. Costume designer J. W. Anderson spoke of dressing Lee in cool whites when the substance of choice was cocaine to the colors for heroin use. A funny moment comes when a doctor asks the sick Lee, Are you addicted to opiates? Cut into chapters, “Queer” proceeds to South America as Lee looks to explore “telepathy;” Lee invites Allerton to travel with him in search of yage, a hallucinogenic drug. The jungle scenes feature an unrecognizable Lesley Manville as shaman—the one significant woman in this movie, a transformation from the male Dr. Cotter of the book.

Another significant change: insisting that “Queer” did not have an ending, Guadagnino and Kuritzkes supply one, bringing closure to their plot. As Guadagnino put it, the novel opens a door and then closes it. Guadagnino proposed, “What if we went through that door?”

The ending satisfies, but for the Beat community that made its way to the Chelsea Hotel for the after party, there was plenty to parse. Poet Anne Waldman, from Allen Ginsberg’s estate, Peter Hale, from Jack Kerouac’s estate Jim Sampas.  Luca Guadadgnino was just happy that his film passed muster with the Beat crowd, and captured the book’s spirit.
