Prince Returns September 30th with 2 Albums of New Tasty Funk

0

Prince is back! Well, he never left. But on September 30th he’ll release 2 new albums especially 4 U. “Art Official Age” is described as a classic Prince album. “Plectrumelectrum” is with his group 3rd Eye Girl. They’ll each be on Warner Bros Records, which he once declared was holding him hostage. Then he made a nice new deal with them earlier this year and everyone’s happy again. PS September 30th is the Grammy deadline. Maybe that will mean something…

A lot of these tracks are floating around the internet already. Here’s “Funknroll” from the Arsenio Hall show:

The track-listings for ‘ART OFFICIAL AGE and ‘PLECTRUMELECTRUM’ are as follows:

Emmy Awards: Just Like Last Year, “Breaking Bad” and “Modern Family” Win

So glad I was away for the Emmy Awards. The same shows, the same people, etcetera, etcetera. “Modern Family” was Best Comedy over “Veep.” Ridiculous. “Breaking Bad,” now off the air, won Best Drama over “Mad Men” and a bunch of good shows that weren’t even nominated. Oy vey.

Actors: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Allison Janney, the guy from The Big Bang Theory, the other guy from Modern Family. Bryan Cranston won Best Actor for Breaking Bad, and Aaron Paul was Supporting Actor.

Bryan Cranston will now be nominated for the Nobel Prize (he also won Best Actor at the Tony Awards this year). His best work, as dentist Dr. Tim Watley, on “Seinfeld,” remains under appreciated.

Aside from Seth Meyers and the Robin Williams tribute, no one can be criticized for thinking they’d seen last night’s Emmy Awards before. Once a show resonates in the ratings and with Emmy committees, it’s in for life. But woe to those that are passing fancies, like “Mad Men,” “Homeland” and “House of Cards.” When the committees turn cold, there’s no looking back.

I hereby bestow awards on the gang from “Mad Men,” who will end their official run at this time next year with whatever they’ve already received. Jon Hamm at least had nominations. John Slattery was totally screwed over and over. But that’s the way the Emmy cookie crumbles.

PS Congrats to Julianna Margulies.

Watch Beyonce and Jay Z End Summer with a 16 Minute Commercial, Not a Divorce

0

It was all a hoax. Congrats to the publicists, and to the NY Post for going along with it. As i said many times, the Beyonce-Jay Z “divorce” rumor was cooked up for concert ticket sales and it worked like a charm. Last night the couple ended the summer with a 16 minute commercial on MTV followed by hugs, tears, and kisses. Maybe they were a decoy for Mariah and Nick. But the Carters aren’t splitting, never were. Solange gets back in the elevator. It’s all good. What a fool believes…

Gandhi Director Sir Richard Attenborough Dies at Age 90– Won 2 Oscars

3

Oscar winning director Sir Richard Attenborough, whose movies included the much awarded “Gandhi” and “The Sand Pebbles,” has died at age 90.

Known to his friends as “Dickie,” Sir Richard also directed “Chaplin” with Robert Downey Jr., the movie version of “A Chorus Line,” and the 1977 classic “A Bridge Too Far.” He won kudos also for “Shadowlands” with Anthony Hopkins and “Cry Freedom,” with Denzel Washington and Kevin Kline.

Attenborough started as an actor, and was prolific. He appeared in dozens of films and British TV series, including “Jurassic Park,” plus the feature “Dr. Dolittle” and the Cate Blanchett “Elizabeth.”

Hollywood Stars Sign Petition for Israel, from Schwarzenegger to Stallone and More

Here’s the list signed far by the Creative Community for Peace.
We, the undersigned, are saddened by the devastating loss of life endured by Israelis and Palestinians in Gaza. We are pained by the suffering on both sides of the conflict and hope for a solution that brings peace to the region.

While we stand firm in our commitment to peace and justice, we must also stand firm against ideologies of hatred and genocide which are reflected in Hamas’ charter, Article 7 of which reads, “There is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!” The son of a Hamas founder has also commented about the true nature of Hamas.

Hamas cannot be allowed to rain rockets on Israeli cities, nor can it be allowed to hold its own people hostage. Hospitals are for healing, not for hiding weapons. Schools are for learning, not for launching missiles. Children are our hope, not our human shields.

We join together in support of the democratic values we all cherish and in the hope that the healing and transformative power of the arts can be used to build bridges of peace.

Mariah Carey Divorce: Watch the Nick Cannon Interview that Ended it All

1

What ended Mariah Carey’s marriage to Nick Cannon? In this interview Nick gave in March, he ticked off a list of women he’d slept with including Kim Kardashian and Nicole Scherzinger. He also described how he lost his virginity at age 13. The normally smart Nick over spoke, and in the process lost his family.

It didn’t help that he also discussed the fact that he and Mariah didn’t consummate their relationship until their wedding night. You can only imagine Mariah’s reaction after this completely vulgar display. It just gets worse and worse. Mariah would not ever want her kids to see this.

Nick also knocks Chelsea Handler and supports Eminem, one of Mariah’s infamous enemies. Maybe he knew divorce was next. “It’s obvious you’re going to need a place to stay,” Big Boy tells Nick at the end.

Mariah Carey’s Dying Marriage Explains Why “Chanteuse” Album Collapsed

0

Mariah Carey’s marriage to Nick Cannon appears to be over, after a week or so of gossip items flushed out the truth. Nick apparently gave an interview to Paramount TV’s “The Insider” in which he admits the couple has been living apart for some time.

And that’s weird because Carey spoke to a mutual friend last night, gave no indication anything was wrong, and Cannon– father of her three year old twins– was at her place.

But the couple’s split does explain why Mariah’s “Elusive Chanteuse” album collapsed with just 100,000 copies in sales. After an initial week of presss, Mariah just let the album die. She didn’t do any more publicity and lost interest in the proceedings.

Now it seems obvious she was overwhelmed by personal problems in May as the album dropped. What a shame– she got great reviews for it, too. But the album’s success was as elusive as its title.

Mariah’s next move is a tour of the Far East doing concerts for the entire month of October. She’ll take Roc and Ro with her. I gather by the time she returns, her second marriage will be on the history books.

In the end, my guess is Mariah and Nick will remain on good terms. But the age difference– 15 years– was just too much. Cannon is 33 years old and sowing his wild oats as his career is in full gear. Mariah can get back to focusing on her career, and of course, the kids.

Scientology Making TV Commercials to Lure In New Recruits

1

The so called Church of Scientology doesn’t give up. They want new recruits despite all the bad press they’ve received here and abroad. Now they’re going to make some commercials for TV and the internet to lure in new recruits.

What’s weird is that considering all the actors they’ve brought in through the Celebrity Center in Hollywood, Scientology is going outside their own people to find actors.  I guess Tom Cruise and John Travolta are too expensive. They are using regular Scientology casting directors however, Valerie Light and Marie Bystrom.

The commercials are non union, of course, no SAG or AFTRA. They’re looking for a guy and a girl each in their 20s who will seem “hipsterish.” The girl is Beautiful, ”Ascendance-type girl”, ”Anthropologie-model look” walking down the streets of New York and going on the subway… Wardrobe: casual…”

The guy is “20 – 25: Hipster/grunge guy living his life in style he is creating – we see him walking down thestreets of New York and spending time in a library…”

I’m told the casting call says that the actors will get $300 a day and “no residuals.”

George Clooney Wedding: Around Lake Como, Everyone Speculates

0

“You’d think they were royalty.” I’ve heard that a lot this week around Como, Italy about local movie star George Clooney and his fiancee Amal Alamuddin. I’ve also heard that they’re getting married next week, next month, “the end of this month,” in Venice, right here in Como, or up at George’s house along the upper part of Lake Como.

One actual fact: it won’t be this month. Clooney is busy in the U.S. with a project. Also, Como is teeming with tourists.Every hotel is booked, the funicular is full, and there isn’t enough gelato to go around. (Actually there is– too much.)

At the legendary and amazing Villa D’Este, where I had lunch yesterday, no one knows a thing. The manicured grounds would be the perfect location for a star studded wedding, certainly. Beautiful people swan around. The heads of international banks take strolls. The sun glistens on a floating pool right on the lake.

Villa D’Este may be the most beautiful (and expensive) location within 100 miles of Clooney’s estate. But the very nice people there say they’re booked and haven’t had a word.

Around Como and its environs, pictures of George Clooney are hung in many establishments, from tabacs to 4 star restaurants. I asked in one place, “Does he come here?” The answer: no.

George does hang out at Harry’s Bar in Cernobbio, down river from his home. But he hasn’t been seen there in a while and no engagement parties are being planned.

At Villa D’Este they have a theory: the wedding is in England.

If only we could wait around and see. But Como means “we want all your money” in Italian. So we’ll have to hear about it from afar…
