Woody Allen, 89, Brings His Jazz Band Back for Charity Show at New NY Hot Spot (Video)

0

It’s been quite a while since Woody Allen and his jazz band played a show at NY’s Cafe Carlyle. Five years to be exact since bandleader Eddy Davis passed away.

Last year I asked Woody if he would play live again. He said it was unlikely. With Davis gone, Woody was pessimistic there would be a return.

But there he was Monday night at Cafe Bouloud on the East Side, wailing away on his clarinet with the whole band. The club inside Cafe Bouloud is called Maison Barnes, and it’s a winner. Wow. Maybe NYC is back!

At least Woody is back, which is very reassuring in this insane moment in American history.

Special thanks to Woody and Soon Yi’s daughter Bechet for capturing the moment on video.

Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock to Lead Grammys All-Star Tribute to Quincy Jones on Sunday

0

The late great Quincy Jones is going to get a huge tribute from the Grammy Awards on Sunday night.

Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock lead the all star list of performers that includes Brad Paisley, Brittany Howard, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Cynthia Erivo, Quincy’s protege Jacob Collier, Janelle Monáe, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Sheryl Crow, and St. Vincent.

Sunday night’s line up is pretty amazing. It already includes Benson Boone, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, Charli xcx, Doechii, RAYE, Sabrina Carpenter, Shakira, and Teddy Swims. Both Taylor Swift and Beyonce were also featured in a Grammys promo that aired Sunday.

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars are not confirmed but it’s likely they will be there as well. They may be the Gramamys “special guests” that were billed during the promo. But there’s always a chance Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will show up. The Beatles have two nominations for “Now and Then.”

As for Quincy, or Q, as he liked to be called, it’s impossible to overstate his influence on the history of popular music. He deserves a big send off.

PS Q is also getting a big tribute on Saturday night at Clive Davis’s pre-Grammy gala. That night is said to already so jam packed with performances I’ve heard they’re going to start the music during the dinner!

Watch CNN’s Jim Acosta Exit CNN After 18 Years: “Don’t give into the lies, don’t give into the fear”

0

Jim Acosta was a beacon of light at CNN for 18 years.

Today, this fine journalist exited the network after they demoted him and offered him a midnight spot. Acosta said No thanks. He will run a Substack for the time being. But I’ll bet he has a great broadcast job soon.

CNN, it’s felt, bowed to pressure from the Trump administration to muzzle their attack dog. We live in a vicious time since Trump has taken over the White House again. Tonight, I watched police cars descend, lights blazing, on a car that had dark colored people in it. The cops pulled it over, got everyone out, demanded IDs. They were ready to pounce. Fortunately, all the passengers and the driver had their paperwork. I wonder if CNN will ever report the Nazi tactics being used now on minorities.

Acosta insists that the powerful people answer for the damage they’re doing to all of us. I look forward to seeing him soon, and reading him now.

To paraphrase James Earl Jones, THIS is not CNN.

Caroline Kennedy Disembowels Cousin RFK Jr on Eve of Cabinet Confirmation Hearing (Watch Video)

Most of the Kennedy family has turned against Robert Kennedy Jr.

Now it’s Caroline Kennedy’s turn. In the video below she labels him a predator. And that’s compliment.

Caroline, twice an ambassador, is a measured person. She’s not given to hyperbole. She joins RFK Jr’s sisters and other cousins in pleading with the Sebate Confirmation Committees not to let Bobby Jr. anywhere near the government.

Of course, Bobby’s worst ally is his wife, Cheryl Hines. She’s become a Stepford wife. From the Inauguration pictures, it’s clear she’s completely down with her husband’s idiotic stands and theories. I think she has been for a long time.

Exclusive: “60 Minutes” Picks Timothee Chalamet as Their Oscar Pick with February 16th Profile

0

Seen on the street yesterday in NY: Timothee Chalamet cavorting with Anderson Cooper and a film crew.

What does it mean? Sources tell me Timmy has been chosen by “60 Minutes” as their Oscar pick for this year. Cooper’s piece on him will air on February 16th, already a busy night with “The White Lotus” premiere and “SNL 50” on NBC.

Chalamet’s Oscar chances have improved greatly over the last couple of weeks. “A Complete Unknown” is on track for $80 to $100 million. Audiences love it. The Academy and SAG love it. Bob Dylan couldn’t be happier.

Timmy’s “SNL” performance this past weekend also went over like gangbusters. He sent an old, obscure Dylan song on to the iTunes charts.

The “60 Minutes” piece comes right in the middle of Oscar voting. Between now then there will be a couple more PR hits, too.

Nothing guarantees the Oscar. Adrien Brody is right there in the race although “The Brutalist” hasn’t had made much money, less than $10 million in a month of release. Also, the movie is tough going.

Stay tuned!

Chips Ahoy: Chat GPT Fights Back Against China’s Deep Seek with New Version for US Govt

0

Everyone’s going crazy over AI, and Deep Seek, the Chinese version of ChatGPT that turned the markets upside down yesterday.

Just now, Kevin Weil, CPO of Chat GPT, announced big news.

He wrote on Twitter: “Today we’re announcing ChatGPT Gov, a version of ChatGPT that government agencies can deploy in their own MS Azure commercial or government cloud environment.

Enabling the public sector, especially the U.S. Federal government, to leverage ChatGPT is critical to maintaining America’s global leadership in AI. We see enormous potential for these tools to support the public sector in tackling complex challenges—from improving public health and infrastructure to strengthening national security.”

This is a counter attack against yesterday’s move by China’s Deep Seek to overtake ChatGPT, owned by AI’s Sam Altman. All of a sudden, everyone wants the Chinese version because it uses fewer chips. That sent NVIDIA spiraling downward yesterday.

What does this really mean? These companies want to destroy me, and all other media or content generators. Now Goliaths are fighting over how to do it. Actual people who write stuff on the internet should be alarmed because these people want our extinction.

Anyway, this is the whole ChatGPT story today.

All of this must be cooked overnight since Altman posted last night to Twitter and didn’t mention this at all.

Another great day (being facetious) for all of us! The government will now give answers from robots.

Bob Dylan Post a Remembrance of The Late Garth Hudson: “The real driving force behind The Band”

0

Bob Dylan — I’ve never written so much about him in my life! Suddenly he’s everywhere!

Now Dylan has posted a nice remembrance of Garth Hudson, calling him “the driving forced behind The Band.” Robbie and Levon may be surprised to hear that!

Dylan made a lot of music with The Band, so he knows. And now he’s outlived all of them.

Dylan, meantime, has just announced more tour dates. He’s starting in Tulsa, Oklahoma, home of the Bob Dylan Center, where all his archives are stored.

Bob says to listen to The Weight, which you can below:

Alec Baldwin Family Reality TV Series Accused of Trading on “Rust” Tragedy in Trailer

0

Alec Baldwin is being accused already of trading on the “Rust” tragedy in the trailer for his reality series.

“The Baldwins” is coming to TLC soon, and the trailer dropped today. Viewers have noticed a couple of things. One, Hilaria’s Spanish accent is not in evidence. After all, she’s not Spanish, but the accent grew over time. Hilaria– real name Hilary — is back to a flat American drawl and it sounds fine.

But what really stands out about “The Baldwins” trailer is Hilaria talking about the tragedy in which Alec pulled the trigger on a prop gun that killed “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Hutchins died leaving a small child and a husband.

Hilaria says in the trailer, in a narration over an aerial shot of the “Rust” set: “A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy … and we’re trying to parent through it.”

In appropriate? Baldwin was exonerated in the tragedy, but they won’t let go of it. “Rust” was eventually finished and may yet be released. So maybe they think this is promotion for the movie. It’s a bad idea.

One commenter on YouTube wrote: “Somehow, they make it about themselves…”
Another wrote:
“Pretty shameful to use a death for show publicity…especially when he pulled the trigger. Not buying the “whoa is me. I’m going to lament in my mansion with a manicured lawn and pool.” Cue the sad music…

HBO Pitting Return of”The White Lotus” Against “SNL 50” 3 Hour Special: “Go big or go home…in a goddamn body bag” (Trailer)

0

HBO is betting that fans of “The White Lotus” really want to see the third season premiere.

So they’re pitting the February 16th return against NBC’s “SNL 50” three hour special.

“White Lotus” will start at 9pm, the middle hour of the “SNL” extravaganza. So expect Lorne Michaels to put hot stuff in that hour. Will it work? Will TVs explode? We’ll find out.

Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, and Natasha Rothwell lead the cast of Mike White’s action packed season set in Thailand. Wait for that last line of the trailer: “Go big or go home…in a goddamn body bag.”

Lady Gaga Set to Make “Mayhem” With New Album on March 7th Including Bruno Mars Hit Duet

0

Maybe Lady Gaga is the “special guest” at the Grammys on Sunday.

This morning billboards popped up all over the place announcing the release of her new album.

It’s called “Mayhem,” and will include both her smash hit, “Die with a Smile,” with Bruno Mars, and an earlier single called “Disease.”

Gaga will most likely hit the Grammy stage to promote the album. That will be followed by an intense marketing campaign and probably a Mayhem tour.

The title: is it Gaga causing Mayhem? Or is the Mayhem in our lives because of Trump. I guess we’ll find out.
