UPDATE Hilton Hotels Are Cowards After All, Disavow Minneapolis Hotel Manager Who Wouldn’t Let ICE Thugs Stay There

0

That was fast.

Hilton Hotels prove themselves to be cowards, too.

They’ve disavowed the Minneapolis hotel and franchise that tried to ban ICE immigration thugs from stay at their place.

The hotel refused to put up ICE agents and yesterday, the Department of Homeland Security went public whining they couldn’t get rooms.

The internet cheered Hilton for denying entry to these violent, cruel agents of Kristi Noem.

But now Hilton corporate has pulled the plug with the franchise, declaring they refuse to deny anyone a room, even if they’re in town to harass and separate families.

Hilton said: “We have been in direct contact with the hotel, and they have apologized for the actions of their team, which was not in keeping with their policies. They have taken immediate action to resolve this matter and are contacting impacted guests to ensure they are accommodated. Hilton’s position is clear: Our properties are open to everyone and we do not tolerate any form of discrimination.”

Uh huh. So all those people who cheered Hilton and said they were signing up for Hilton Honors can forget it.

CBS Evening News Debut of Tony Dokoupil Goes Sideways After 15 Minutes with Unsure Anchor Battling Broadcast

0

You had to feel bad for Tony Dokoupil tonight.

His official debut as anchor of the CBS Evening News suddenly went sideways after a mostly sound 15 minutes.

He lost control of the show, and so did the director, confusing Dokoupil about what story was next. The whole disaster lasted just more than a minute, but it seemed like it went on forever.

Tony panicked and tried to recover the best he could. For the first half of the show, Dokoupil seemed a little scared, but he managed to plow through. He introduced ABC News’s Matt Guttman awkwardly but what followed was at least informational. Charlie D’Agata came next, and was very calming in a sea of novices.

Dokoupil’s other big problem is that he keeps thanking correspondents. Lavishly. Tony just say Thanks, and move on. This is a grown up show, not an Andy Hardy musical. We want to hear the story, not how polite you are.

The upside: CBS has restored the news set from the last year of silliness. Tony is sitting in front of a newsroom, and reading headlines. No more weird suburban finished basement and feature stories. The logo is traditional, too. It’s a throwback to the real days of the Tiffany network. We’ll take it.

If this were the good old days, Dokoupil would be over at the Biarritz on West 57th St. knocking back a few with Morley Safer and Harry Reasoner and flirting with the waitresses. But it’s 2025, so Tony’s probably home having cocoa and doing homework with his kids.

Tomorrow is another day. Note: how about a dress rehearsal at 5:30?

Good News: Bruno Mars Says His Album is Done — Maybe We’ll Have It in the Spring, First New Music Since Gaga/ Rosé Collabs

0

Bruno Mars is back!

The hit pop singer says his new album is done. Maybe we’ll see it in the spring.

Bruno hasn’t had an album out in a long time, not since his collaboration with Anderson.Paak on Silk Sonic.

Nevertheless, he’s had two hit duets this year — “Apt” with Rose from Blackpink, and the monster hit “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga.

Unclear if those two singles will on the new album.

ICE Complains That Hilton Hotels in Minneapolis Have Cancelled Thugs’ Reservations Because They’re Anti-Immigrants: Bravo

0

In this dim time, a little light.

Hilton Hotels in Minneapolis have rejected the reservations made by ICE.

Kristi Noem’s cowardly thugs are whining about it, too. They went to Twitter X to complain, as if this would stir public response in their favor.

I’m suddenly proud to be a member of Hilton Honors. Keep ICE out of respectable places!

Sen. Mark Kelly Responds to Pete Hesgeth Trying to Demote, Censure Him and Take His Pension: I will fight this with everything I’ve got”

0

Sen. Mark Kelly say he will fight former Fox News anchor Pete Hegseth “with Everything I’ve got.”

Hegseth, secretary of “War” haha wants to demote Kelly, strip him of his pension, and censure him in Congress for speaking his mind.

Kelly, a former astronaut and great patriot, also husband of Gabby Giffords, is totally in the right here.

Kelly, quite correctly, wrote this yesterday: “Trump thinks acting like Putin makes him look strong, but what he did in Venezuela has strategic implications he doesn’t understand. China could try to use it to justify going after Taiwan, or Russia could use it to justify escalation in Ukraine or even elsewhere. Trump doesn’t get that and it makes Americans and our allies and partners less safe.”

Hegseth, a self-confessed drunk, will be humiliated in the end. This is just an act of intimidation by a loud mouth bully. All Americans should support Kelly, especially MAGA since their own first amendment rights are at stake here, too.

Read Kelly’s statement below. Retweet if you support Kelly.

60 Minutes: Watch Scott Pelley’s Piece on the Venezuela Invasion Reveal US Prisoners Not Rescued, Plus Sen. Mark Kelly Ask What Is Going On Here?

0

After several missteps at CBS, “60 Minutes” came back with arms blazing last night.

Watch Scott Pelley’s piece on Trump’s invasion. Among the revelations is that there US prisoners still in the country who were not rescued Saturday night when Trump was busy taking the Maduros.

Senator Mark Kelly asks what’s really going on here. Kelly’s presence in the piece is key especially after CBS News let Pete Hegseth run his mouth Saturday night with Tony Dokoupil.

Good work from Scott Pelley as usual.

PS What IS going on here? Maduro’s time in New York so far has looked like a vacation. He’s acting like he has theater tickets tonight.

Critics Choice Awards Bring Surprises in Supporting as “One Battle” Actors Split to Give Jacob Elordi, Amy Madigan Unique Wins (Full List)

The biggest surprises tonight at the Critics Choice Awards were in the supporting categories.

Who would have guessed that Jacob Elordi could win for “Frankenstein”? Elordi gives a fine performance as the Monster, but he had a lot of competition.

Mostly that was from “One Battle After Another” stars Benicio del Toro and Sean Penn.

But it looks like the former two split the vote, giving Elordi the edge. There’s no doubt that Elordi is becoming a hot actor, but this did produce some gasps.

The same thing happened in Supporting Actress, where veteran actress Amy Madigan picked up an award for “Weapons,” a horror film. Madigan — a real actor’s actor — is 75 and hasn’t been nominated for anything since 1986. She’s one half of a beloved acting couple — her husband is Ed Harris — but she hasn’t gotten this much attention in years. Good for her!

Again, all the actresses from “One Battle After Another” may have divided and conquered the voters. Teyana Taylor was nominated, and should have won. Chase Infiniti was put in lead, although she’s really supporting. Two actresses were also nominated for Supporting in “Sentimental Value.” All of that left the door open for Madigan, who will no doubt get an Oscar nom as well.

The 2026 Critics Choice Awards were extremely well produced by the way. They ended right on time. Some of the writing was flat, especially in the TV categories. But the movie awards were top notch. Chelsea Handler was funny but not insulting, which was key to her success. Also, her words about Rob and Michele Reiner were lovely and heartfelt.

“One Battle After Another” will take the Golden Globes next Sunday in comedy. “Hamnet” should be Best Drama. They will each head to the Oscars. For Chalamet, this may be the beginning of a huge victory lap, although Leonardo Di Caprio shouldn’t be written off yet.

Chalamet, thank goodness, has dropped the orange suits and manic behavior that almost lost him everything. He pulled it together just in time. His fealty to Kylie Jenner is certainly admirable.

Neil Diamond Sends Hugh Jackman Classic Guitar as “Song Sung Blue” Sends 8 of Famed Singer’s Hit Onto iTunes Top 100 (Videos)

0

Hugh Jackman just posted a terrific video to Instagram.

Famed singer songwriter Neil Diamond sent him one of his prized guitars as a gift.

Jackman plays a Diamond tribute singer in “Song Sung Blue,” a hit movie currently in theaters.

Diamond has good reason to thank Hugh and everyone involved with the movie. It’s reignited his music catalog.

Suddenly, Diamond — whose hits were in the 70s and 80s — has no less than eight singles on the iTunes top 100.

They include “Sweet Caroline,” “Song Sung Blue,” “Forever in Blue Jeans,” “I Am…I Said,” and “Play Me.”

(We used to joke about the lyrics to “I Am…I Said” when it came out originally. The chair line — “to no one else, not even the chair” — was a hoot on AM radio. The chair never responded!)

Neil has Parkinson’s but still managed to host a reception for the movie over the holidays at his house in Aspen for co-star Kate Hudson and her famous family. Hudson plays Claire, ther other half of the tribute duo in the film.

“Song Sung Blue” has made $25 million so far at the box office, and looks like it has “legs.”

The movie covers most of Neil’s songs but leaves out a crucial one, “Solitary Man.” I’ve forgiven director Craig Brewer for the omission.

“Stranger Things” Have Happened: Actor Joe Keery Latest TV Star to Get a Number 1 Pop Hit as “End of Beginning” Beats Taylor Swift

0

“Stranger Things” have happened.

Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington on the Netflix show, has the number 1 song on Spotify and on iTunes.

“End of Beginning” is even topping Taylor Swift.

Shows you the crazy popularity of the series as it ends with Season 5.

Keery’s song came on a 2022 album under the aka DJO. It’s been a fan favorite since then but has never been included on a “Stranger Things” soundtrack.

Nevertheless, fans have made YouTube videos using the song as their own soundtrack.

Keery is not the first TV star to get a pop hit off his TV show. That started maybe with Ricky Nelson in the late 50s, on through hits by John Travolta, David Soul, Jack Wagner and others.

Is this the end of the beginning of his pop career? Or will we have more Keery releases in 2026? One thing’s for certain: any music connected to “Stranger Things” is a hit. Kate Bush’s whole career was revived by the show’s usage of “Running Up that Hill” (Number 8 on iTunes today). This season Diana Ross’s “Upside Down” suddenly blew up after it was played in the first episode (number 67). Two Prince songs, “When Doves Cry” (45) and “Purple Rain” (19) are on their way back as well.

PS Also on iTunes, used in Season 5: David Bowie’s “Heroes,” Fleetwood Mac’s “Landslide,” the theme music from the show, and a few more.
