The heyday of Howard Stern at Sirius XM is over.
According to a press release from the satellite radio company, Andy Cohen is moving to Channel 101, one of Howard’s two venues.
Howard is still on Channel 100, but will start broadcasting one day a week live, and the rest archival material.
All summer, Stern has been laying off staff left and right in preparation for these changes.
You may remember that a year ago there were rumors that Stern was out, either retiring or forced to downsize because of budget.
But right after Labor Day, Stern reasserted himself and the show went on like nothing happened.
But now the other shoe has dropped.
Howard and wife Beth turned up this week at the Sirius XM John Mayer concert in the Hamptons. The King of All Media looked frail and not the picture of robust health. very stooped over.
Meantime, Cohen was the belle of the ball, introducing his unlikely bff, Mayer, to a crowd that included Christie Brinkley, Katie Couric, and Paul McCartney (unreported so far, but my sources say he was there).
It hasn’t been an easy summer for Howard. He and Beth recently emerged victorious after a lawsuit from a former assistant was dismissed. He’s also been the subject of ire from the employees he fired.
So what next for Howard? He’s had a 40 year run, and made a fortune. He can just do one show a week, and maybe something online at YouTube or whatever. At 72, he could just relax now and enjoy the amazing life he built for his family.
