Shock: Anthony Geary, Emmy Winning Star of “General Hospital, Dies at 78 — Latest Death of Show’s Veteran Actors

0

Shock: Emmy winning star of “General Hospital,” Anthony Geary has died at age 78.

Geary, who played Luke Spencer — one half of the famous Luke and Laura — had retired from the show a few years ago. He was living in Amsterdam and was married to his husband of 30 years.

Cause of death is said to have followed scheduled — but unidentified — surgery three days ago.

Only last week, Geary had been filmed by his husband watching an interview with Genie Francis, aka Laura, still om the show and more than a decade younger. She sang his praises.

Geary’s death is the latest in a series of “GH” vets who worked with him beginning in the late 70s. Among them Leslie Charleson, Denise Alexander, and Tristan Rogers, as well as Jackie Zeman. A whole generation of “General Hospital” actors has been wiped out.

It’s hard to imagine how popular Luke and Laura were on the ABC soap in the 80s. Their wedding as the biggest thing that ever happened to daytime TV. Geary came and went from the show, at one point appearing as his identical first cousin just to get away from playing Luke.

Geary won a record breaking 8 Emmy Awards playing Luke Spencer.

His husband, Claudio Gama, told TV Insider: “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”

Condolences to his family and legions of fans.

Kennedy Center Still Can’t Sell Tickets to Heavily Touted Christmas Show Just Two Days Away: Grenell’s Waterloo

0
Tricky Dick Grenell’s Waterloo is at hand. Trump’s lackey, the head of the Kennedy Center, faces trouble in two days. That’s when his big cornerstone show, “Noel: Jesus is Born!” plays the Kennedy Center. The problem is, there are lots of tickets available. Like most Kennedy Center shows this holiday season, the theater is unsold. You can see the charts below. Meantime, Grenell, a groveling Trump sycophant, continues to advocate for violence in Venezuela on the part of the US. His legacy will be an asterisk in history as minor, sniveling villain.

Demented Donald Trump Trolls Beloved Director Rob Reiner After Murder — on Social Media — Opens the Door to His Own Ridicule

0

There is no one crueler than Donald Trump.

On social media this morning he actually attacked beloved director Rob Reiner after his murder.

The only one deranged here is Trump. He deserves no mercy for his own personal troubles, like the truth about his 19 year old son, Barron. All bets are off about Barron, whose voice has never been heard in public, who dropped out of NYU and is stashed somewhere in a Trump home.

And forget about wife Melania, whose ties to Jeffrey Epstein are being uncovered daily.

There is no hell hot enough for this vulgar, shameless, mean example of a sick human being.

Trump actually calls Reiner “tortured and struggling.” What nerve, coming from a person whose only accomplishment has been torturing immigrants, knocking down part of the White House without permission, and belittling people around the world.

This is what the President of the United States had to say:

Rob Reiner Son, Nick, Arrested for Sick Murder of Parents — Bodies Found by Daughter — Larry David and Billy Crystal Seen in Shock

0

How much worse could this be?

Rob Reiner and wife Michele were murdered allegedly by their son, Nick, 32, a drug addict.

Nick Reiner was arrested this morning by the LAPD for slitting his congenial, lovely parents’ throats. He’s being held on $4 million bond.

The bodies were discovered by the couple’s daughter, Romy, in their Brentwood home, on Sunday.

The Reiners’ friends, Billy Crystal and Larry David, each were seen in shock at the Reiners’ home last night while the police waited for the coroner. Exclusive: Romy had called them immediately after calling the police, sources say.

It’s a horror of a huge magnitude. The couple knew they had a mentally ill son. Rob Reiner went so far to appease his son that in 2016 he directed a movie written by Nick called “Being Charlie.” It was about a father grappling with a drug addicted son.

The irony is that Reiner could not have been more beloved as a director and actor. As Hollywood legacy — son of famed director-actor- writer- humorist Carl Reiner — he couldn’t have been more respected or enjoyed as an entertainer.

Rob Reiner is at the center of a generation in Hollywood as if he were the sun, not just the son. His studio, Castle Rock, produced “Seinfeld,” and he was close friends with Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David. Billy Crystal starred in two of his most famous movies. One hundred year old stars Mel Brooks and Dick van Dyke were like uncles.

Rob’s father wrote and produced van Dyke’s self titled show. With Brooks, his “20,000 Year Old Man” was a classic. They wrote for Sid Caesar.

It’s a stunning moment in Hollywood history.

But it’;’s also a very human story not uncommon among families with children who suffer from drug addiction and mental illness.

People is reporting the Reiners may have been killed by their son, Nick.

TMZ is reporting that two people, a man and a woman, have been found dead in the Hollywood home of beloved director-producer Rob Reiner’s home.

They match the ages of Reiner and his wife, Michelle.

UPDATE TMZ now reporting the couple is dead, and it looks like knife wounds.

Wikipedia is already reporting Reiner’s death.

https://www.justthinktwice.gov/rob-reiners-son-nick-reiner-i-lived-streets-battling-drug-addictionThe Reiners’ son, Nick, has had a bad time with drugs and homelessness in the past. There are reports that he may have been escorted from the home.

This is a terrible tragedy. Keep refreshing…

Reiner, son of the late legend Carl Reiner, directed many hits including “When Harry Met Sally,”  “Stand By Me,” “This is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” and many others.

He began his career on “All in the Family,” playing “meathead” Mike Stivic.

Before Reiner was married to Michelle, he was married for years to actress Penny Marshall.

Reiner, one of the nicest people anywhere, has been a long time political advocate on the right side of liberal causes for decades.

Slow Burn “SNL” Last Night Dunks on Variety’s “Actors on Actors,” Also Unveils Ashley Padilla as Hottest New Star in Years

0

Last night’s “Saturday Night Live” was a slow burn show.

It took some time to ramp up from mildly low energy to some curiously funny sketches.

One highlight: that Ashley Padilla is the new Kate McKinnon, taking over the show very quickly. Wow. She’s setting records for being featured in sketches.

The funniest sketch of the night was a filmed bit, a parody of Variety magazine’s “Actors on Actors.” (See below.) This involves two actors in the various awards races who interview each other with the invisible help of Joe Franklin.

It’s not like “SNL” hasn’t struck gold since McKinnon. Sarah Sherman and Bowen Yang are terrific. But Padilla is fast out of the gate.

Box Office: “Wicked For Good” is Now You See It, Now You Don’t, Plus Ella McCay DOA, Foreign Language Films Aren’t Translating

0

The number 1 movie of this weekend was “Zootopia.”

Total for Disney animation is $26.3 million this weekend, with a total of $259 million. That’s a runaway hit. Worldwide, “Zootopia” is in the rare $1 billion club. Yes, international box office was a stunning $758 million.

All of that was accomplished in 3 weeks.

“Wicked for Good” has had one more week than that at the box office. To paraphrase another current movie’s title, their box office is “Now You See Me, Now You Don’t.”

“WFG” has brooms and monkeys but needs legs. As of today, US Box office is $312 million. After a huge opening, “WFG” has been in steady decline. This week was again down 51% from the prior week. Considering Universal must have spent $100 million on promotion, the success here looks limited.

Look, it could be worse. Disney has had a bad time with live action films. “Deliver Me from Nowhere” tanked, and now “Ella McCay” is DOA with a $2.1 million opening weekend. That’s literally HALF of what they expected. No discernible promotion, bad weather, a lead no one ever heard of all contributed to that debacle.

And still it could be worse. There are no fewer than three great foreign films in theaters: “It Was Just An Accident,” “Sentimental Value,” and “The Secret Agent.” All of them have been raved about, are getting molto awards, Oscar nominations, etcetera. Their box office is nil. Is it because people can’t read anymore, so subtitles are useless? Very sad. Plus “Nouvelle Vogue,” a fourth one, is on Netflix. A plus! This is a crisis.

It’s not pretty out there.

The two movies that theater owners are hoping for “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” and “Marty Supreme.” Can they get the juices going? At least they have collectible popcorn buckets!

Bari Weiss’s Embarrassing CBS Christian Hour with Erika Kirk Sends Charlie Kirk Book to Number 2, and Temporarily Sold Out

0

Seventy years of CBS News was chucked out the window tonight by Bari Weiss.

Could there have been anything more cringe and embarrassing as Weiss’s Christian Hour interview with Erika Kirk, widow of right wing evangelist Charlie Kirk?

My favorite part was when the closed captioning misread the word ‘intifada’ as ‘frittatta.”

Everyone of the great CBS legends in heaven rose out of their graves.

The purpose of Weiss’s Town Hall was to sell copies of Charlie Kirk’s latest book. Now “Stop in the Name of God” is number 2 on amazon. The bookseller says the title now sold out — temporarily. Self published, Kirk’s book probably had a low first print run so they could claim a sell out.

Weiss’s Town Hall had an audience, but they looked like they’d been pulled in from a cosmetics infomercial. None of them were allowed to speak or question Kirk. They just shook their heads in assent to anything mentioned. For all we know, they were applauding a new copper sauce pan.

Those who did speak were split between Christian fans, and a couple of people who did throw Kirk curveballs. One was a Jewish man whose daughter and fiancee were killed on the streets of Washington DC in an antisemitic attack. He asked Kirk what Turning Point, her loony tune cult, was doing about antisemitism on the right. He didn’t get an answer.

Another questioner was the man who was asking Kirk a question when he was assassinated. He asked Kirk what she thought of Donald Trump’s divisive and violent rhetoric. She sidestepped that question, too.

The Town Hall show was full of Christian advertising. It was another embarrassment, but definitely a step — made by Weiss — to turn CBS into a new Fox News. Weiss has come off not as a professional journalist, but as Velma from “Scooby Doo,” thinking her career has been made. Or Andrea from “Beverly Hills 90210,” who fizzled in adulthood.

Kirk was antisemitic, and so is his wife. I LOL at the idea of her having Jewish Sabbath dinner at home. These people are phonies.

Box Office: “Zootopia,” “Freddy’s 2” Have Strong Fridays, “Wicked” Magic Ebbing, “Ella McCay” a Tragedy in the Making

0

Friday night box office was big big big for the top two releases.

Both “Zootopia 2” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s” had great nights, each up 147% from last Friday.

Those films have legs that will walk them past New Year’s weekend.

Alas, it’s not so great for “Wicked For Good.”

Finishing in 3rd place, “WFG” took in just $2.2 million on Friday, inching up to $305 million. It’s going to be a long broom flight to $400 mil. Maybe it’s time for an incantation.

The new movie of the week is “Ella McCay” from Disney-20th. It’s sadly DOA with just $850,000 on Friday night. The weekend outlook is bleak. James L.Brooks has directed classic movies in the past, so rent one this weekend, like “Broadcast News” or “Terms of Endearment.”

We wait now for “Marty Supreme,” “Song Blue,” “Avatar Fire and Ash,” and “Anaconda” to finish up the year.

PS Happy 85th birthday to Dionne Warwick and 100th Birthday to Dick van Dyke!

“Ella McCay,” from Famed Producer Director James L. Brooks, Splats at Rotten Tomatoes with 18%, Dumped by Disney-20th

0

It’s a sad fate for “Ella McCay.”

A movie no one knows about or understands, what seems like the final project for a famous director is a strike out.

James L. Brooks has the most remarkable resume, from “Mary Tyler Moore,” “Taxi,” “Tracey Ullman” and “The Simpsons” to “Terms of Endearment,” “Broadcast News,” and “As Good as It Gets.”

Even “Spanglish” has its charms.

But “Ella McCay” is an enigma. Disney just dumped it into the abyss. Sixty critics have seen it, and most of them disliked it intensely.

The only person aside from Brooks who seemed to care about this movie was Jamie Lee Curtis, who became the marketing point person

One day maybe I’ll see it on VOD and have a better idea of what this movie was even about. There’s no way of figuring it out from the publicity or marketing.

There are some predictions of a $4 million weekend, but we’ll see what happens. If the weather is very bad Saturday night, “Ella” won’t even by O’Kay.
