George Conway Implies That Wife, Trump Spokeswoman Kellyanne, Told Him President “Has a Vocabulary of 200 Words”

0

George Conway: it’s hard to imagine he lives with his wife, Kellyanne, in the same building let alone the same county. Conway is famous for being 180 degrees apart from the shrewish idiotic presidential spokeswoman.

George is usually more guarded about references to Kellyanne in his Tweets. But today he mentioned her directly in one, and implied that he was talking about her in another.

In one he wrote, in reference to personal financial holdings: “My wife and I own no individual stocks and we even had to sell our state municipal **money funds** because she works for that demented and incompetent jackass in the White House, but this guy owns stock in companies that could actually be affected by government action. …”

In another he implied that Kellyanne confided in him that Trump only has a 200 word vocabulary. I think that’s even an over-estimation.

First Amendment Legal Expert Floyd Abrams on Trump’s Chilling Executive Order Designed to Kill Free Speech

0

Floyd Abrams is one of the country’s leading legal experts on the First Amendment. He’s also the father of journalist Dan Abrams. Floyd spoke today on Dan’s SiriusXM radio show regarding Donald Trump’s new Executive Order designed to kill free speech.

Trump is incensed by Twitter fact checking his inane, crazy and dangerous Tweets regarding mail-in ballots for voting. Trump is trying to scare his followers into believing that mailed ballots aren’t safe and will be tampered with. This isn’t true, of course, but Trump’s sadly illiterate and easily impressionable base can be told almost anything– including the sky is falling– and they’d believe it.

Trump’s Executive Order is only about him, and his petty differences with Twitter. But it threatens the First Amendment, which he’s never read.

Says Floyd Abrams:

“The First Amendment issue is: can you shut up the social media entities when they engage in what they view as fact-checking? And I don’t think you can. I’m confident that that would violate the First Amendment. And, at the end of the day, that’s what this is all about. No matter what the results are of any internal studies. What is sought here by the president, what is sought here by the drafters of the executive order, is a limitation on speech. And that’s what the First Amendment does not allow.”

Of course, a lot of this has to do with Trump trying to distract his base from the fact that over 100,000 people have died from corona virus, and he let it happen. Or caused it by his inaction and his easily seen clips of denying that corona virus would do any harm. The death toll rises, the new cases rise, in places where Trump voters could be mortally affected, and he wants to point the finger at anyone else.

Nevertheless, Abrams said he doesn’t think Trump can get away with it.

Abrams said: “At the end of the day, I’m confident, maybe wrong, but I’m confident that the administration will not be able to prevent Twitter and its competitors from putting in their own ultimate, for themselves, judgment that something the president–or anyone else–says online is inconsistent with the truth.”

Madonna — Losing Her Mind — Declares “F the Police” in One Instagram Post, Adopted Son Dancing to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” in Another

Madonna is upset about the killing of George Floyd by four policemen in Minneapolis. It’s understandable. But her response is over the top and awful, making things so much worse with a final declaration of “Fuck the police!” What followed that post is Madonna’s adopted teenage son, David Banda, dancing to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us,” a song that when it was initially released carried an anti-Semitic epithet that had to be expunged from broadcast versions but remains in some iterations. Someone’s just got to stop her from posting anymore to Instagram until she thinks through what this all means. She’s losing more points than she’s gaining. Also, while David is certainly a good dancer, and I know his intentions are pure, the sight of him expressing himself in political dance in Madonna’s expensive kitchen with a French bulldog in the background is a crazy juxtaposition of messages, isn’t it?

UPDATE on the Real Ischia, Italy Film Festival, Takes Place July 12th-19th as Ischia Smart Film 2020

0

Forget anything I told you a couple of weeks ago about the Ischia, Italy Film Festival. Here’s the real information about the real festival, run by the great Pascale Vicedomini. I’m booking my tickets now!

“The 18th annual Ischia Global Film & Music Fest is going to take place here this July as planned, except it will be called ‘Ischia Smart 2020’ to reflect the immediate needs of Italy’s Film and Audiovisual Industry, which is going through such a difficult time, along with the Campania region where the Isle of Ischia is located,” it was announced today by Pascal Vicedomini and Tony Renis, the festival’s founder and honorary chairperson.

“We owe it to an island that over a period of 18 years has become a significant reference point for international show business, and we wish to convey to the world the image of a typical Italian summer in a safe region. Campania, as its Governor Vincenzo De Luca has defined it – is a land full of optimism and enthusiasm that is ready to relaunch its artistic treasures and welcome tourists back to its unique locations,” he continued.

The dates of the festival – announced in February in the US, during the 15th edition of the “Los Angeles, Italia Film, Fashion and Art Fest” by producer Vicedomini and board-member Franco Nero have been confirmed as July 12 to 19. It will shortly be launched by a number of promotional and digital events in Italy and throughout the world.

Renis noted that over the years more and more Hollywood stars and studios have attended the annual gathering, with the expectation that they will be returning for future editions. “Ischia is a sought- after destination all over the world. Italy has always been the ideal setting for international productions thanks to its breathtaking landscapes and its talented film professionals,” he added. “And we hope that the beautiful Green Island will be chosen as a location for the upcoming television series ‘Ripley’ to be written and directed by the Academy Award-winning Steven Zaillian, who presided over last year’s festival.”

In compliance with the new rules imposed by the world health emergency, the Ischia Global Fest will make use of state-of-the-art technology and social platforms to create virtual events with leading personalities from the show business and artistic worlds participating. The artists will be connected live from their own locations to interact with the Italian professionals on the island.

The board of the Global Film & Music Festival, promoted with the support of Mibact (Dg Cinema,) the Campania Region and the participation of Siae and Nuovo Imaie, includes Renis as well as honorary president Trudie Styler (UK), and board-members Mark and Dorothy Canton, Marina Cicogna, former AMPAS president Cheryl Boone Isaacs, and marketing-executive Al Newman (USA) amongst others.

A New “Fiddler on the Roof” Movie is Coming with “Hamilton” Director Thomas Kail: Who Will Play Tevye? Lin-Manuel?

0

There was a movie of “Fiddler on Roof,” the musical, back in 1971 as it ended its seven year run on Broadway. Norman Jewison directed it, Chaim Topol starred as Tevye. The movie holds up nicely.

But who cares? It’s time for a remake. Thomas Kail, director of “Hamilton” on Broadway and “Fosse/Verdon” on TV, will direct. Producers include Dan Jinks, Kail, and Aaron Harnick, the 51 year old grandson of 96 year old Sheldon Harnick, who wrote the Tony award winning book for “Fiddler.” (Aaron’s mother is the great actress Barbara Barrie.)

The Jewison movie was not a big hit when it came out, but it grew in popularity over the years. A new version is not a bad idea, but it will depend on fealty to the source material, and who will be cast in the major roles. There have been two recent revivals on and off Broadway in recent years. The Broadway one starred Danny Burstein, who was nominated for a Tony and would be excellent in the new film as Tevye. The off Broadway version was directed by Joel Grey, and performed Yiddish to much acclaim. If Kail could figure out a way to combine those two efforts, it would be ideal.

The great stage Tevyes of the past were Zero Mostel, who originated the role, and Herschel Bernardi, whose son, Michael Bernardi, was in the revival not as Tevye but stepped in as an understudy.

Could Kail go with Lin Manuel Miranda, the creator of “Hamilton,” as Tevye? Why not? He’d be great.

MGM will make the new movie. My only concern is that turns out like “Home for Purim,” the movie that was supposed to be made in Christopher Guest’s hilarious comedy, “For Your Consideration.” Producers arrive on set and proclaim the movie “too Jewish.” They change the title and the holiday (to Thanksgiving). In Hollywood, you could see a very sanitized PC new “Fiddler” in which no one is Jewish, Anatevka is suddenly a small town in Iowa, and Tevye IS a rich man, named Teddy. We’ll see what happens.

UPDATE Lady Gaga Has the Top 2 Singles Leading Up to Her Album Release with “Rain on Me” and New “Sour Candy”

0

UPDATE THURS AFTERNOON: When Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica” drops tonight at midnight she will already have the numbers 1 and 2 top singles on iTunes. “Rain on Me” is number 1 and “Sour Candy” is number 1. Chew on that!

EARLIER: LOL. You can’t win. After I was told there was nothing more to hear before the “Chromatica” release, Lady Gaga dropped another track from the album.

“Sour Candy” features BLACKPINK. The album comes out tonight. Once again, don’t believe everything you hear. This track already has 3 million views on YouTube.

Lady Gaga’s 6th Album, “Chromatica,” Is Already Number 1 on Amazon, But No One Will Hear It Before Its Friday Release

0

True or false: the last Lady Gaga album was the soundtrack to “A Star is Born.”

False.

The last Lady Gaga album was “Joanne,” released October 30, 2016. Its first week sales were a total 162,000, and it collapsed after that. It wasn’t until Gaga appeared as the half time musical act on the Super Bowl, the following February, that the “Joanne” album finally exploded. Indeed, all Gaga recordings flew up the charts that night, and revived her sales enormously.

“A Star is Born” followed almost exactly two years later, in October 2018. Opening week sales were 201,000. It was another slow builder, until the movie finally took hold and “Shallow” became an anthem.

Now we wait for Friday’s “Chromatica.” Postponed from April 10th, the album had a first single, “Stupid Love,” that was more of a loss leader, a teaser. It didn’t do much more than tell the world Lady Gaga was back.

The second single, a duet with Ariana Grande called “Rain on Me,” is number 1 right now. It couldn’t be anything else. Ariana’s manager, Scooter Braun, touts it on social media like it’s his client’s record and Gaga is the guest star. But it’s brilliant marketing, the marriage of two superstars.

“Chromatica” is already number 1 on Amazon, and will debut on iTunes Friday at midnight at number 1. But aside from the two singles, no one’s heard any of it. There are no press copies — too much concern about piracy. Even Tony Bennett hasn’t heard it. So Friday midnight could cause Spotify to crash, as all Gaga fans pile on the service to hear the album for the first time.

With very little else going on, will “Chromatica” have a bigger opening week that “Joanne” or “A Star is Born?” If the marketing is any indication, first week sales should exceed 200,000. Of course, the big problem is media appearances. In a normal release, Gaga would be on Jimmy Fallon first, then doing Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, hitting “Today” or “GMA” for morning concerts, etc. But none of that is available this week.

Lucky for Gaga, with all the beef shortages, her meat dress was probably broiled and served a long time ago. “Chromatica” will be a vegetarian delight!

Urgent: Remembering the Late Great Junior Walker, One of Motown’s Unsung Stars, Virtuoso Sax Player and Singer

0

Tonight while I was listening to Junior Walker on SiriusXM Soul Town, I thought maybe people don’t know much about him anymore. So here’s a little tribute to one of  Motown’s unsung stars.

Jr. Walker and the All Stars were not quite as big as the Temptations or Four Tops, but just as talented. And Junior himself was a double threat. He was a very good R&B singer, but a superstar saxophonist. And that sax was the trademark on his many hits.

Sadly, Junior passed in 1995 at age 64. He didn’t live long enough to have a Renaissance or a great period of nostalgic reflection. But if you stop and listen to those records– so many hits– his accomplishments were extraordinary. They were also incredibly enjoyable.

Walker was born Autry DeWalt Mixon Jr. on June 14, 1931 in Blytheville, Arkansas, and grew up in South Bend, Indiana. He began playing saxophone while in high school. He kicked around Indiana with different bands until he was discovered by Johnny Bristol and Harvey Fuqua, two of the famous Motown lieutenants. He and his “All-Stars” took off immediately with “Shotgun.” To me their signature hit is “What Does It Take (to Win Your Love for Me)” but I noticed on Spotify that it’s not streamed much. Crazy.

Something you may not know. That’s Junior Walker wailing away on his sax featured on Foreigner’s smash hit, “Urgent.” (That blistering solo still gives chills.) And Junior was featured with Sam Moore as “the Swanky Modes” in Bill Fishman’s cult comedy comedy, “Tapeheads.”

All hail Junior Walker!
