Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, Endorses Joe Biden and Kamala Harris: “Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT”

0

Let’s face it, the Rock– Dwayne Johnson– is the biggest movie star of this generation. He’s also a gigantic TV cable star. And now he’s endorsed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the presidency. He says: “Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT.”

It’s Johnson’s first ever political endorsement.

Oscars: Anthony Hopkins Gives a Master Class in “The Father” and Will Be Hard to Beat in Taut Psychological Thriller

0

When Florian Zeller’s psychological thriller, “The Father,” played on Broadway, Frank Langella had the part of Anthony, a man who was suffering from severe dementia and couldn’t differentiate what was real from his imagination. Langella won the Tony Award and the Drama Desk Award for Best Actor in a Play.

Now that Anthony Hopkins has stepped into the role for the movie, I’m at least consoled that Langella will get a Supporting Actor nomination at the next Oscars for “The Trial of Chicago 7.”

You do have to have a commanding actor to play Anthony, it’s not like he’s an award winning slam dunk. Hopkins, with five Oscar nominations, is as good as it gets. He’ll get a sixth nomination and could easily win Best Actor for this performance, which is so nuanced and rich, it’s kind of breathtaking. Just as in “The Two Popes,” last year, Sir Anthony delivers a master class in acting. You can’t take your eyes off of him.

Ditto for the two Olivias– Colman and Williams– the second part of the puzzle that makes “The Father.” When we first meet Anthony, we’re pretty sure he has dementia and maybe this is one of those tearjerking movies about having to deal with a deteriorating parent. But then the Olivias emerge, and so do questions about what exactly is going on here. Add to the mix two men who appear in Anthony’s flat who may or may not be married to Olivia Colman’s Ann: Rufus Sewell and Mark Gatiss. Zeller quite clever makes us feel as if we might have dementia ourselves.

Audiences should eat up “The Father” the way they loved “Get Out,” simply as a thriller that requires 100% attention. It may not have the racial undercurrent, but it’s sly enough that it transcends all genres. And Hopkins, who’s known forever as Hannibal Lecter, gets a rare second iconic role on his long, storied, resume.

Dennis Quaid Responds to Criticism About His COVID PSA: “I was not paid one penny for doing this interview”

0

Actor Dennis Quaid is not going to be cancelled by The Cancel Culture. An angry Quaid has posted a video to Instagram defending his PSA interview with Dr. Anthony Fauci about the importance of wearing masks and how the pandemic is going.

Yesterday a rumor grew out of control that Quaid had been paid a lot of money to help Donald Trump communicate his own success in the handling of the virus. Quaid says that it wasn’t a political PSA, and that he took no money for it. But this is how rumors mushroom. I’m glad that Dennis set us all straight!

The conversation between him and Fauci is on his podcast, called “The Dennis-ance.

Watch U2’s 20th Anniversary Video for Remastered Track “Stateless” from “All That You Can’t Leave Behind”

0

Okay, so way back in 2000, there was a dud of a movie called “The Million Dollar Hotel” that had a great soundtrack. U2 had a few tracks on it, including “Never Let Me Go” and “Stateless.” The latter, therefore, didn’t make it onto U2’s instant classic of an album that came out then called “All That You Can’t Leave Behind.”

But NOW the album turns 20 and is getting a big anniversary box set. “Stateless” has been remastered, given its own video, and will be in the box, along with a lot of other cool things. This has been a great box set season– McCartney, Stones, Elton, now U2.

Here’s the new “Stateless.” There’s a remastered video for “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out of It.” U2 makes me happy, like the Police, REM, and Pretenders, Squeeze and XTC.

Judging Amy: Trump’s Pick for Supreme Court Belongs to Non-Profit People of Praise: High Salaries and a $35 Mil War Chest

0

Today we are judging Amy Coney Barrett, Donald Trump’s extremely right wing religious fringe choice for a seat on the Supreme Court.

Much is being made of Barrett belonging to a group of Charismatic Catholics called People of Praise. They’re headquartered in South Bend, Illinois but have another robust branch in Minnesota. According to their federal tax returns, the two main branches have a total of $35 million in assets. That’s a lot of money for a small religious group.

What’s interesting is that in both of those branches, the amounts spent on salaries dwarfs any good the group might be doing giving grants to anyone. And it’s unclear where all the money is coming from into People of Praise. But we can see where it’s going.

The South Bend chapter claimed $16.5 million net assets for 2018. Of that, their salaries were three times the amount they gave away: just $540,333 in grants to someone, $1.433,218 in salaries.

The Minnesota group’s filing is much the same. They claimed $18 million in net assets. The group, in St. Paul, Minnesota (they spell out Saint on their tax form) gave absolutely NOTHING in grants in 2018 or even 2017. But they paid $431,000 in salaries to their staff.

Even better. The Vancouver, Washington branch claimed only a little over $1 million but almost all of it goes to salaries. None of it, of course, goes to grants. All three offices– South Bend, St. Paul, and Vancouver– claim huge office expenses, too. It’s not cheap being this religious!

As my grandmother used to say, Nice work if you can get it. And now a member of this group will go to the Supreme Court. We are disgracing the history of the Court.

Kanye Takes Presidential Campaign to Haiti, Because…Why Not? Says: “We are here to complete the revolution”

0

Kanye West took time out — from running for president of the United States and driving Vivendi executives crazy over ownership of his master recordings — to visit Jamaica and Haiti this week. Because, why not? If you’ve got the plane and the money you can just fly around North America, seem important, and accomplish nothing.

The president of Haiti, Jovenel Moïse, not realizing nothing will come from this, Tweeted:
“Kanye West’s visit is an opportunity for me to invite the African American community to get more involved in various investments in Haiti. Our country is the ideal place to promote universal culture. Haiti is Africa at the heart of America.”

Kanye Tweeted: “we are here to complete the revolution”

Wait til the cell phone number Kanye gave Moïse rings to a pizza place in Chicago.

Sting Announces Christmas Duets Album and New Hot Single with Rapper Gashi on “Tonight Show”

0

On Friday night’s Tonight show with Jimmy, Sting announced a new duets album due at Christmas time. It will comprise some duets from his heralded career and maybe a couple of new ones.

To that end Sting debuted a new single with rapper Gashi on which he’s a guest star, but frankly it’s very Sting and very catchy. Sting has been working with lots of different artists the last couple of years including Shaggy, and the results have been satisfying to say the least.

Sting also debuted a new sweater, which we all want to buy ASAP! Looks cozy while lightning flashes behind him in Tuscany.

Kanye West Spent Friday Putting Up About 40 Images Depicting Black Christianity without Comment

0

Perhaps taking a break from trying to up end the music industry, Kanye West posted about 40 images today around 8am Eastern time.

All the images are depictions of black Christianity.  The choices are random and without comment.

What does it all mean? We’ll have to wait for Kanye to explain, if he actually knows.

The pictures are certainly better than most of Kanye’s posts, and no captions makes it all the better!

After 37 Years, “General Hospital” Recasts Demi Moore’s Original Character with “NYPD Blue” Star Kim Delaney

0

Yes. it’s true. Demi Moore, movie star, got her start on “General Hospital” in the early 1980s. The character was called Jackie Templeton, she looked nothing like other soap characters– and didn’t sound like them with her sexy whiskey voice.

Now, 35 years later or so, Jackie is coming back to the soap. But not played by Demi Moore. (What ever happened to her?) No, Jackie will now be portrayed by “NYPD Blue” star Kim Delaney.

What happened to Jackie in all those years? She’s going to have a son in Port Charles, which will surprise everyone, including Kim Delaney, I’m sure. But Demi has kids that age, and it hasn’t done her any harm.

Meantime, according to reports, Emma Samms– who was also on the soap at that time — couldn’t return to reprise her original role because she’s been battling COVID. Get well soon!

Sales Bust: Donald Trump Jr’s Book, “Liberal Privilege” Drop to Number 535 on Amazon, No One Seems to Want to It

0

Nothing has “triggered” sales for Donald Trump Jr’s latest writing sample.

The feral son who seeks approval on a daily basis published a book called “Liberal Privilege” a month ago. It’s self published, so NPD Book Scan doesn’t cover its sales.

The result is that “Liberal Privilege” is now at number 535 on Amazon’s best seller list. While books by Bob Woodward, cousin Mary Trump, Michael Cohen, and others all stripping away the veneer of this dangerous mock presidency, the lone family cheerleader is not very popular.

“Liberal Privilege” isn’t even on sub-lists, like Books by Desperate Sons Who Might Go to Jail.

To be clear, no one seems to be buying that Donald Trump Jr. is selling.

Junior’s crazy, desperate interviews and speeches aren’t helping either.

This interview might have really done him in:
