TV: “Walking Dead” Audience Almost Competely Disappears, Falls Below 3 Million a Week

0

Why is “The Walking Dead” still a series?

With the last two episodes, the once ratings powerhouse has fallen to below 3 million viewers a week.

Last week registered a 2.89 million. The prior week was 2.73 million.

This tenth “season” of the series began in October 2019 and ends on April 4, 2021. There are 22 episodes. The first one, back in October 2019, scored 4 million viewers. The decline has been steady.

At the peak of its popularity, these Zombies and ugly humans were taking in 15 million viewers. That was in 2013-14.

But the bloom is off the rose, as they say. The zombies have flaked into nothingness. You would have to be hardcore to still care what happens.

There’s also a lot of competition. Tomorrow night at 9pm, Oprah will be grilling Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are fighting their own zombies. On the CW, there’s the Critics Choice Awards. And then there are 200 other channels.

We’ll see on Tuesday what tomorrow night’s ratings are. But an 11th season is supposed to start this summer. Why? I have no idea except that AMC has no other ideas for series.

Star Poet Amanda Gorman Says She Was Racially Profiled: “One day you’re called an icon, the next day a threat”

Amanda Gorman, National Youth Poet Laureate, became an overnight sensation at the Biden Inauguration. Her books flew to the top of amazon’s best seller list. She was on every talk show, hailed as a superstar.

Now Gorman says she she was racially profiled in front of her own home. She wrote on Instagram of the security guard who questioned her: “In a sense, he was right. I AM A THREAT: a threat to injustice, to inequality, to ignorance. Anyone who speaks the truth and walks with hope is an obvious and fatal danger to the powers that be. A threat and proud>”

This has to stop.

Longest Running “Young and Restless” Actor Doug Davidson: “I think I am done, treated like a day player after 43 years”

0

Doug Davidson, who’s played Paul Williams on CBS’s “The Young and the Restless,” is not happy. He’s rarely seen anymore on the long running soap. A couple of years ago there was an outcry from fans, and the show’s star, Eric Braeden, stepped in to support him.

But now on Twitter Davidson has responded to a fan: “I just want to thank you again for all your support. But I think I am done. After 43 years I am treated like a day player. No bueno.”

Asked whether he’d write a book, Davidson answered: “Naw. You already know it all.”

Davidson was last seen on the daily show on November 19, 2020.

Like so many things, Davidson’s situation doesn’t make sense. “The Young and the Restless” has lost over 1 million viewers over the last couple of years. The most recent full week ratings were 3.3 million average. Three years ago, the average was as high as 4.8 million.

Ironically, when the soap had to air re-runs last spring and summer because of the pandemic, many of the weeks were dedicated to Williams’ popular character and storylines from the past. It’s sort of like legacy rock stars who can’t get their new music played on radio stations that live on their hits.

PS Aretha Franklin loved “The Young and the Restless.” In the upcoming “Genius: Aretha” on Nat Geo, there’s a nod to the show, playing in the background during one scene from the 70s. It reminded me of when Michael Keaton’s character was caught watching the show in the movie, “Mr. Mom.”

John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place, Part 2” to Open May 28th, Maybe “The French Dispatch” Will Get a Date, Too

0

Almost the last thing I did before the world stopped was go to the premiere of John Krasinski’s “A Quiet Place, Part 2.”

That was March 8, 2020. Duck duck goose. Then the world came to a screeching halt.

“AQP2” has been moved around a bit since then. But now it’s got a release date: May 28th. It will go into theaters, I guess, and up on Paramount Plus streaming. It’s quite good, if I remember correctly. It’s an excellent middle movie in a trilogy, and sets up a Part 3 nicely. Emily Blunt kicks ass, Cillian Murphy is terrific, the kids are alright, and it’s very scary.

Now that Paramount has settled that problem, what’s next? Oh, yes. What ever happened to Wes Anderson’s “The French Dispatch”? Maybe Searchlight will give it a summer date. I feel like I saw it and forgot it already. No, seriously, let’s get this one going. Maybe for this year’s Cannes Film Festival?

Respect for Below the Line Set Decorators at Last as Aspire Design and Home Launches Awards for Movies and TV

Because of COVID, we’ve all been indoors thinking about what shows to watch and what decorating we may want to do. All those sumptuous sets in movies and TV shows. Who’s responsible for making it all look so delectable?

Perfect timing for the just announced ASPIRE Design and Home magazine’s “Best-Dressed Rooms in TV and Film Awards” which not only will be a TV awards show but the company behind it also has the largest group of show houses and will devote one to the winning productions.

Former CNN entertainment correspondent Jill Brooke, who runs flowerpowerdaily.com, created the idea and joined forces with ASPIRE Design and Home owners Steve Mandel and Amy Sneider.

For the first time ever, there will be a category honoring the Floral Artists in films and TV as well as the set decorators who often do the heavy-lifting and implementation of the designs. It’s about time!

Judges include set decorators Beth Kushnick (“The Good Fight,”) Lydia Marks, (“Sex and the City” movies) and Melinda Ritz (“Will and Grace,”) as well as decorators for celebrities such as Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan Seacrest, Robin Wright and Queen Latifah. Also adding their expertise: Jenny Tobin, the florist for over 20 Oscar and B.A.F.T.A.-nominated films, including “The Favourite,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Fantastic Beasts 1 and 2,” actor and director Chazz Palminteri, landscape architect Fernando Wong from Discovery’s “Clipped” and Tony and Emmy-award winning Derek McLane, who designed “Beautiful,” the Carole King musical, and “Moulin Rouge,” as well as 2014’s Oscars.

Categories in the competition include Best Contemporary and Best Period design, Cheap Chic Award, Best Bedroom, Best Hotel Room, Best Use of Outside Space, Best Use of Small Space, Best Costumes Enhancing Decor, Best Room to Evoke Nostalgia. Best Dining Room or Kitchen as well as Coolest Detail for Plot Enhancement.

The list of nominees includes “Bridgerton,” “Mank,” The Undoing,” The Queen’s Gambit, “Billions,” “Emily in Paris,” “One Night in Miami,” “The Crown,” “Malcolm & Marie” and “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.”

Here’s the Teaser for Our Favorite Netflix Show, “Lupin,” starring Omar Sy, Returning this Summer for Season 2

0

I love the thriller-mystery called “Lupin.” Who doesn’t? Isn’t it odd that two of our favorite shows are from France? (The other one is “Call My Agent.”) Anyway, also Netflix. Omar Sy stars in “Lupin,” which ended after 5 episodes with a big cliffhanger. The series will return sometime this summer with a fresh batch. I met Omar when he starred in “The Intouchables,” the hit French movie championed by Harvey Weinstein. “The Intouchables” is now on Netflix, too, if you need an Omar fix.

Swag City: “Genius Aretha” Gets the Prize for Best Promo Ever, Series Begins March 21st

As my grandmother used to say, You can’t beat this with a stick.

National Geographic TV win the prize for Best Promo ever. They’ve sent out a record player to promote “Genius: Aretha” which begins March 21st on their channel for 4 nights.

Cynthia Erivo is amazing as Aretha, and Courtney B. Vance is outstanding as her father, Reverend CL Franklin. There are many terrific performances. The music is over the top good.

But look at this thing: a Victrola, with bluetooth, and audio outputs. All customized for Aretha. The package comes with a coffeetable book and an LP from Atlantic Records of “Aretha’s Greatest Hits.” I just played it. The sound is wonderful.

We all Victrola’s back in the day. I didn’t realize they were a company. They have beautiful record players, etc on their website. Maybe their rep will email me at showbiz411@gmail.com. Once you see these things, you will be ready to buy one.

I hope Nat Geo or someone will make this package available for Aretha fans. It’s quite the souvenir. But I’m not surprised since Clive Davis was involved in it.

And Aretha on vinyl! What a sound! But you will not be disappointed by Erivo’s versions when you hear them. Aretha would be impressed.

Help Quarantunes This Sunday Hit $20 Million in One Year of Charitable Giving for An All Star Event

I don’t say enough about the Quarantunes fundraising Zoom calls going on for the last year. They are amazing.  Hundreds of people donate and participate every week. Mind blowing!

This Sunday, super agent Richard Weitz and his 17 year old daughter, Demi, will pass the $20 million mark with another fundraiser. This is for Heartbeats, and you can donate here.

Heartbeats is a group of socially responsible 9th through 12th graders that work to bring early awareness to teens about issues surrounding child abuse and family violence.

Richard and Demi, along with plenty of people who comprise their ‘village’– as in ‘it takes a village’– have done incredible work for the last year. They’ve raised $19.8 million for a variety of charities including MusiCares and Project AngelFood, all in service of helping people during the pandemic. They deserve some kind of Purple Heart or Medal of Freedom.

That they’re hitting that $20 million mark is quite a substantial achievement. By contrast, what have we done besides bake bread and binge watch Netflix?

Join the group this Sunday. Tape Oprah’s royal special, and put the Critics Choice Awards on the background. You won’t regret it. The celebs, especially the musical guests, who show up on Quarantunes are always shockingly outstanding! (They never tell you in advance who’s going to be on, but I’m never disappointed!)

PS Shout outs to record producer and music man Kerry Brown, husband of Stacy Sher– she’s co-producing the Oscars next month– and SiriusXM’s Tracey Jordan. They’re the Weitzes secret weapons, plus Clive Davis, Jimmy Jam Harris, and Sherry Lansing, whose face on the Zooms always gives me a smile!

Rudy Giuliani’s Daughter Announces She’s Polyamorous — Relationships with Couples — In the Most Public Way Possible

0

Donna Hanover must be prostrate on a fainting couch.

Her daughter, Caroline Giuliani, has announced in the most public way possible that she’s polyamorous, i.e. threeways with couples.

This is also Rudy Giuliani’s daughter. He must be prostate on a fainting couch.

While it’s brave of Caroline to embrace her sexuality, I’m not sure why she had to do it in Vanity Fair. Except that they — I hope — paid her a lot of money to write that piece. A lot. Please, Caroline, I hope it was thousands of dollars.

I mean, no one was asking about her private life. But what is a private life anymore? Especially when you can make some coin from it.

Her article is called “A Unicorn’s Tale: Three-Way Sex With Couples Has Made Me a Better Person.”

For Rudy, who was last seen in “Borat 2” coming on to a girl who he thought was a reporter from Kazakhstan, going into a hotel bedroom and playing with his, er, pants, the Guiliani’s definitely have sexual freedom in their jeans, er, genes.

But poor Donna. How much Xanax is there?

I’m not denying Caroline her life, or criticizing her choices. She owns it. She’s very happy. But there’s no such as being circumspect anymore. Her first sentence is “I want to watch my boyfriend bend you over”. She’s not holding back.

On Instagram, she says: “Shame around sex is my nemesis, so I wrote this @vanityfair piece about my sexual liberation! Link in story to the full article. 🦄 P.S. Happy belated national threesome day, which was apparently yesterday!”

I’m trying to imagine Rudy discussing this down at Mar-a-Lago or The Breakers in Palm Beach. Or at Four Seasons Landscaping.

Look, everyone should just be happy, live long and prosper!

New Pop: Drake, Nick Jonas, Bruno Mars Drop R&B Tinged Hits, Justin Bieber Song Lands with a Thud and Sounds Very Familiar

0

It’s actually a big day in pop. There are a bunch of new records, mostly very good.

Drake hit number 1 with “What’s Next” and he’s got two more on the chart to go with it. This is all in service of his upcoming album,

Nick Jonas dropped “This Is Heaven,” which he sang on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend, a very catchy dance pop hit.

Bruno Mars teamede up with Anderson.Paak and SilkSonic for a throwback 70s R&B number called “Leave the Door Open” that sounds fresh and original.

The only clunker in the group is Justin Bieber’s “Hold On,” another “I’ll be there to save you” anthem that is not very compelling. His fans didn’t have a good reaction to it. “Hold On” debuts at number 10 on iTunes, behind Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline” and Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me.” Yes, the last two are oldies. “Hold On” sounds very much like Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know.” Listen below.
