Fox News Didn’t Show This Video or Any of Tonight’s DNC Speakers Except Katy Perry

0

Bogus Fox News refused to show any of the speakers tonight at the DNC. Their viewers were denied so many eloquent stories and wonderful people– I hope somehow it can be conveyed to the people still watching Fox how they were censored. I feel particularly that Chris Wallace’s dad, Mike Wallace, a real journalist, is turning in his grave.

The only celebrity on stage shown on Fox was Katy Perry because it was a free shot to get a pop star who would otherwise never appear on their network. How does Britt Hume sleep at night?

Fox also didn’t air the 12 minute film made by Shonda Rhimes and narrated by Morgan Freeman. It was beautifully done. Here it is.

Melania Trump PRODUCTS Not Just Website Removed From Web, And from QVC

0

All of Melania Trump’s products are gone from the web.

Other outlets reported that www.melaniatrump.com was gone. The attributed that to Melania’s sketchy bio that claimed she had a university degree.

But the bio could have been altered or removed from the site and the products could have remained.

However, all of Melania’s products– jewelry and cosmetics– are gone from amazon.com and from QVC.com. This may have more to do with where the products were made (China) than the bio issue.

On QVC, where Melania was well known, a search for her tchotckes now redirects to Elizabeth Taylor merchandise.

(Watch) Ron Howard’s Trailers for “The Beatles– Eight Days a Week” Documentary

Ron Howard’s Beatles documentary about their short touring life, “Eight Days a Week.” is coming on September 15th. That’s the day the Beatles also release a revamped CD/DVD set of “The Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl.”

Here’s the trailer for Howard’s doc:

(Watch) Audra McDonald, Richard Kind, Idina Menzel Broadway Stars Triumphant DNC Performance

0

A Who’s Who of Broadway sang Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s “What the World Needs Now Is Love” tonight on the Democratic Convention. It was a total triumph. Watch the video and spot Audra McDonald, Richard Kind, Idina Menzel, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Ben Vereen, Rosie Perez, Lena Hall, Montego Glover, BD Wong, Darren Criss, and stars from all the shows knock it out of the park. That’s Carmen Cusack toward the end, she was the star of “Bright Star.” Also look for Tyne Daly and Sharon Gless’s “Cagney and Lacy” reunion.

Batman Franchise Takes a Hit as Sexualized “Killing Joke” Animated Film Drops 81% Second Day

0

Holy bat box office!

Warner Bros. opened “The Killing Joke,” an animated R rated Batman film on Monday and made $3.1 million.  Sounds good, right?

On Tuesday, “The Killing Joke” had its punchline: an 81% drop off from the day before, with just $600,000.

The audience was gone.

A 45 on Rotten Tomatoes didn’t help, but it’s worse. “The Killing Joke” is full of sex and violence. Batman and Batgirl have sex, reportedly. Last week, as fans filed out of a preview in New York, I asked them if that part was true. The fan boys came out of the screening heads in hands, nearly sobbing. They were not going back.

“The Killing Joke” is based on a graphic novel. Originally it was going to be released just on home video. But for some reason, someone at DC Comics got the idea they should put it in movie theatres for a couple of weeks. “The Killing Joke” hits DVD and Blu Ray on August 2nd. That’s a week from now. It’s going to be a long, long week.

Ex Fox News Chief Roger Ailes, Unbowed, Has Lunch in Public with A Woman Who Still Likes Him (His Wife)

0

Michael’s on a Wednesday in the summer? Who’ll be there? Anyone?

Oh yeah. Best table in the house, front right corner by the window: former Fox News chief Roger Ailes, disgraced after his ouster over sexual harassment allegations from a variety of women, and a lawsuit from former anchor Gretchen Carlson.

But hey–that’s how you declare you’re still alive. Ailes, ever the strategist, dined with a woman who still likes him– his wife, Elizabeth Tilson, looking very “Mad Men” in a creamy white dress and bouffantish hairdo. Ailes was dressed in a grey suit. They looked like they could have been waiting for Don Draper and Roger Sterling.

My lunch companion was the estimable David Schulhof, an old friend from Miramax who now runs the music part of Stuart Ford’s IM Global. Stuart’s another ex-Maxer, and as with almost all alumni from the heyday of “Shakespeare in Love” and “Good Will Hunting,” very successful. They finance a lot of movies and TV projects.

If you’d drawn a diagonal line from the Ailes table through ours, you would have hit tabloid journalist and professional Michael Jackson mud-thrower Diane Dimond. We didn’t speak, naturally, and I was brave enough to sit with my back to her. Luckily man about town Euan Rellie was catty-cornered between us just in case knife throwing occurred.

Yes, you could have called this meal “No One Here Gets Out Alive.” It was a rare moment, too, because owner Michael McCarty and host Steve Millington were each on the floor, the whole staff was in, the iced tea cubes were crackling and the cobb salads were flying. I thought I’d wandered into “Game of Thrones.” or “High Noon.”

Across from our table sat attorney Alan Mnuchin, whose brother Steven is the head of finance for the Trump campaign, whatever that means. At the table to my left, Jeanine Pirro, former US district attorney, and Fox News commentator. She did not say hello to Ailes.

“Were you harassed?” I asked, to which she shook her head no and left. Could be I was harassing her. She was too kind to say.

Into the fray: Julian Niccolini, owner of the now closed Four Seasons restaurant. He shook hands with everyone. He has no place to go at lunch for the first time in 40 years. “He was here last week, too,” an observer said. Also spotted: another former Fox Newshound Bill McCuddy, as well as NY Social Diary stalwart David Patrick Columbia and Jimmy Finkelstein, owner of TheHill.com, who you thought would have been in Philadelphia for the Democratic Convention since The Hill covers politics. (This would be like the editor of Variety going to Pittsburgh during Oscar week.)

Celebrities helped cut the tension in the room: At the vacant table along the wall next to the Aileses came Oscar winner Sir Michael Caine and his long time agent and friend the legendary Boaty Boatwright of ICM. Whew! Across from the them arrived Kathie Lee Gifford, looking like springtime, with an older lady friend who was channeling the late Carrie Donovan.

Program note: It was pretty loud in a room where almost no one was speaking to each other.

Second program note: Ailes walked out holding his decidedly taller wife’s arm to keep steady.

And to think, most days I work through lunch with salad from Lennys!

Annette Bening in “20th Century Women” Chosen by New York Film Fest as Centerpiece Screening

0

It’s really going to be Annette Bening’s year in film. She stars in Mike Mills’ “20th Century Women” which has been chosen as the centerpiece screening of the New York Film Festival. It will screen on October 8th.

Bening co-stars with Greta Gerwig, Elle Fanning and Billy Crudup.

“20th Century Women” is directed by Mike Mills– not the Mike Mills from REM, but the one who directed two terrific films, “Beginners” with Christopher Plummer and “Thumbsucker,” a comedy everyone should check out on Amazon or wherever. He’s married to Miranda July, a novelist who also made a charming film called “Me and You and Everyone We Know.”

Bening is also featured in husband Warren Beatty’s “Rules Don’t Apply.” By my count she’s been denied the Oscar twice, for “American Beauty” and “Being Julia.” This might be her year. So far we’ve got Meryl Streep in “Florence Foster Jenkins,” Helen Mirren in “Eye in the Sky” and maybe Anna Gunn in “Equity.” But we’ve got a lot more coming including Viola Davis in “Fences,” Lupita Nyong’o in “Queen of Katwe,” and lots of question marks.

Edward Snowden’s Ears Must Be Burning in Russia– He’s Mentioned in Two Movies Opening this Weekend

0

Famed hacker and leaker of government secrets Edward Snowden’s ears must be burning. He’s mentioned in two movies opening this weekend.

Indeed, he’s only mentioned but sort of turned into a plot point in “Jason Bourne.”

You see, with China and Russia now becoming movie audiences– and sending millions of dollars back to Hollywood– those countries can no longer be our enemy in spy thrillers.

Instead, hackers have become the enemy– or people with access to malware. In “Jason Bourne” there is much discussion of Snowden as the hack in the movie is said to be much, much worse.

In “Equity,” a terrific indie film opening with Anna Gunn, a “privacy company with a social network” called Cachet is vulnerable to hacking. Again, the discussion is that “after Snowden” anything can happen.

Of course, fugitive Eddie is the subject of Oliver Stone’s film “Snowden,” in which he’s played by Joseph Gordon Levitt. “Snowden” has been selected for the Toronto Film Festival, after which it will be distributed by Open Road.

And let’s not forget that only two years ago, in 2015, “CitizenFour,” Laura Poitras’s film about Snowden, won the Oscar for Best Documentary.

DNC Answer to Scott Baio, Ex-Soap Actors: Meryl Streep, Lena Dunham, Debra Messing, America Ferrara, Alicia Keys

0

It’s going to be very different tonight at the Democratic convention, as opposed to the RNC.

The RNC, you may recall, offered Z list celebrities Scott Baio, Antonio Sabato Jr., and an actress who was a villain on a soap opera.

Every artist whose music was used complained about lack of permission.

The DNC kicked off with no less than Paul Simon performing one of the great songs of all time, “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”

Tonight, Alicia Keys will perform at the end of the night. Before she takes the piano bench, there’s a steady stream of A listers.

The DNC has Meryl Streep, the Greatest Living Actor in the World. Then they’ve got a bunch of smart female actors including Debra Messing, Lena Dunham, America Ferrara and the amazing Elizabeth Banks.

They also have the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Michael Brown.

And of course Bill Clinton.

Nate Parker’s “Birth of a Nation” is already set for the first Friday, I’m told.

The new Mira Nair movie, “Queen of Katwe,” starring Lupita Nyong’o, will premiere on Saturday, Sept. 10th.

All together, a great selection. Should be exhausting!

Keep refreshing…
