Rocker Peter Wolf Memoir: Roman Polanski Hosting 13 Year Old Natassja Kinski, Nicholson and Dunaway Sealing “Chinatown” Deal

0

Rocker Peter Wolf was the heart and soul of the J Geils Band in the 1970s.

After having smash hits with “Centerfold” and “Freeze Frame” in 1980, Wolf went out on his own with more hits like “Lights Out.”

He was the real deal rock star. All through the 70s he lived with actress Faye Dunaway in Boston and Hollywood.

Now Peter has written a memoir, which he calls a book of vignettes.”Waiting on the Moon” will be published Tuesday. Wolf does write all about his Hollywood experiences via Faye, almost as if he were detached from the memories. He  maintains a surprisingly non judgmental attitude throughout.

But there it is, in the middle of the book, the story of Faye, Jack Nicholson, and Roman Polanski making the classic “Chinatown” in 1973. (It was released in June 1974.) There are disagreements, a lot of coke, and many wild parties.

At one point, Wolf and Dunaway visit Polanski in a guest house. And the guest was Natassja Kinski, the actress and model and daughter of Klaus Kinski. By Wolf’s recollection, Natassja would have been 13 years old at the most, more likely 12, if his facts are straight.

Wolf writes:
Faye spoke to him in French, and just as they began a lengthy dia-
logue, a beautiful young woman appeared from the other room. Bare-
foot, she had thick light brown hair down to her shoulders and was
dressed in a diaphanous white nightgown that exposed her youthful,
delicate body. She, too, spoke French. I assumed it was Roman’s daughter as she sat on the floor next to him…

The young woman, transfixed, staring at Faye with doe-eyed admira-
tion, got up, hugged Roman goodnight, and left. He then told us that the girl, Nastassja, was the daughter of actor Klaus Kinski and was in Los Angeles for tutoring as well as dancing and acting lessons while preparing for her first film role. He added, “Klaus has not been much of a father.”

Not long after, Wolf and Dunaway go to a party at Jack Nicholson’s house.

Wolf recalls the other guests “drifting away.”

He writes: Jack invited Faye upstairs to work on
the script, and Faye asked if I would mind waiting. I answered, “Of
course not.”
When a half hour became an hour, and then another, I called up the
staircase— “Faye?”— but got no reply. I continued to wait in the living
room.
Finally, as I saw the sun coming up, it occurred to me that what I
thought might be happening was definitely happening.

Wolf calls a cab and while he’s waiting throws a lot of furniture in Nicholson’s pool including a glass table piled high with coke. A year later Wolf and Dunaway nevertheless embark on a tempestuous five year marriage, much of which took place in Boston (where I happened to be at the time– they were the talk of the town!). Fighting, infidelity, and divorce follow.

“Waiting on the Moon” reads like the flip side of Julia Phillips’ “You’ll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again.” It’s a chronicle of Hollywood and the rock world at their most dizzying, with scores of cameos from the most famous celebrities of that time. The book should be number 1 with a bullet when it’s published next week.

PS There’a going to have to be a Volume 2, because the book makes no mention of Dunaway’s Oscar in 1976 for “Network,” or even what happened to Polanski in 1977. Stay tuned…

Gayle King, Katy Perry Urged Not to Go Up, Up and Away After Musk Spaceship Explodes on Take Off

0

So…

Gayle King and Katy Perry are being pleaded with by fans.

I must agree with everyone. These two ladies should not go up in Jeff Bezos’s rocket ship.

Not after today’s debacle as Elon Musk’s SpaceX sent a rocket up, up, and away only to watch it explode into a million pieces.

The other ladies set for Bezos’s trip include his fiancee, Lauren Sanchez, an actual scientist, and a couple of women with rich husbands. They can make their own decisions.

Katy Perry does not want to become like her song, a “Firework.”

And my friend Gayle would really miss a lot of great music shows after she’s scattered over the Atlantic. Plus, Oprah would really miss her.

Let’s get a grip and have NASA do the space trips with real astronauts and scientists. Musk and Bezos could spend all that money ending hunger around the world.

Lady Gaga Delivers Mesmerizing Dance Pop “Mayhem” Sophisticated, Delirious Return to Rowdy Roots

0

Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem” is about to set records.

Gaga’s 7th album is full of hits, tasty dance pop hits that return her to her origins but with incredible sophistication.

We can get into the trenchant lyrics tomorrow. But “Mayhem” is an album you will want to own, not just stream. There’s just too much great stuff going on.

We know “Abracadabra” and “Disease,” not to mention “Die with a Smile.” But immediate impact singles will be “Garden of Eden” and “Perfect Celebrity.”

Most of the songs are written by Gaga with producer Andrew Watt sometimes in collaboration with Henry Walter and in many instances with fiancee Michael Polansky. We know she wrote the foundations of each song, and they reflect delirious abandon. Boy do we need that right now!

Mixing bits of Blondie, Madonna, the Eurythmics, Siouxie and the Banshees, Gaga has come up with the kind of album that will keep everyone dancing from beginning to end. And wait til you hear the penultimate song before “Die with a Smile.” The gorgeous ballad “Blade of Grass” is Gaga’s Song of the Year. Bet on it now.

“Mayhem” is so stacked with hits, it will still be in heavy rotation next January when it wins all the Grammy awards.

All Star Love Rocks Show: Cher, Peter Frampton, Beck, Michael McDonald, Many More Raise Millions for NY, LA Food Donors

0

It’s 11:47pm and the Love Rocks all star show at the Beacon Theater is still going on. It began at 8pm. Beck is on stage, following a complete non sequitur show stopping dance set from Cher after two and a half hours of pure premium rock and soul. (She’s quite amazing._ We still haven’t reached the point of diminishing returns.

Still, this four hour show, streamed also on Veeps.com where you can still see it, is one for the books. I’ve seen plenty of Love Rocks shows raising money for God’s Love We Deliver in NY and Project Angel Food in LA. But this one was a consistent triumph without a single dull moment.

The list of performers was huge. Peter Frampton performed solo and then with Trey Attanasio and 18 year old guitar phenom Grace Bowers. She channeled Carlos Santana and looked like 1976 Frampton. Amazing. Their version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is now a classic.

One by one each act outdid the previous one. Even Bill Murray was pretty cool singing. Who’d a thunk it?

Some other highlights: Jesse Malin, who can’t walk but managed to stand to sing two songs. Eric Burton of Black Pumas. Alicia Keys. Michael McDonald was brilliant, especially when he featured Mavis Staples. Plus an all star band led by Will Lee with the best musicians in New York.

Most poignant moment: actor Steve Guttenberg, speaking from the heart about the LA fires.

Download the Veeps app. Pay $25 and watch this show while you can. Most enjoyable concert ever!

The show is still going on at midnight…

Come back tomorrow for pics and video…

Lady Gaga’s “Mayhem” Album Already No 3 in US, No 10 in UK Five Hours Before First Release

0

Lady Gaga’s new “Mayhem” album is number 3 on Amazon in the US

It’s also number 10 on the Amazon UK best seller list.

And this is before it’s released at 7pm in Britain and midnight in the US.

Back orders are huge. When the release embargo lifts, look for fireworks.

The album — with some very good advance reviews — contains two Gaga hits, “Die with A Smile,” and “Abracadabra.”

Gaga appears on Saturday night as guest host and musical guest on “SNL.” By Sunday, she may have sold over 500,000 copies, especially if her musical performance is incendiary. We can only guess that it will be memorable.

Come back at midnight for updates.

Whoopi Goldberg May Be First of Kennedy Center Honorees Who Won’t Return Now That Trump is Chairman

0

On “The View” today, Whoopi Goldberg announced that she will not return to the Kennedy Center while Donald Trump is chairman.

She was responding to the news that “Hamilton” will not play there in 2026.

Whoopi received the Mark Twain Prize in 2001 from the Kennedy Center.

She said, “I have no plans to go back to the Kennedy Center until the Kennedy Center becomes what it was supposed to be, and that was a welcome place for all artists, no matter what your groove is.”

Goldberg may only be the first of many past honorees who won’t return until Richard Grenell and the sudden new directors are removed. She didn’t say it, but among other things Grenell’s group has no Black members.

Trump swore that the new Kennedy Center will not be “woke.”

The Kennedy Center Honors artists committee in the past sent in recommendations for new inductees in April. The announcement is usually made in May or June.

But now all bets are off for many potential candidates who’ve been waiting to be selected. They would include, among others, Denzel Washington and Liza Minnelli.

Just a couple of years ago, the “Hamilton” creators were inducted because of the show’s startling genius. That they’ve bowed out is significant because in the past — even during the first Trump term — “Hamilton” was a big money maker for the Center.

Who’s next to say ‘no’ to the Kennedy Center? Stay tuned…

“Succession” Creator’s HBO Movie Starring Steve Carell Has No Title Yet So the Content Isn’t Revealed

0

“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong is filming an HBO movie fast, fast, fast.

The just announced project is shooting now in Park City, Utah. It stars Steve Carell as Randall, Jason Schwartzman as Hugo Van Yalk (Souper), Cory Michael Smith as Venis and Ramy Youssef as Jeff.

No title has been revealed because that would give away the plot. But considering “Succession” was about the Murdoch family, this movie will probably be loosely based on the billionaires currently taking over the US. The logline says the fil will follow a group of “billionaire friends” who “get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis.”

The movie is set for airing on HBO and MAX this spring, to keep current with news headlines. I do think it’s going to sting, whatever it is.

JFK Grandson Jack Schlossberg Asks RFK Jr’s Wife Cheryl Hines to Apologize to Family Of Dead Child (Video)

0

Irreverent JFK grandson Jack Schlossberg has a favor to ask of his cousin’s wife.

Jack wants actress Cheryl Hines, married to Robert Kennedy Jr, to make a phone call to the family of the Texas child that died of measles.

RFK, of course, is the conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer who now runs the Department of Health and Human Services.

Jack wants Hines — whose name he spells Heins (original spelling? something to do with Ketchup?) — to make the call because RFK made little of the death at a hearing.

Kennedy called the measles outbreak and the death “not unusual.”

The child died in West Texas on February 26th.

In the last couple of days, Kennedy has had to reverse his anti-vax stance and tell the public they must get the measles vaccine. “I recognize the serious impact of this outbreak on families, children, and healthcare workers,” he posted on Twitter. “The measles outbreak in Texas is a call to action for all of us to reaffirm our commitment to public health.”

Schlossberg regularly takes jabs at various members of the Trump world on social media. He mocks JD Vance, his wife Usha, and others all the time. He cannot curb his enthusiasm, which is a good thing.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Voting Lagging Way Behind 2024 Nominees, with Phish in the Lead

0

Fan voting for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is way behind this week last year.

This year’s number 1 vote so far is for Phish. But they’re lagging behind 2024’s number 1, Ozzy Osbourne, by around 34,000 votes.

The gaps grow wider as you go down the list. Mariah Carey, for example, has half as many votes as she did last year at this time.

Is this apathy? Or do fans not know they can vote their choices?

My choices — Chubby Checker, Cyndi Lauper, Joe Cocker, Soundgarden, and Bad Company — are doing well.

But there may be frustration with the Rock Hall that non-rock acts like Carey and Outkast are even listed when so many actual rockers aren’t there. Also even some rock acts — Oasis, Joy Division, and Billy Idol — seem a little on the fringe when you realize a performer like Sting doesn’t have individual membership. Tommy James? The Monkees? Lou Reed? Grand Funk Railroad? Jethro Tull?????

2025 Nominees as of this week
Phish: 164,849 votes
Billy Idol: 100,385 votes

Look Back: National Board of Review Got Almost Everything Wrong Regarding 2025 Oscar Winners

0

Now that awards season is over, let’s take a look back at the kooky National Board of Review.

They got just about everything wrong this winter regarding the eventual Oscar winners. This might be useful for next time around.

The NBR — run by one woman, Annie Schulhof — would have been escorted out of the casino if she’d placed her bets this way.

Schulhof gave Best Picture to “Wicked.” The Oscar winner was “Anora.”

Best Actor and Actress went to Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, respectively of “Queer” and “Babygirl.”

The Oscars went to Adrien Brody and Mikey Madison.

Schulhof got one acting prize right– Kieran Culkin also won the supporting actor Oscar for “A Real Pain.” But in supporting actress, she chose Ellen Fanning for “A Complete Unknown.” The Oscar went to Zoe Saldana for “Emilia Perez.”

The NBR’s Best Director was Jon M. Chu for “Wicked.” Chu wasn’t nominated for an Oscar.

Her screenplay awards went to “Hard Truths” and “Sing Sing.”

The Oscars — “Anora” and “Conclave.”

“I’m Still Here” won the Oscar for Best International Film. Schulhof went with “The Seed of the Sacred Fig.”

Schulhof’s top 10 films overlapped with just four of the Oscar top 10.

The “Wicked” awards were to get Universal to pay for tables at their annual gala. The “Queer” and “Babygirl” awards could be attributed to having an executive from A24 on the NBR board.

Even with the lean in for A24, Schulhof made a big mistake. She totally ignored “The Brutalist,” and gave it not a mention. So Brody, who won many Best Actor awards elsewhere, and director Brady Corbet, got nada from them. It could be that in the horse trading, Schulhof took Kidman and Craig, and sacrificed Brody and his movie.

She also got documentary wrong, going with “:”Sugarcane.” She totally ignored “No Other Land.” Not even chosen for top docs.
