No Heroes Here: The Kardashians Lied to Forbes About Kylie Jenner’s Billionaire Status, and Forbes Loved It

0

‘m not surprised that they are now at the center of their own controversy about Kylie Jenner, the Kardashians, and Kylie’s billionaire status.

The fact is, Forbes is now unmasking their own bad reporting. They’ve published an article that contradicts their original piece, from 2019, declaring Kylie Jenner “the youngest billionaire” in the world.

What the new article fails to admit is that Forbes started all this in the first place. Their reporter, Natalie Robehmed, is gone from the magazine and relegated in the new piece by Chase Peterson-Withorn (Malcolm Forbes would have loved that byline) and Madeline Berg an “additional reporting” credit. (On her Twitter page, Robehmed id’s herself as “freelance journalist mostly working in audio, formerly @Forbes.”)

Robehmed seems like she was the one duped by the Kardashians about Kylie Jenner’s billionaire status. But didn’t it make sense? Kylie, 21, with no education, no wherewithal of any kind, a fashion model more because of notoriety of her awful family than any real talent, a billionaire? Sure, why not. Forbes loves to make proclamations about celebrities’ worth and they willdy miss the mark most of the time. There’s no reporting in the piece. They just took Kylie’s word for it.

Now comes along Peterson-Withorn and Berg. You can only imagine that since the March 6, 2019 piece a lot of people in the cosmetics world have questioned the original story.  Rather than wait for someone else to reveal Kylie’s lies, and face embarrassment for allowing it all to happen, Forbes jumps into the fray with a proactive story: Inside Kylie Jenner’s Web of Lies. The story is NOT subtitled “How Kris Jenner Duped Us and We Allowed It.”

After assigning blame for the miscalculation of Kylie’s success to WWD (Womens Wear Daily) and anyone they can think of, th new writers conclude: “The business was never that big to begin with, and the Jenners have lied about it every year since 2016—including having their accountant draft tax returns with false numbers—to help juice Forbes’ estimates of Kylie’s earnings and net worth. While we can’t prove that those documents were fake (though it’s likely), it’s clear that Kylie’s camp has been lying.”

Really, no kidding. We could have told you that in the first place.

The writers sum it up: “Forbes has recalculated Kylie’s net worth and concluded that she is not a billionaire. A more realistic accounting of her personal fortune puts it at just under $900 million, despite the headlines surrounding the Coty deal that seemed to confirm her billionaire status. More than a third of that is the estimated $340 million in post-tax cash she would have pocketed from selling a majority of her company. The rest is made up of revised earnings based on her business’ smaller size and a more conservative estimate of its profitability, plus the value of her remaining share of Kylie Cosmetics—which is not only smaller than the Jenners led us to believe but is also worth less now than it was when the deal was announced in November, given the economic effects of the coronavirus.”

One thing is clear: chasing the Karsdashians to boost PR and circulation backfired for Forbes spectacularly.

As for the avaracious, attention seeking family of glamorous grifters: this news, plus their falling ratings on their idiotic TV show, point to maybe at long last an end to their run as supermarket tabloid stars trying to pass as substantial entities.

Henry Cavill Doesn’t Cavil, He’s Coming Back as Superman/Clark Kent, and Dropping Hints the Size of Kryptonite Chunks

0

Yes, Henry Cavill is coming back as Superman/Clark Kent. And he doesn’t cavil about it.

Henry has left three Instagram messages the size of Kryptonite chunks. First, he talked about a chat he had with Zack Snyder about the director’s infamous “Justice League” cut, coming in 2021. Then he posted a picture of himself in the gym. And then there’s his dog, Kal, named for Superman’s birth name, Kal-El. What more do you need? Will his return be more than just the “Justice League” reboot? I think so. He’s a great Superman. All he needs is a terrific “Man of Steel” script. And who doesn’t love the rest of that cast, starting with Amy Adams?

Another K Pop Bust in the US: After Gaming iTunes and Lots of Hype, Suga’s “D2” Mixtape Debuts at Number 9

0

It’s another bust for KPop in the US.

The second solo album from Suga, a member of Korean pop boyband BTS, fizzled on the US charts this week. “D2,” listed as a mixtape from Suga’s pen name Augst D, sold just 37,750 copies. It finished at number 9 for the week.

Min Yoon-gi is the real name of the 27 year old singer, who has two stage names. As usual with BTS and KPop, there’s a huge amount of hype and no real interest in America. Last Friday, “D2” debuted on iTunes at number 1, which is meaningless, and several of its singles dotted the top 50 in the iTunes singles chart.

But it was all suspect, as usual. The singles got no radio play, and no one knew what “D2” was. In short order, the whole thing fizzled. A week later there are no singles in the top 100 and the album is number 20.

This follows BTS, the main band, which is certainly popular in Korea, and in various countries, but really has no major following the US. Their most recent album, released April 2019, has sold 700,000 copies, with 400K of those actual sales and the rest streaming.

Here’s the single, “Daechwita,” which translates into “$$$$”:

Telluride Film Festival is a “Go” for September 3rd in Colorado Mountains, But Will Stars, Execs Make the Trip?

0

The Telluride Film Festival has decided to press on despite the pandemic. They’ll begin one day early, on September 3rd, to give everyone a chance to find chic enough masks to wear in the Colorado Mountains.

Telluride is a very private festival. They don’t announce their film list until you’ve plunked down a considerable amount of money. This is one festival where you pay for your press pass, and it’s expensive. Everything there is expensive, including the hotels and the airfare. But the upside is intimate private time with the stars and makers of films that may go on to win the Oscar.

Will all the players come this year? I’ll bet they will, simply because of a summer of boredom. Will they get sick? Some will say it would be worth it. Good luck to them. But I suppose the town of Telluride needs the revenue, so one way or another there’s got to be a festival. The dates, by the way, overlap with Venice and precede Toronto.

The New Yorkers and Hollywooders who fly into Telluride should know that Colorado has not been spared from the pandemic. The Rocky Mountain State has had 23,964 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 1,327 deaths so far.

Here’s the full Telluride statement:

From the very beginning, the founders of the Telluride Film Festival declined to call it an “annual” event. Like most things with the SHOW, this was intentional. There was an understanding that life is indeed full of uncertainty. Maybe there wouldn’t be a festival every year…and it has made each eventual Labor Day celebration that much sweeter.

We see clearly the obstacles that are cruelly, tragically and stubbornly in our way this year in orders of magnitude our dear founders might not ever have envisioned.

But there has been a determination to proceed, in large part fueled by the voices in our community. This community understands that movies really are empathy machines, that when we assemble to witness the glories of cinema together, something magical happens. We humbly suggest that our world needs the light of cinema and its beautiful by-products of compassion and emotional storytelling alchemy like never before.

We are not ignorant of the devastation facing the world. We feel the fear and distress too. This is why we are committed to observing all guidance as suggested by the consensus of voices of the scientific community with whom we are consulting now. This will not be a business as usual event. Things will look and feel very different.

We’re contacting you today to let you know we’re hard at work to provide a safe and joyous environment that will include an extra day to allow more space within and between screenings, along with all of the necessary safety tweaks and adjustments you’ve become very familiar with, regardless of where you call home.

The festival will begin Thursday, September 3, instead of Friday, and will end on Monday, as usual. We will have a charter from New York City, in addition to our usual charters from Los Angeles, to ensure easier and more controlled transit for our East Coast friends.

Your comfort and safety are the most important things to us. A defining characteristic of our community and especially of the dedicated volunteers who bring you the SHOW, is remarkable willpower – and grit. We promise to marshal these qualities to create the most secure environment possible for all of us.

For those of you who opt to not join us, we absolutely understand and support this decision. Your reasons surely involve heightened personal health concerns and you must do what is the very best for you. We trust and hope you’ll be back with us the next time we can provide optimal conditions for the SHOW. May that be soon.

In the meantime, we will let you know additional and specific information in the coming weeks.

For every gesture of support you have shown us, we thank you — very, very much.

FIAT LUX!

Great News! “Law & Order” Star Tamara Tunie, Actress, Producer, Named Carnegie Mellon University Trustee

Well, on a bad, bad day here’s some really nice news.

The wonderful Tamara Tunie, star of “Law & Order” and “As the World Turns,” has been named a trustee by Carnegie Mellon University.

There isn’t a nicer, more talented, achieving person in the world, and she deserves all kudos. I am really thrilled for her.

Tamara is a familiar face to TV audiences. For years, she played the medical examiner, Dr. Melinda Warner, on “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” and attorney Jessica Griffin, on the daytime drama “As the World Turns.” For many seasons, she overlapped on the two shows, and on two different networks.

She also appeared on “NYPD Blue” and the first season of Fox’s “24.” She has also guest-starred in many other television series, including “Sex and the City,” “The Good Wife” and “Better Call Saul,” among others. On the movie screen, Tunie most notably played the key supporting role of Margaret Thomason in “Flight.”

Tamara graduated from Carnegie Mellon in 1981. In addition to all those acting credits, she is also a tireless producer and activist for the theater in New York. Tamara really is a force of nature. She can do anything. For example, she most recently sang Charlie Chaplin’s “Smile” during CMU’s Virtual Conferral of Degrees ceremony on May 19. She just hosted the show below:

Nice guys finish first! Many congrats to Tamara!

Lady Gaga’s Chart Onslaught Colored by a Surprise Release of Britney Spears’s 4 Year Old Track, “Mood Ring”

Lady Gaga’s mood ring has to be colored a little muddled right now.

She’s got a major album release with “Chromatica.” On Thursday she had the number 1 and 2 singles before the album dropped and also hit number 1.

But on iTunes the number 1 single today is not by Lady Gaga. It’s from Britney Spears, of all people. “Mood Ring” is a four year old track that was only available on the Japanese version of her 2016 album called “Glory.” Her fans always wanted it released or included on the US version of “Glory,” but it didn’t happen.

With no new Britney records coming, RCA decided to give “Mood Ring” a spin. And it worked. Britney’s fans pushed it to number 1, and “Glory” to number 40 on the album chart.

The week of May 1st, “Glory”– which has a new “cover” for its digital version — sold just over 1,000 copies after doing nothing for years. The following week, it sold around 600 copies. Last week, it sold 304. Numbers are from Buzz Angle.

“Mood Ring,” written by DJ Mustard, is actually very catchy. We could do worse. I doubt it will run at number 1 very long, but it’s nice for Britney, who’s kind over the hill at this point. Maybe this will give her the confidence to make a new record.

Jack Steps Up: Twitter Puts Trump On Notice for Tweet Encouraging Violence Against Minneapolis Protesters

Twitter — Jack Dorsey– has finally stepped up. They’ve put Donald Trump on notice for his Tweet overnight encouraging violence against Minneapolis protesters.

Trump wrote: “These THUGS are dishonoring the memory of George Floyd, and I won’t let that happen. Just spoke to Governor Tim Walz and told him that the Military is with him all the way. Any difficulty and we will assume control but, when the looting starts, the shooting starts. Thank you!”

Twitter added, in blue: “This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about glorifying violence. However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.”

This is now a war between Trump and Twitter, and all social media as witnessed by last night’s clearly unconstitutional Executive Order. And this is only the beginning because Facebook and its creator, Mark Zuckerberg, are squarely in the middle of this. So far Zuckerberg has failed his customers in what seems like support of Trump. The wave of sentiment against Facebook could grow stronger in just a short time.

Trump Police State: CNN Reporters Arrested on Live TV by Minneapolis Police, Later Released, Governor Apologizes

0

In the midst of rioting and the burning down of a Minneapolis police station, CNN reporters were arrested live on the air this morning covering the scene.

The reporters, CNN correspondent Omar Jimenez, producer Bill Kirkos and photojournalist Leonel Mendez, were detained by police after clearly showing their IDs to police.

An official statement from the Minnesota State Police reads: “In the course of clearing the streets and restoring order at Lake Street and Snelling Avenue, four people were arrested by State Patrol troopers, including three members of a CNN crew. The three were released once they were confirmed to be members of the media.”

CNN responded on Twitter: “This is not accurate – our CNN crew identified themselves, on live television, immediately as journalists. We thank Minnesota @GovTimWalz for his swift action this morning to aid in the release of our crew.”

Jimenez, after his release, reported live outside from downtown and said he’d been treated cordially after he’d been led away. “We’re doing OK, now. There were a few uneasy moments there,” Jimenez said.

Watch below. Don’t think for a minute this was a “mistake.” This is Trump’s police state. It was intentional and it’s just the beginning. We have cities on fire, we have 100 thousand people dead from a pandemic, the economy is falling apart. and we have an insane president who is breaking the law and inciting violence.

Lady Gaga’s Great New “Chromatica” Has One Problem: Song “Babylon” is VeryClose to Madonna’s “Vogue”

0

This is going to be ugly.

Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica” is full of terrific dance songs, it’s a visit to Studio 54 in its glory.

But the final song, “Babylon,” might as well be by Madonna. It sounds just like “Vogue,” including the spoken word part. Madonna is going to have a fit. Her fans are going to go crazy. And a new war begins.

Years ago, Gaga’s “Born this Way” was compared to Madonna’s “Express Yourself.” The fans turned it into a war worthy of Game of Thrones. This will be the case again.
