UPDATED Kanye West Used His “Presidential Announcement” as a Lure to Sell Merchandise Online This Afternoon

0

Kanye West’s “presidential announcement” wasn’t followed up on Instagram with more information about his important campaign to make America great again.

No, the next Instagram post from Kanye was for a sale this afternoon of his crappy merchandise. That’s what the Saturday proclamation was all about. Get rid of t shirts and other junk no one wants all labeled “2020 Vision.” Kanye’s vision is money.

Does anyone wear his sneakers and so on, footwear? It looks incredibly uncomfortable. If you do, please drop a line to showbiz411@gmail.com. Good reviews are welcome!

“Hamilton” CD Soars Back to Number 1 on iTunes, Sells More Copies Over Weekend than It Did Last Week

0

“Hamilton” is on Disney Plus so we’re never going to know how well it’s doing, or did on its first weekend of streaming.

But we do know what’s happening with the CD, which should be some indication.

On Friday and Saturday, the “Hamilton” soundtrack sold over 20,000 copies. Sunday should have added another 10,000.

That’s more copies than it sold in all of last week leading up the DisneyPlus release. Last week, “Hamilton” sold 24,000 copies.

The highest selling Broadway score of all time, “Hamilton” has already sold 350,000 copies since January 1st and at least 3.4 million since its release in 2016. Kudos to Pete Ganbarg and Atlantic Records for snatching up the rights the minute they saw it!

Also on the iTunes chart is the “Hamilton Mix Tape,” on Sony Music, at number 11.

Nick Cordero’s Wife, Amanda, Writes About His Tragic Death: “My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him”

Amanda Kloots, Nick Cordero’s devoted wife, has posted a long, sad message to Instagram following her husband’s death. She writes:

“God has another angel in heaven now. My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth.

I am in disbelief and hurting everywhere. My heart is broken as I cannot imagine our lives without him. Nick was such a bright light. He was everyone’s friend, loved to listen, help and especially talk. He was an incredible actor and musician. He loved his family and loved being a father and husband. Elvis and I will miss him in everything we do, everyday.

To Nicks extraordinary doctor, Dr. David Ng, you were my positive doctor! There are not many doctors like you. Kind, smart, compassionate, assertive and always eager to listen to my crazy ideas or call yet another doctor for me for a second opinion. You’re a diamond in the rough.
⠀⠀
I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for the outpour of love , support and help we’ve received these last 95 days. You have no idea how much you lifted my spirits at 3pm everyday as the world sang Nicks song, Live Your Life. We sang it to him today, holding his hands. As I sang the last line to him, “they’ll give you hell but don’t you light them kill your light not without a fight. Live your life,” I smiled because he definitely put up a fight. I will love you forever and always my sweet man. ❤️”

He really was beloved, a great great guy who had hundreds of people he didn’t even known pulling for him. UPDATE Kanye West’s Presidential Candidacy Announcement Unexpected Result: Kills Sales of His Music

0

We thought maybe Kanye West’s announcement that he’s running for president would help his music sales.

Alas, it’s had the opposite effect.

Overnight, Kanye’s latest single, “Wash Us in the Blood,” dropped from number 2 to number 27 on iTunes. It has yet to show up on an Apple Music chart. On Spotify, the single has just under 9 million streams, which adds up to very little in actual sales.

None of Kanye’s albums bounced back onto the charts. Not one.

The overall reaction to Kanye’s announcement is not a showing of mass support by…anyone…except Elon Musk. And we’re not  sure about him, are we? His cars have a tendency to explode.

But Elon and Kanye seem to have had some kind of recent meeting. On Instagram, Kanye captioned a photo of them together and called the eccentic entrepreneur “my boy.” He’s glad they’re each wearing orange. He’s forgotten that Orange is the New Black.

What would a Kanye cabinet look like? Kim K as Attorney General, natch. Travis Scott as vice president. Mike Dean, Secretary of State. And the rest he could just sample from previous administrations. The only administration would be an interpolation.

Why Not? Kanye West Says on Twitter and Instagram He’s Running for President This Year, 2020

Because things can’t get much weirder, Kanye West says he’s running for president NOW in 2020.

He writes: We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States

An avowed Trump supporter, Kanye could be having a manic depressive episode. Or really mean it, this weekend. Who knows? We’ve learned not to take anything he says too seriously. He does have a new Christian album coming out soon, and a new single on the charts, so maybe it has something to do with that. I guess we’ll see.

BTW “Wash Us in the Blood,” Kanye’s new single, has so far sold only 4,700 copies. Streaming numbers bring it up to 30,000.

John Legend Sales Disaster on New CD “Bigger Love” with Just 13K CDs, Downloads, Bob Dylan Drops 74% 2nd Week

0

It was not a good week for real music on the pop charts.

John Legend has had a sales disaster with his “Bigger Love” album. The problem is, there’s no single. Legend is obviously talented and charismatic. But no one guided that album for an audience. He can do so much better.

“Bigger Love” has now sold a total of just 13,200 CDs and downloads according to AlphaData/Buzz Angle Music. With streaming counted in, “Bigger Love” has sold the equivalent of 33,000 copies.

For its second week, “Bigger Love” fell off the top 50 completely, gone. Guhbye. Without a tour, there’s no way to revive it. It’s not like “Bigger Love” had no marketing. There was plenty of attention in the press and on TV. But there was nothing to latch onto. For his next project, John has to have some interesting collaborations, and some hooks to the songs.

Columbia Records suffered also with Bob Dylan’s highly praised “Rough and Rowdy Ways.” Here’s a GREAT album but marketing options are limited. Still, Bob did a NY Times interview, he had lots of press. The album has sold just over 60,000 copies, with little to no streaming. Dylan’s planned summer tour would have pushed sales to 100,000 but that can’t happen. Sony can still concentrate on “I’ve Made My Mind Up to Give Myself to You” as a single, maybe even do a video of like minded artists singing it.

Meanwhile, the good news for Sony, I guess, is that Beyonce’s “Black Parade” has streamed enough to make 99,000 in sales. It’s not huge, but it’s something. The question now is whether “Black Parade” will turn up on Beyonce’s imminent “visual album” for DisneyPlus, and if there will be a companion CD, and if it will be on Sony, which so far hasn’t been mentioned in Beyonce’s press releases.

Columbia Records’ big story for the week was the revival of Harry Styles’ “Fine Line” album with sales of 32,000 up 6% from last week. “Fine Line” is top 5 now, after drifting away. “Fine Line” has sold 145,000 copies in CDs and downloads, but with streaming the number is a whopping 775,000. Styles’ tour was sold out but had to be cancelled. A lot of money, effort, and time have been put into making Harry Styles a Big Pop Star. He may be the Last Pop Star. But it’s working. We must give credit where it’s due!

Sony awaits

Steve Perry of Journey Warns Politicians from all Parties: No More Playing “Don’t Stop Believin'” at Rallies

0

Steve Perry, the raspy voiced former lead singer of Journey, has a message for politicians of all parties: Stop Believin’!

Perry posted to Twitter last night: “As one of the songwriters of Don’t Stop Believin’, I have not given permission to any political candidate to use this song!”

Perry wrote the song with Journey band members Neil Schon and Jonathan Cain. Schon immediately replied to Perry’s claim.

“Huh .., funny when I tried to stop it before a couple of years ago management told me you and Lee Phillips didn’t want to mess with it…@NealSchonMusic so what makes it different now ? I’ve been outspoken about it before that I don’t like our music used for anything political but at the time I was told by Managnent the Steve and his Atty Lee Phillips didn’t want to do anything.”

Cain, a born again Christian and likely Trump supporter, hasn’t responded.

Fans were split. Some were thrilled and told Perry to sue, along with the Rolling Stones, to stop Trump. Others, the Journey fans I suspected were in the majority, were upset with Perry for involving “their band” in politics.

But Perry’s insistence is likely more financial than political. Once a song becomes closely identified with a political campaign, as in the case of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop” for Bill Clinton, radio stations remove it from playlists for a long time. It winds up costing the band and songwriters a lot of money. Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin'” is a radio staple made famous again on “The Sopranos.” Perry doesn’t want to jeopardize his income stream.

Maybe Trump can change the words to “Oh Sherry” to “Oh Donald.” That might work!

Even better: wait til Trump loses in November and play “Who’s Sorry Now?”

Disgraced DefJam Records Founder Russell Simmons Backs Louis Farrakhan, Doubles Down on Pariah Status After Rape Accusations

0

Russell Simmons has doubled down on his pariah status. He’s basically self-exiled in Bali, escaping charges of rape.

Now Simmons, whose life in the US is basically over, has endorsed Louis Farrakhan, head of the Nation of Islam, on the eve of his speech to America on Saturday on Sean Comb’s RevoltTV. For Simmons to publicly back Farrakhan now is almost a concession that he knows he can’t ever return to his old life in America. He’s backing an avowed anti-Semite, who runs a hate group, and backs hate. Certainly, Simmons’ can’t his success in life came from supporting Farrakhan. Simmons’ life has culminated in disaster. Everything is gone, from his interests in music and comedy businesses to his philanthropic Rush foundation.

All the yoga and meditating in the world can’t mitigate what Simmons posted on Instagram from Bali: “People have hated me and criticized me for bringing this great Minister to speak to and mentor the hip hop community… to awaken the cultural elite, so they could empower the masses. Well i lost a few dollars and a few blind friends, but im proud and honored to have raised so much truth through this beautiful man. I never been a punk and i am proud that i never let them pressure me and their many threats fell on def ears. I’m one that never backed down I will take that to my grave and my God!!!”

Meantime, an HBO documentary about Simmons and his accusers outlines his alleged behavior.
