BAFTA Nominee Jamie Lee Curtis Skipping Awards in London Because of “Fires and COVID”

0

Jamie Lee Curtis is skipping a trip to London next month.

Curtis says she’s not going to the BAFTA Awards on February 16th because of “the fires and COVID.”

The Oscar winner is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for “The Last Showgirl.” Her competition includes Ariana Grande for “Wicked,” and Selena Gomez and Zoe Saldana for “Emilia Perez,” as well as Isabella Rossellini for “Conclave,” and Felicity Jones secured a nod for portraying Adrien Brody’s wife in ” The Brutalist.”

Curtis has a good shot at winning, but she’s also up for a SAG award on February 23rd. It’s not so much fun to fly back from LA to London, even on a private plane!

Rupert Murdoch Reversal of Fortune: Apology to Prince Harry Second Stunning Legal Setback in 30 Days

0

Thank goodness publisher Rupert Murdoch has lived long enough to suffer two big defeats.

They came in within a month of each other.

But you won’t read or hear about them on Fox News or in the NY Post.

Today, Murdoch had to settle a phone hacking lawsuit with Prince Harry. It’s a total embarrassment. The 93 year old had to apologize to Harry publicly for harassing not only the Prince but his late mother, Diana.

This is sweet revenge for Harry, whose life has been turned upside down by the British press.

That’s not Murdoch’s only big loss. Last month, his effort to change his family trust was denied by a Nevada commissioner.

Rupert — in a move straight out of “Succession” — thought he’d leave son Lachlan totally i charge of his media properties and cut out his three other adult children. It didn’t work.

The 96 page report was brutal, accusing Rupert and Lachlan of acting in “bad faith.” Now, when Rupert dies — which could take up to 10 years, James, Prudence, and Elisabeth can help dismantle the far right wing flood of lies that has been the cornerstone of Fox News for decades.

This was not about money. It was about ideology. The three other siblings are far more centrist than Lachlan. James has worked hard to make himself part of normal society, and not an enemy of intelligent people.

As for the NY Post, who knows what will happen when Murdoch finally shuffles off this mortal coil? Would it survive without fictitious scandals and invasive reporting? (And frankly, we would all miss it, wouldn’t we?)

Here’s the apology again:

It’s a beautiful thing when Rupert Murdoch is made to account for his horrific actions.

But that’s what’s happened. You’ll read below Murdoch’s apology to Prince Harry for hacking his phone.

Murdoch also apologized to Harry for all the trauma he caused Princess Diana.

It’s unclear how much money received yesterday from Murdoch in the settlement of the phone hacking case — or whether it was just the sweet admission that Murdoch’s reign of terror against the royal family has finally been acknowledged by the billionaire himself.

“After endless resistance, denials and legal battles by News Group Newspapers, including spending more than a billion pounds in payouts and in legal costs (as well as paying-off those in the know) to prevent the full picture from coming out, News UK is finally held to account for its illegal actions and its blatant disregard for the law,” said a statement read outside the court Wednesday on behalf of Prince Harry and the British lawmaker who brought the suit with him. “The truth that has now been exposed is that NGN unlawfully engaged more than 100 private investigators over at least 16 years on more than 35,000 occasions. This happened as much at The Sun as it did at the News of the World, with the knowledge of all the Editors and executives, going to the very top of the company.”

Trump Repeats Same Lies from a Year Ago About Beverly Hills Water Usage and “Rich People” Taking Showers

0

Today, Donald Trump repeated the same lies and fiction he made up a year ago about water usage in Beverly Hills.

Trump insisted that Beverly Hills limits water usage to 38 gallons per person per day.

In fact, the suggested goal is 80 million.

CNN fact checked the orange buffoon last year when he said something similar.

He also said today, like last year, that 38 gallons isn’t enough for rich people to take a shower.

What is he talking about? He doesn’t know. But MAGA loves this bloviating, spewing of made up crap. Because of them. we’re going to have 1,500 days of this coming up.

Trump TV Ratings Down 9 Million from Biden 2021, Middle Aged and Young People Tuned It Out

0

The Trump MAGA base did not turn out in droves for yesterday’s inauguration.

In fact, yesterday’s ratings were down 6 million viewers the 2021 numbers for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Total viewers across 15 networks was just 24.59 million, down from Biden’s 33.7 million.

Trump’s 2017 numbers were 30 million, which he means he lost to himself yesterday.

Young people did not watch the proceedings, they tuned it out. According to Nielsen, 17.4 million viewers were 55 and above, 4.67 million were 35-54 and 1.43 million were 18.34.

Of course because it was a right wing installation, and older viewers, Fox News got the most eyes. CNN and MSNBC did little business. In 2021, when Biden came in, it was the reverse.

All of this makes perfect sense. Trump’s audience skews older — he’s frightened them, but of course today he essentially raised prescription drug prices for Medicare, reversing Biden’s huge strides in making drugs affordable. Trump has conned his constituency into believing he’s on their side.

But younger people, meaning anyone from 18 to 54, knew better. So they ignored this whole miserable event.

Today was Day 2 of Trump destroying the country, raping the land, and denying people all over the world basic human rights. Unless, of course, you watch Fox, where he’s a hero.

RIP Garth Hudson, 87, Last Remaining Member of Influential, Historic Group, The Band

0

Garth Hudson has shuffled off this mortal coil. He was 87.

Garth was the last remaining member of The Band. Robbie Robertson died last year, and they were pre-deceased by Levon Helm, Rick Danko, and Richard Manuel.

Featured with Bob Dylan, and also in Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Waltz,” The Band’s hits include “The Weight,” “Up on Cripple Creek,” “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down,” “The Shape I’m In,” and so many more. Their album, “Music from Big Pink,” is one of the best of all time.

Hudson’s passing is sad news. An era has ended for good. But their music lives on and on.

John Mayer, Dave Matthews, Mick Fleetwood, Noah Kahan Head All Star Musicares Salute to Grateful Dead

0

A strong line up is ready for the January 31st Musicares/Grammy tribute to the Grateful Dead in Los Angeles.

This Person of the Year dinner will also be a fundraiser for music professionals affected by the wildfires.

Of course, it also raises money for musicians with all kinds of needs apart from the fires, too.

This all happens two nights before Trevor Noah hosts the Grammy Awards on CBS, Sunday February 2nd.

The music roster is top notch: Performers include Zac Brown, Stewart Copeland, Mick Fleetwood, Sammy Hagar, Bruce Hornsby, Norah Jones, Wynonna Judd, Dave Matthews, John Mayer, Maren Morris, Lukas Nelson, Billy Strings, The War On Drugs, Vampire Weekend, and Dwight Yoakam, along with GRAMMY Award nominees Sierra Ferrell, Noah Kahan, Maggie Rose, My Morning Jacket, and The War And Treaty.

Don Was will lead the in house band.

For some reason, Andy Cohen is hosting the night. You don’t think of him as a Grateful Dead fan, but life is full of surprises!

“Music has the power to heal and comfort,” says Harvey Mason jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares. “This year’s gala honoring the Grateful Dead will not only provide a moment where music people can reunite and support one another in the wake of the devastating fires in Greater Los Angeles but together can provide funding for our community in need. I look forward to standing with the MusiCares team and all our guests for an impactful night.”

Tables and tickets are available for purchase at http://personoftheyear.musicares.org/. For more information about the event please visit  www.musicares.org or email personoftheyear@musicares.org.

Carrie Underwood Trump Performance Yields No Sales on Amazon, a Few on iTunes

0

Carrie Underwood’s bizarre performance at Trump’s inauguration has had mixed results.

On amazon, there have been no sales of albums. Not a single one is in the Top 100.

Over at iTunes, five albums have hit the top 100, but not in any kind of major way. They’re all low on the chart.

Nothing’s happened to boost Underwood’s biggest hit, “Before He Cheats,” her most appropriate song for Trump.

This month, Carrie has sold 17,261 albums almost all from streaming. Actual sales is 1,666. Not great.

What a weird moment yesterday when Underwood was announced. First nothing happened. Then a nano second of pre-recorded music. This was followed by Underwood picking up her microphone a la Barbara Harris in Robert Altman’s “Nashville.” (The Trump like politician has just survived an assassination attempt.) She just started singing, and invited people to join her in “America the Beautiful.” Her voice wobbled at first until she found some equilibrium.

Underwood has been criticized for singing for Trump who — following his swearing in — wiped out the White House arts and culture commission, also stands against DEI, trans kids, the climate, and abortion.

He’s also been found guilty in the Stormy Daniels hush money trial, with 34 felony convictions.

Justin Bieber: Johnny Cash Break Up Song May Indicate Trouble in Paradise for Pop Star and Wife

0

Something’s going on in Bieber world.

According to reports, he’s stopped following wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber on Instagram. Likewise, she isn’t following him.

He includes almost no pictures of the couple on his page. She has none of him on her page.

This is the way you know what’s going on in 2025, by the way.

Yesterday he posted pictures of himself smoking pot through a bong, dressed as Zorro. When the pictures first went up, they were accompanied by Johnny Cash singing “There You Go.” The song begins: “You’re gonna break another heart, you’re gonna tell another lie.”

The song has since been removed from the post. The pair just had a baby. Maybe Justin’s feeling a little excluded. Maybe Trump broke them up in an Executive Order.

The full lyrics do not indicate a happy situation.

You’re gonna break another heart
You’re gonna tell another lie

Well, here I am and there you go, you’re gone again
I know you’re gonna be the way you’ve always been

Breaking hearts and telling lies is all you know
Another guy gives you the eye
There you go

There you go
You’re gone again
I should’ve known
I couldn’t win

There you go
You’re by his side
You’re gonna break another heart
You’re gonna tell another lie

Because I love you so, I take much more than I should take
I want you even though I know my heart is going to break

You build me up and for a while I’m all aglow
Then your fickle heart sees someone else
There you go

There you go
You’re gone again
I should’ve known
I couldn’t win

There you go
You’re by his side
You’re gonna break another heart
You’re gonna tell another lie
