“Hey, Judge” Jeanine Pirro Missed First Segment of Live Show Last Night, Appeared “Lit” When She Was on Air

0

Let’s just ask the question everyone else has on social media since last night: Was Jeanine Pirro bombed on last night’s live show?

The Fox News show host missed the first segment of her live show last night on Fox News. The reason given was “technical difficulties.” When she did appear on air, Pirro seemed more subdued than usual, a little glassy eyed. But she persevered.

It wasn’t until her third segment that Pirro really seemed “wasted,” like maybe she’d had a cocktail or two in between segments. Her hair was askew and she started to bob around. Her guest, Lisa Booth, in that segment seemed to know what was going on, and kind of yelled at the judge to get her attention. Look below when Booth greets her with “Hey Judge!”

In the fourth segment, Pirro really unwound. She seemed to be doing a parody of Cecily Strong’s “Saturday Night Live” parody of her.

Well, it was Saturday night, and we are in a crisis, and in the end Pirro didn’t say anything more outrageous than usual. Most of her small viewing audience is already in bed, dozing off, or drunk themselves.

UPDATED: Famed Jewish Delicatessen Nate n Al’s of Beverly Hills Insists They’re Not Closing Forever, But Who Knows What’s Going On?

0

MONDAY UPDATE: Nate n Al’s says they are not closing forever and that the media got it wrong. Well, they should have explained themselves up front. They didn’t. They left it up to speculation and rumor.

Here’s their statement: An updated statement from Nate’n Al’s: “The media has incorrectly reported that Nate’n Al’s is “gone forever.” As we originally stated, we couldn’t fully guarantee the safety of both our customers and employees for take-out and delivery during this pandemic we have chosen to cease that service. Our current lease is expiring shortly and we have encountered major difficulties with the city of Beverly Hills who would have been our new landlord on Canon Drive. It is the intention of the current ownership to get through this crisis like every other restaurant and make the right decisions at the right time. Our goal is to keep the Nate’n Al’s tradition alive.”

SATURDAY Nate ‘n Al’s will close on Sunday after 75 glorious years of pastrami, corned beef, and tuna melts. Not to mention the fries.

The Beverly Hills establishment was supposedly saved by investors two years ago including music manager Irving Azoff. They were supposedly moving it around the corner to a new location.

Not a swanky place by any means, Nate ‘n Al’s was a success in two regards: comfort food, and people watching. Larry King used to eat breakfast there every morning, and there were plenty of other celebs who filled the room in search of a knish. Plus the staff was always welcoming.

Jerry’s Deli is gone. Duke’s Coffee Shop is, too. This leaves Canter’s on Fairfax. And Factor’s. Losing Nate ‘n Al is not just about the food, but it’s about the culture of Beverly Hills, where a hot pastrami sandwich and cole slaw could exist side by side with Prada and Armani and other over priced, over the top stores. Next they’ll come for the Brighton Coffee Shop, and then we’ll just hang it up.

Here’s what they posted:
To all our Customers:

Approximately one month ago the world as we knew it changed.
We had hoped that we could continue our take out and delivery service so that we could provide the community with the food that has been a part of our lives for years. However, our number one priority is to keep our customers and our staff safe and secure during this time of uncertainty.
After reviewing all the variables, we no longer feel confident that we can do that. It is with great sadness that we will be closing our doors for all business as of tomorrow, Sunday, March 29th at 8 pm.

Thank you all for being a part of the Nate’n Al’s family and a special thank you to our employees who have worked tirelessly to be here so that we all have continued to have our favorites available!

We don’t know what the future holds but we urge everyone to do your best to stay home and stay safe.

Sincerely,
Nate’n Al’s

Sad News: “All My Children” Star Actor John Callahan Dies from a Stroke, Age 66, Was Married to Actress Eva LaRue

0

Really sorry to hear this: actor John Callahan, a really welcome presence on “All My Children” from 1992-2005, has died of a stroke.

His ex-wife, Eva LaRue, with whom he co-starred on the show, posted an announcement to Instagram. He was 66.

On “AMC,” the Callahans played Edmund and Maria Grey. Callahan appeared on other soaps, and was a regular on the nighttime CBS hit, “Falcon Crest,” in the 1980s. I remember him well. He was a very good actor, unafflicted by soap opera scenery chewing. He had a very natural quality, which was what kept him on the show for 13 years.

Callahan and La Rue divorced in 2005, and have a daughter. Condolences to them.

May Flights of Angels Wing You to Your Rest my Dear Friend. Your bigger than life, gregarious personality will leave a hole in our hearts forever. We are devastated-My great friend, co parent partner, and loving father to Kaya. That big belly laugh, bear hugs, bad puns, ability to harmonize to any song, great kitchen table singing-fests, and two steppin bad ass! “Johnny Numbers”, my All My Children soap stud, the great time keeper, Beatles fanatic ( I wish to God we could go back to “Yesterday”)… Kaya and I are beyond broken hearted, so stunned, sorry that my thoughts are a mess. You gave the best most beautifully written tributes, and I am at a complete loss for words right now for you. I hope Heaven has baseball and that your team always wins! Website Flower Power Daily Offering Prize for Interpretation of David Hockney’s New Painting, “Do remember that they can’t cancel spring”

0

Or can they?

One of our favorite websites, FlowerPowerDaily.com, is offering a cash prize for the best interpretation of David Hockney’s new painting, “Do remember that they can’t cancel spring.”

The 82-year-old British legend, who now lives in Normandy, was inspired to create this painting which features bright yellow daffodils in front of a grey dotted mass.

There will be three categories for our esteemed judges. A $100 prize for Most Optimistic, Most Realistic and Most Original. There will also be a separate kid’s prize.

Please send all entries to nancy@flowerpowerdaily.com.

The deadline is April 25th.

Flowers teach us about resilience and how beauty always exists if you look for it. They remind us that even in the darkest times, flowers bloom.

This period facing the coronavirus will certainly inspire priorities and perspectives. Including an appreciation for family, nature and togetherness.

It is not surprising that Hockney chose daffodils as his subject. In the language of flowers, the daffodil is not only the trumpet of spring but symbolizes rebirth, new beginnings and hope.

It is also a flower associated with health.

David Geffen is Toughing it Out in the Grenadines on A Yacht the Size of a Small Country

0

David Geffen is very charitable, there’s no question about it. The man who gave us the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, dated Cher, and put his name on Avery Fisher Hall has given away a lot of money. So why should he suffer? His Instagram account is closed, but it has 87,000 followers. A lot of them have re-posted his post card from the Grenadines, where he’s sitting out the virus on a yacht the size of Venezuela. I’m sure he has great company, he always brings the best guests. Long may he run! Remember, living well is the best revenge! No judgments! In fact, can I come? Where do I pick up the launch, or whatever they call it? Or do I just copter down onto the landing pad? From what I’ve read, they can accommodate 16 guests at least on the Rising Sun, and there’s a staff of 45.

In honor of David, a great new wave record from 1979 on Nick Lowe and Elvis Costello’s Radar Records:

Jimmy Fallon and the Roots LIVE from Their Homes: Very Charming Version of “Stuck in the Middle with You”

0

My favorite segments from Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” are the acoustic musical numbers with kids’ toy instruments. Last night, Jimmy and the Roots put together the most charming version of Gerry Rafferty’s “Stuck in the Middle with You” from their respective homes. I could listen to this all day. Jimmy does a great Rafferty, may he rest in peace.

CBS Soap Shocker as “Young and the Restless” Deposed from Number 1 Spot For First Time Since 1988

0

Talk about daytime drama!

CBS’s “The Young and the Restless” has been the number 1 soap opera since 1988. It’s been an extraordinary run. But now it’s over.

For the week of March 16-20th, CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful” toppled Y&R and took the number 1 spot. Yes, that’s an old fashioned soap opera courtroom gasp you just heard.

“B&B” literally leap frogged over the show by adding 405,000 viewers from the prior week. “Y&R” lost 249,000 from the prior week but more importantly, 1,163,000 viewers left the show year to year.

Even more bad news: in the 18-49 category, “Y&R” fell to third place, behind “B&B” and “General Hospital.”

This is significant because the other two soaps, like “B&B,” added viewers that week, robustly. This was the beginning of the virus panic, with more people home during the day. But virus updates were also cutting into the schedule. Each of the shows was pre-empted at least one day by news, and cut into on other days by updates.

The trouble at “The Young and the Restless” is very bad. It has been for a couple of years, but it’s just gotten worse lately. There’s no central story. The main actors– Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott, Peter Bergman, Eileen Davidson– are never on. Long term actors like Doug Davidson, who’s got the longest tenure– are complaining on social media about their absence. The audience has obviously responded.

Granted the soaps got a raw deal this winter with the whole impeachment business interrupting their schedule. But three of the four shows have clawed their way back. Only “Y&R” has drifted away, with the producers and writers refusing to listen to the audience.

This should be a wake up call to CBS and Sony TV. It’s time to restore “Y&R” to its root characters and stories, or the party is going to be over. It may already be over.

Numbers courtesy of Soap Opera News:

Total Viewers
1. B&B 3,620,000 (+405,000/+61,000) <——- first time #1
2. Y&R 3,445,000 (-249,000/-1,163,000)
3. GH 2,471,000 (+365,000/+130,000)
4. DAYS 2,089,000 (+242,000/-39,000)

Ringo Starr Moves His 2020 All Starr Band Dates to 2021 Because, You Know, It Don’t Come Easy

0
Ringo Starr — well, just Ringo to us– knows it don’t come easy. He tours every year with his All Starr Band of top notch musicians. But the 2020 tour, which was supposed to begin on May 29th, has been put off for a year.
Ringo’s band includes this stellar line up: Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Gregg Rolie, Warren Ham, Gregg Bissonette, and Hamish Stuart.
“This is very difficult for me,” said Ringo, “in 30 years I think I’ve only missed 2 or 3 gigs nevermind a whole tour.  But this is how things are for all of us now, I have to stay in just like you have to stay in, and we all know it’s the peace and loving thing we do for each other.  So we have moved the Spring tour to 2021. My fans know I love them, and I love to play for them and I can’t wait to see you all as soon as possible. In the meantime stay safe. Peace and Love to you all.”
In the meantime, we can listen to Ringo’s most recent album. It’s really good.

Here are the rescheduled Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band Spring 2021 Tour Dates, alongside the original:

Pop: The Weeknd Scores A Debut Week Twice the Size of Justin Bieber, Beating BTS for 2020’s Biggest Debut

0

We’re about  90 days into 2020, and the biggest debut of the year so far is here. The Weeknd’s “After Hours” scored 445,000 copies sold including streaming.

That’s the biggest debut of 2020, beating BTS by about 20,000 copies. It’s also roughly double what Justin Bieber sold of his “Changes” album.

The Weeknd also has several hit singles from “After Hours,” all in the top half of the charts. And this is interesting: The Weeknd’s sales were more than half in CDs and paid downloads. Streaming was secondary. The Weeknd’s fans want to own this music, not just access it passively.

The Weeknd also made mincemeat (can you still do that) of Childish Gambino’s badly released new album called “3.15.20” or “We Don’t Know What We’re Doing.” The Donald Glover aka Gambino album could not have been handled more poorly.

Former One Directioner Niall Horan’s second album “Heartbreak Weather” fell from 4 to 47, it’s over. What happened? Capitol is not connecting with the One Direction audience or even Harry Styles’. Horan doesn’t wear lipstick and fishnet stockings. He’s just a solid singer-songwriter. But he needs marketing, and fast.

Emmy Awards Order No Campaigning Events, Still Plan for September 20th Airdate with A Few Changes to Eligibility and Voting

0

The Emmy Awards will not be stopped. They are still on track for September 20th barring any more unusual events.

However: there will be no campaigning events. So forget buffets and Q&As for your favorite shows during the voting period. I’m actually curious to see how the networks get around this. The Television Academy won’t even allow virtual get togethers. No events. Period.

Let me tell you, the Emmys may be the first group gathering in six months. The Hotels and restaurants in Los Angeles will be back. It should be quite a comeback.

Sooooo….here are the changes in eligibility:

Modification of Hanging Episode Rule (Series and Limited Series)
Due to production and programming delays, the Academy has extended the eligibility date for “hanging episodes” to June 30 (formerly May 31).
Series eligibility: To qualify for eligibility in the current eligibility year, the series must have premiered by the end of the eligibility year (May 31, 2020). If the series has one or more episodes that fall into the subsequent eligibility year, those episodes must be broadcast or posted on an accessible platform by June 30 to gain eligibility for the current eligibility year. A minimum of six eligible episodes is still required to qualify for series eligibility.
Limited Series eligibility: To qualify for eligibility in the current eligibility year, the limited series must have premiered by the end of the eligibility year (May 31, 2020). If the limited series has one or more episodes/parts that fall into the subsequent eligibility year, those episodes must be broadcast or posted on an accessible platform by June 30 to gain eligibility for the current eligibility year, provided the complete limited series is made available by the June 30 deadline. If those episodes/parts are not able to be broadcast/posted by June 30, then the complete limited series, along with the individual achievements, will be eligible in the subsequent eligibility year.
