Dig It: Tom Cruise Laughing Hard and Saying Nothing Gives Rare 30 Minute Video Interview, No Mention of Family, Personal Life, or You Know What

Tom Cruise is very charming, but says little in a 30 minute interview with GQ.

He’s promoting his movie, “Digger,” and the magazine has put him on the cover of all their editions.

What doesn’t he talk about? Friends, family, religion. For example, his only =biological child is going into acting and he doesn’t speak to her. We could start there.

The whole piece hinges on smiling and laughing a lot, and saying absolutely nothing.

If GQ is happy, we’re happy. But — it’s naive, I know — I am gobsmacked about how complicit the the journalist and the magazine are in simply letting Cruise use them, and vice versa. Will this bring in views or sell magazines? Will it sell movie tickets? What it will get is a mention on Entertainment Tonight. “Tom Cruise speaks.” I’ve heard Mitch McConnell say more.

Bob Dylan Dropping 31 Hour, 39 CD, 371 Unreleased Tracks of “Rolling Thunder Live” Box Set in November Featuring Joan Baez, 50th Anniversary of Tour

Bob Dylan never fails to entertain or surprise us.

So on November 6th he’s dropping a 31 hour 39 CD box set of “Rolling Thunder Revue Live.”

It’s the 50th anniversary of the second leg of the famed Rolling Thunder Revue tour. Track listing is coming. Of all Dylan releases, this is by far the most extensive. It also may set a record for the number of CDs in a box (we have to check that). I’m actually surprised it’s priced to go at $159.99.

The 2019 box set from the first leg of the tour was 14 discs. There was a previous and more succinct 2002 release called “The Bootleg Series Vol. 5: Bob Dylan Live 1975, The Rolling Thunder Revue.”

At this point, there must be people with whole rooms dedicated to Bob Dylan releases. If there is a picture of a such a setting, please email it to showbiz411@gmail.com.

“The 39-disc box set captures all professionally recorded shows from the 1976 second leg of the legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour, all from original tape sources. The box includes 381 tracks, 371 of which have never been released, plus a booklet with liner notes by Mikal Gilmore and rare photographs.

“The second leg of the legendary Rolling Thunder Revue tour saw Dylan welcome old friends and collaborators to his troupe. Dylan reunited with Joan Baez to perform a moving set of duets across many dates, including performances of “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Railroad Boy.” Dylan’s band included bassist Rob Stoner, violinist Scarlet Rivera, drummer Howie Wyeth (who had all worked on the chart-topping album Desire), guitarists Mick Ronson (of David Bowie’s Spiders from Mars), Steven Soles, David Mansfield and T Bone Burnett.”

This release follows the original “Rolling Thunder” CD release from 2008 as well as subsequent official bootleg recordings.

Books: Two Time Emmy Winning “Young and the Restless” Star Jess Walton Will Publish Memoir Next April Starting with Hip ’70s Hollywood

Good news: Jess Walton, the Emmy winning and long time star of “The Young and the Restless” is publishing a memoir next April.

Walton has won two Emmy awards for playing Jill Foster Abbott on the CBS soap since the late 80s. She was on other soaps before that including “Capitol.”

But she was also a primetime player in the Sixties and Seventies. She was part of LA’s very hip Laurel Canyon scene of actors and musicians that included Neil Young, David Geffen, Laura Nyro, and Joni Mitchell. I want to hear those stories! It’s the last time Hollywood was interesting.

Walton landed a contract role at Universal, and she appeared on countless classic TV shows like “Gunsmoke,” “Kojak,” and “The Streets of San Francisco” with Michael Douglas and Karl Malden. I’m ordering my copy now! (I’m just sorry she wasn’t on “Mannix,” but you can’t have everything!)

Emmys: The Triumph of Apple TV as “Widow’s Bay” Takes Best Comedy, Studios Wins Most Awards, Beats HBO Max and Netflix

The Emmys are over, another one in the books.

The show was all about the triumph of Apple TV, which got the most awards — eight.

Apple’s big win was Best Comedy for “Widow’s Bay.” Matthew Rhys won Best Actor in a Comedy for the series, and Katie O’Flynn took home Best Supporting Actress.

Apple also won Best Actress in A Drama for Rhea Seehorn in “Pluribus.”

Apple TV is hot right now, beating HBO Max and Netflix. The latter took home just 3 awards.

HBO Max triumphed with “The Pitt” as Best Drama, and Best Actor Noah Wyle.

And so we begin again.

The Emmy Awards have been unusually even and a little weird.

First the best parts: Mariska Hargitay has earned so much good will over her career that her hosting is appreciated. She’s working hard, and trying to be different than Olivia Benson. She looks amazing, making more costume changes than any host of any show in history.

Some highlights: Taylor Swift showed up in a pre-taped sketch with the “SVU” squad, but the producers blew it by keeping the audience audio off. The whole thing felt like it was canned. Could have been exciting, but it wasn’t.

Meantime, in the real world, Taylor was chatting with Tom Cruise at the Kansas City Chiefs game. Tom was promoting his new movie.

John Mulaney, of course, stole the show. He got bleeped but pulled off a dirty joke. Also, he read aloud from a book by late New York actor Frank Vincent, borrowed from the library. Mulaney is a genius.

Sally Field won an acting award 50 years after winning for “Sybil” — and then winning two Oscars. Her speech about the arts was gold.

Stephen Colbert won Best Talk Show, a victory lap after CBS cancelled him.

Both Jean Smart and Matthew Rhys set records. Smart won her fifth Emmy in a row for “Hacks.” She was nominated five times also. And it was her eighth Emmy. Matthew Rhys won two awards tonight, for Best Actor in a Comedy, and in Limited Series. It’s the only time that’s happened. He also has an Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama, from 2018.

The show itself, however, comes off as low rent and extremely turgid. Most of the presenters are not cool. They’re pedestrian. Will things improve? Still forty minutes to go…

Woody Allen’s 51st movie starts shooting in Madrid on October 5th.

Tentatively titled, “Madrid,” the Wanda Vision production will shoot in Spain’s capital with some scenes in Aranjuez.

Here’s a way to spend $3,700 if you haven’t thought of one already.

Oprah is hosting an OprahWorld weekend in Vegas at the Sphere.

She’s putting on four shows over two days with guests you’ve really never heard of including Jacob Collier, Ocean Vuong, Ajeet, Wintley Phipps… and special guests. Will Gayle be there? Certainly. Stedman? Probably not. Eckhart Tolle? Maybe!

No Dr. Phil or Dr. Oz, however.

What is this thing? It’s called “Aha!” The price for the top tier, which includes two nights at the Bellagio Hotel, April 2nd – 4th, 2027, comes to $3,700. There are lower priced tickets, but you don’t get to meet Oprah, so what’s the point? Also, airfare is not included, so that could be another thousand bucks.

Plus, the shopping and gambling. And eating.

The Aha website asks: “Is this a concert? If not, what really is it? This is not a concert. While there is music—extraordinary music—think of AHA as a fully immersive, multi-sensory journey for the soul: part story, part score, part stillness, told through the largest screen and sound system ever built. No two people leave with the same experience.”

The site asks: Will any of the proceeds go to charity? “Yes. At least 10% of profits will be directed toward aligned philanthropic causes.” Not very specific.

Oprah says: “‘AHA’ is a dream that came to me as I sat in awe at the opening night of U2 at the Sphere, mesmerized by the possibilities of how the space could be used as a tool for creating greater awareness and understanding of ourselves and our connection to each other,” said Winfrey. “Creating this experience has felt like the culmination of what I’ve spoken about and worked towards my entire life.”

Sounds like pure torture, but who knows? Maybe there will be a car or a washing machine under every seat.

Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, wouldn’t let Macklemore perform at Gillette Stadium.

That’s what the offensive rapper says in a post this morning. Macklemore says he got that from Ed Sheeran, from whose tour he has now been dropped.

Kraft is Jewish, and smartly has had enough, like a lot of us. These are music shows, not political rallies.

Macklemore says he heard Kraft spoke to other NFL stadium owners, and they agreed Macklemore would not be allowed to bring his hate of Israel into their venues.

Ed Sheeran finally woke up.

He dropped rapper Macklemore as an opening act after the debacle at Met Life Stadium.

Macklemore turned his opening spot into anti-Israel, Free Palestine event that was not only offensive and unexpected, but sent many Sheeran fans from the stadium before the star took the stage.

Messina Touring Group, promoter of the U.S. leg of Sheeran’s Loop Tour, said in a statement to Rolling Stone: “As the concert promoter for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. Loop Tour, we have been notified by venues on the upcoming U.S. tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates.”

Sheeran had no choice. His silence after the disaster made it seem like he agreed with Macklemore, thus turning off a huge segment of fans. Many online said they were asking for refunds from the 8 upcoming stadium dates.

On stage as Sheeran’s opening act, Macklemore told crowds: “A big part of the reason why I wanted to do this tour in the first place is so I could stand up in stadiums like this and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart: ‘Free Palestine.’ I said, ‘Free Palestine!’ I want those words to be loud and clear, so that people all the way in Gaza to the occupied West Bank know that we have not forgotten about them.”

The long ago washed up rapper then sang his song called “Hind’s Hall” — named for pro-Palestine demonstrators who occupied a building at Columbia University after the murder of Hind Rajab.

The train should make no more stops, starting now. Gladys’s legacy is secure, but her health is not. Fans who attend her shows have been posting videos everywhere of a disoriented senior citizen who is being steered on stage by background singers.

This is not fair to Gladys, who has worked for 75 years and deserves to be respected and live in a dignified way.

Please, Gladys’s team, let the Midnight Train stop now. Gladys has three shows left. Please cancel them. They’re unnecessary. Let this woman get medical attention.
