Report: Trump Threatening to Bankrupt the Kennedy Center Unless His Name Goes On the Front, Could Lead to Immediate Closure — or Worse

Donald Trump’s war against the Kennedy Center continues this week according to The Washington Post.

The Post says that this week Trump’s lackeys on the Kennedy Center board will declare bankruptcy if he doesn’t get his name put on the outdoor signage.

It’s not enough that no one will bring a show into the Kennedy Center under the Trump regime. Now he threatens to close it — and maybe worse. Citing massive needed repairs, Trump could demolish the Kennedy Center the way he did the East Wing.

Forget about having inductees for the Kennedy Center Honors this year — especially if there is Kennedy Center at all.

Will Congress or the courts stop him? Is there a Bat signal? A chance of Superman or Spider Man coming to our rescue? Is there anyone in Washington who will stand up to this menace?

Lesley Stahl Goes After Trump the Old Fashioned Way, with Hidden Cameras, to Reveal How Criminals Are Getting Pardons from Trump for Big Bucks

Lesley Stahl and her team really sock it to Trump tonight.

On “60 Minutes,” Stahl and her producers go the old fashioned route of Mike Wallace. They actually set up a sting to catch the people making millions off of offering access to Trump in order to obtain presidential pardons.

Trump denies it, but in the end these brokers are all working to get his attention. According to Stahl, 92% of Trump’s pardons have not gone through the Department of Justice. They’ve all ben conducted by criminals for criminals.

I’m actually surprised Stahl’s piece made it on air. It’s very damaging to Trump, who thinks he’s calling the shots now on CBS. But she nails it, even interviewing the subjects of her sting — a pair of jackasses who look they came from central casting.

So will Congress follow up? Will Democrats do anything?

Emmy Awards Presenters Include a Couple of Oscar Winners, a Swimsuit Model and an Influencer, Plus Mariska Hargitay as Host

Tomorrow night’s Emmy Awards on NBC should be pretty interesting.

Mariska Hargitay is the host, the first time the long running star of “Law & Order SVU” has taken on such a task. She won an Emmy last week for the excellent documentary about her mother.

So you know Christopher Meloni and Ice T aren’t far behind, and there should be plenty of references to the legacy series.

Also in the mix of presenters, three Oscar winners: Sally Field, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Matthew McConaughey.

But you gotta keep it real, so there will be a swimsuit model — Brooks Nader — and an influencer, named Noah Beck.

The rest of the presenters are sort of like 52 pick up. They include Stephen Amell, Awkwafina, Noah Beck, Jessica Belkin, Scott Caan, Jamie Lee Curtis, Emma D’Arcy, Julia Garner, LL COOL J, Woody Harrelson, , Paul Anthony Kelly, Thaddeus LaGrone, Matthew McConaughey, John Mulaney, Brooks Nader, Emmy Rossum, Sofía Vergara and Shailene Woodley.

Plus: Odessa A’zion, Linda Cardellini, Macaulay Culkin, Alan Cumming, Sally Field, Jon Hamm, David Harbour, Marcello Hernández, Peter Krause, Dan Levy, Julianna Margulies, Annie Murphy, Niecy Nash-Betts, Keke Palmer, Amanda Peet, Amy Poehler, Florence Pugh, Rachel Sennott and Zendaya.

The people we really won’t see will be nominees, or stars from actual hit cable and streaming shows. Never heard of Hassie Harrison or Thomas LaGrone? Well, you’re going to meet them tomorrow night.

The broadcast will feature celebrations of the milestone 30th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with David Boreanaz and Sarah Michelle Gellar, and the 50th anniversary of Charlie’s Angels with Kate Jackson, Cheryl Ladd and Jaclyn Smith. 

Chart star Noah Kahan will sing at some point, maybe over the In Memoriam. LL Cool J will be on hand, even though the show isn’t on CBS. He gets lonely during awards shows.

All I know is, Amy Poehler will do something, and that will be worth turning away from the Yankees game against the Twins.

Who should win? It doesn’t matter. Who will win? Jean Smart, Noah Wyle, “Widow’s Bay,” and Rhea Seehorn from “Pluribus.”

As Frank Sinatra sang, It’s witchcraft.

“Practical Magic 2” landed a $30 mil opening weekend. Reviews are lukewarm, to say the least. But who can deny the power of movie stars?

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock may be two of the last of this species. Plus IYKYK, Dianne Wiest is so top notch. They worked hard for this number.

Also, don’t forget, there’s a pop hit right now called “Nicole Kidman’ by singer Adela.

All the potions worked.

Meantime, “The Odyssey” cracked the $600 million mark. It’s the highest grossing Universal movie in the studio’s history. Homer was seen celebrating at the Boom Boom Room last night with a bunch of females he called “suitors.”

“Coyote vs. Acme” at $47 million domestic, $61 million worldwide. Still have no idea who Ketchup Entertainment is, whether or not you have to tap on their logo to get the info. But the filmmakers must be hysterical at this point.

DOA “By Any Means.” Let’s not worry about it.

What happened to “The Fix”? Liam Neeson had a couple of people over, served them some Diet Coke, and charged 25 bucks. Wasn’t enough to report. Zachary Levi, full on Trumper, was not a draw after all. Surprise! In most theaters “The Fix” is playing during bathroom breaks for the clean up staff.

“Spider Man”? Still out there. $8 million weekend, $935 mil total. And yes, summer is over.

“I Play Rocky” Plays Through the Roof in Toronto — Universal Raves for the Story of How Sylvester Stallone Created the Beloved Character and Movie

“I Play Rocky” is a hit.

A movie about how Sylvester Stallone created his famous character and made the Oscar winning film debuted tonight to raves at the Toronto Film Festival.

In a world of “The Odyssey,” “I Play Rocky” is now a contendah for awards season.

I told you about this movie a while ago when I spoke to “Rocky” producer Irwin Winkler about it. He didn’t have anything to do with this one. He just said, make your movie.

One reviewer who saw the film in Toronto tonight wrote: “I Play Rocky” is a really beautiful reminder of the magic and inspiration in filmmaking, swinging a great emotional punch. Anthony Ippolito is a knockout with an exceptional supporting cast around him, many of whom are sneaky funny. They did a great job here. Tremendous movie.” (Brandon Davis)

Erik Davis of Fandango posted the wild standing ovation.

“I Play Rocky” is directed by Peter Farrelly, who you from “Green Book” all those comedies with his brother. Anthony Ippolito plays young Stallone, with a cast that includes Matt Dillon and Tracey Letts. Like “Green Book,” Farrelly has made the feel good movie of the season. Don’t underestimate the power of that.

Venice: John Malkovich Wins Best Actor for “Wild Horse Nine,” On Way to Oscar Nod, Korean “Possible Love,” Silver Grand Lion, “Woman Unknown” Wins

The Venice Film Festival is drawing to an end.

Awards are being given out, and there’s big news. John Malkovich has won Best Actor for Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine.”

The veteran actor is on his way things like the Oscar noms.

“Wild Horse Nine” — which I’m looking forward to seeing this week — is the latest hit from playwright McDonagh. He also counts “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “Three Billboards.” For the latter, Sam Rockwell picked up an Oscar. He’s also in the new movie. The McDonagh legacy comes from Fox Searchlight, now known as Searchlight. Long relationships involved.

Box Office: “Practical Magic 2” Conjures Up $13 Mil to Start, “Runner” Good Start, But “By Any Means,” Oasis Doc, “Uprising” Pretty Much DOA

The great summer of “Spodyssey” is over.

Those two blockbusters are now each in their dowager days. That’s ok. They set records this summer. But last night the finished third and fourth.

The number 1 movie is “Practical Magic 2, ” starting its run with $13 million. Not great reviews, but perfect marketing campaign. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock knew the job, and did it.

Number 2 is “Runner,” from the weird Angel Studios. Reviews not great, but Angel knows how to find an audience for its second hand goods. The start: $2.4 million. Alan Ritchson, Netflix’s Jack Reacher, is the star. I can’t imagine what Owen Wilson is going in this action adventure, and bet he can’t either.

But the rest of this week’s releases are dogs. “The Uprising” starring Andrew Garfield looks terrible. It’s a Robin Hood movie or something. There’s little connection between film and gas pedal. Strange, because Paul Greenglass directed it, and the cast is all top notch Brit actors — plus Katherine Waterston. Total so far $1.3 million. Wait for a plane ride.

Totally knocked out: “By Any Means” and the Oasis concert movie. Why is Oasis in theaters? I know they had a big worldwide tour, but that was because fans wanted to see fighting on stage between the Gallagher brothers. On screen, not so interesting. “By Any Means” has logged $11 million in 9 days. Yesterday it made $745K.

No box office report yet for “The Fix,” with Zachary Levi and Liam Neeson. Not surprised. Heading to DVD and 8 Track soon.

“60 Minutes” Premiere Will Include Lesley Stahl’s Look into Donald Trump’s “Pardon Economy” World Of Lawyers and Lobbyists

The fear of new editorial control at “60 Minutes” — giving in to Donald Trump.

But this Sunday the show’s most tenured correspondent, Lesley Stahl, looks like she’s taking Trump.

The middle segment on Sunday is called “The Pardon Economy.”

The descriiption: “Presidents have pardoned criminals since the time of George Washington. It’s a constitutional power that has been controversial from the start—but perhaps never more so than during the Trump presidency. Lesley Stahl and 60 MINUTES investigate the world of lawyers and lobbyists who have created a new pardon economy. Shachar Bar-On and Michael Kaplan are the producers.”

So will Stahl get to the bottom of the 194 pardons and 37 commutations Trump has doled out so far in his second term? There are dozens of criminals involved, each story more alarming than the last. Most of them have the appearance of patronage — donations, gifts, etc in exchange for freedom.

Stahl has taken on a tall order. If the piece is the least bit lacking, “60 Minutes” will be accused of spinning for Trump. If it’s like a real “60 Minutes” investigation, Trump should be squawking before it’s over.

Jimmy Kimmel Racks Up Over 8 Million Views on ABC-Banned Talarico Interview and Monologue: Six Times the Normal Rating *UPDATING

UPDATING: The video below now has FIVE million views.

ABC didn’t want Jimmy Kimmel to show his interview with Democratic Texas Senate Candidate James Talarico.

The network forced Kimmel to put the interview on YouTube, instead, the way CBS had dealt with Talarico and Stephen Colbert last February.

Well, it backfired, of course.

Between the Talarico interview, and Jimmy’s monologue from the regular, there have been over 6 million views on You Tube.

A regular Kimmel show averages 1.5 million viewers.

So Kimmel quadrupled his audience, and made ABC look foolish.

Talarico is getting closer and closer to beating Ken Paxton in the November election. By banning him, ABC made people curious about his position. In the interview. Talarico makes a lot more sense than Paxton, who has lists of negatives against him.

If you missed the YouTube interview, it’s worth watching.

Liam Neeson: why does he keep making these movies? He used to be legit star. “Schindler’s List,” but plenty of others. “Michael Collins,” for example. “The Phantom Menace.” “Batman Begins.”

I guess the money is too good to pass up. But his list of D movies is lengthy and getting worse.

His new one, “The Fix,” has a 20% on Rotten Tomatoes. No surprise, it’s another stinker.

Neeson isn’t even first on the call sheet. That honor goes to pariah Zachary Levi, who came out as a full on Trumper and was appropriately shunned thereafter. For a hot minute, Levi had plenty of good will from things like “Shazam” and “Mrs. Maisel.” He even starred in a Broadway musical. But then he opened his big yap. Now he’s going to DVD bins.

“The Fix” won’t show any box office reporting this weekend. Unclear if it’s playing anywhere. The distributor is the mostly unknown Inaugural Entertainment.
