9-11 Activist Terry Strada Speaks Out Against Saudi Arabia: Will Hollywood Remember in December and Skip Red Sea Festival?

Terry Strada, a 9-11 widow and activist, bravely spoke up today about Saudi Arabia’s part in the horrors of the attack.

She put the blame squarely on Saudi Arabia. If you don’t believe her, I point you to the exemplary work of several authors whose books on the subject detail the long relationship between the Royal family and wealthy people in power here. Will Hollywood remember this in December when they troop off to Saudi Arabia for the Red Sea Film Festival?

It’s been unbelievable to me the last few years that all sorts of major stars travel to Saudi Arabia for four days of adulation and back patting. Forget the story Jamal Khassoggi, the American journalist brutally murdered by the Saudis.

There is always the story of 9-11.

Last year’s guests included : Michael Caine, Vin Diesel, Johnny Depp, Jessica Alba, Dakota Johnson, Ana de Armas, Uma Thurman, Kirsten Dunst, Queen Latifah, Shailene Woodley, Nina Dobrev, and Anthony Hopkins. Oscar winning director headed up the jury. They should all watch the video below.

Strada took the mic at the 9-11 Memorial and said:
“My husband, Tom Strada. You are missed more with each year that passes. But, how can it be 25 years and still we have no justice for the role that Saudi Arabia played in your murder. Yes, we finally made it into a court and have proved that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia fomented a rancid culture of anti-American terrorism around the globe and then sent its agents to support the radical Islamists hijackers so they could attack you and all of our loved ones. But, for 25 years administration after administration, including leaders in front of us here today, chose to protect the Saudis instead of standing with the 9/11 families. They withheld evidence…they broke promises, both public and private, it’s been on betrayal after another. President Trump can still change that. Tell the Saudis to stop lying.”

Think of this when Entertainment Tonight is interviewing this season’s stars on the red carpet in Jeddah come December.

Gotta give credit to Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock.

Two top movie stars, Oscar winners, and hard workers. They pitched in like crazy to promote “Practical Magic 2.” They left no stone unturned. And they were funny, sincere, and glamorous at the same time.

The result? It worked. “Practical Magic 2” took in $4.7 million last night. They could reap a $33 million opening weekend. Now that’s witchery!

The movie was panned by critics. But no one let that stop them. The actresses just barreled forward. Good for them! A third Oscar winner, Dianne Wiest, is a beneficiary of their work.

“PM2” handily beat both “Spider Man” and “The Odyssey,” each of which lost a lot of steam yesterday.

Jimmy Kimmel is on Youtube with his banned by ABC interview with James Talarico.

Meantime, Kimmel took no prisoners tonight during his monologue on his regular show. He was hilarious going after Trump and his huge failure of a midterm convention in Hollywood.

Who knows? Maybe Kimmel is leaving in May, and he’s just going to torch Trump every night until then. I hope not, though. He’s the only one pointing out the complete idiocy of the time we are in.

At about 11pm tonight, Jimmy Kimmel released his interview with Texas Democratic Senate Candidate to You Tube. It’s not part of his ABC show which begins shortly.

ABC refused to let Kimmel make the interview part of the show on the grounds that it was a political booking. But only yesterday morning did Republican Senator Ted Cruz appear on ABC’s “The View.”

Sadly, this is not unprecedented.Back in February, CBS refused to let Stephen Colbert interview Talarico. Colbert also ran his piece on YouTube. We’re living in a time of extreme censorship exacted by corporations who fear a fascist president.

Jimmy Kimmel: “I mentioned last night we are being targeted by the FCC for the crime of interviewing political candidates. Even though for years we and every other late night talk show have welcomed numerous candidates including Donald Trump when he was running.

“And so the FCC has threatened me or threatened my show, our network, even your local ABC stations because they want to make our editorial decisions for us, which of course we cannot accept. And so tonight, we are bypassing the public airwaves and hosting this YouTube interview on YouTube, even though uh our government would clearly prefer that we not do it at all.”

Miami Herald Sees 30 Reporters Cut by McClatchy Media, Lexington KY Herald-Leader Loses 12 as AI Threatens to Take Over Newsrooms (UPDATING)

McClatchy News took a machete to newsrooms they own today.

According to posts on social media, the company fired 30 reporters at the Miami Herald including ones that report on the City of Miami.

McClatchy also fired 12 people at the Lexington, KY Herald.

Also affected were other local papers in South Florida attached to the Miami Herald.

With young people getting news from influencers and social media, print journalism is dying quickly now. There was word earlier this week that the Bloch family, which already closed the Pittsburgh Post. is looking to do the same with The Toledo Blade.

Politicians like Donald Trump are all for the end of real journalism. Their paths to success lie in misinformation, fake news, and having no educated professionals disseminating facts. This is particularly true away from major media hubs.

PS McClatchy Media obviously isn’t taking publishing seriously anymore. The press release page on their website hasn’t been updated since March 2024. They still have an announcement of the new (then) editor of US Weekly. He’s long gone, however.

Famed Rockers U2 Honored by Musicares Persons of the Year as Group Celebrates 50th Anniversary — 23 Years After Bono Won the Award

Great mews!

Famed rockers U2 are getting the Persons of the Year Award from Musicares in February.

Ironically, Bono received the same award solo in 2003.

But U2 — which includes The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr, and Adam Clayton — have been incredibly philanthropic in that time, and have never hesitated to speak out on world issues. They deserve it!

This does mean guests at the event, which has moved to the Peacock Theater in LA Live this time, will be hearing a dozen or more stars performing U2 hits. And who knows, maybe the group will take the stage for one or two songs themselves!

If you don’t know already, Musicares is the central charity in the music world, and from the Recording Academy. They are key for musicians around the world to get financial help for a variety of illnesses and conditions and every kind of situation that hinders them from earning a living group. Donations to Musicares are essential if you’re a music fan.

Billy Joel Mourns Original Bandmate and Friend Jon Small: “He Was Like a Brother to Me, We Shared a Bond That Never Changed”

Billy Joel’s old friend and original bandmate, Jon Small, died this week. They performed as the Hassles in the late 60s before Billy hit it big with “Piano Man.”

Fans who watched the excellent HBO documentary about Billy know that he regretfully broke up Jon’s marriage, saying he’d fallen in live with his pal’s wife, Elizabeth. Billy married Elizabeth but that ended in acrimony over finances.

Still, Billy and Jon patched things up. Billy’s letter here is poignant. Condolences.

Theater: Tony Winner Adrienne Warren Headed Off Broadway in New Musical with John Legend Original Score, Plus “& Juliet” Closing After Four Years

Lots of theater news this morning.

Adrienne Warren, who the Tony for playing Tina Turner, is back!

Warren still in a musical version of the film “Imitation of Life” this fall at the mysterious theater The Shed in Hudson Yards. (I’m very happy they finally hired a real PR company, Polk & Co.)

John Legend — whose new single I told you about the other day — has written the original score.

Lynn Nottage wrote the book, and Whitney White is directing.

“Imitation of Life” has had a lot of variations over the years. But the Douglas Sirk movie from the 1950s is the template. It’s about two single mothers and their daughters in circa 1920 Atlantic City and 1930s New York. One is Black, the other is white. Casting of the white mother will be interesting.

Very cool project for a six week run. But maybe that will hasten a trip to Broadway in the spring.

Other news: now two jukebox musicals will close on January 3, 2027. “& Juliet” is throwing in the towel after four years. “Six,” already announced the same day for their closing.

At the box office, “Hamilton” led the way this past week with $2.1 million. “The Lion King” and “Wicked” always remain top tickets. “Harry Potter” took in $1.8 mil as they wait for Rupert Grint to come in as adult Ron Weasly.

The next fatality might be “Stranger Things: The First Shadow,” which has to be losing money. It only played to 67% capacity last week. Too bad, because if you’re a fan of the TV show, the Broadway one is a lot of fun.

Harry Styles is about to make the biggest coin of his life.

He’s just announced stadium dates across the US for 2027 extending his already massively successful “Together Together” tour. There will be two shows in each city, and then three when he gets to the finale at Wembley Stadium in London.

He’s also announcing a fair ticket price scheme so that fans can actually see him without getting cleaned out on the secondary market. The 2027 run will introduce “Unpredictable Fun” Tickets, a new initiative designed to make Together, Together shows more accessible to fans. A limited number of tickets will be available for $20 in North America, £20 in the U.K. and €20 in Europe, with additional details on availability to be announced soon.

Unlike his current 30 show sold out at Madison Square Garden, this tour will have opening acts.

They include Kylie Minogue, Lainey Wilson, LCD Soundstage, Tinashe, and the amazing Womack Sisters (I guess he knew how find them). Then, Tears for Fears will open the Wembley shows.

Oddly, the tour — which sells out everywhere — has had little effect on sales for his most recent album. Only “Sign of the Times,” from 10 years ago, continues to rank on charts. The rest of “Disco All the Time. Kiss Occasionally” has not seemed to register.

But don’t worry. You know there will be a concert film and DVD package when this is all over.

This is one of the most well-planned tours I’ve ever seen.
