“SNL” New Season Will Have 3 New Players, As Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant Will Come and Go, Kate McKinnon in for Election Shows

0

The new season of “Saturday Night Live” will bring changes galore, besides having a smaller live audience.

For one thing, according to reports, Jim Carrey will be playing Joe Biden. This will come as a bit of a sting to Jason Sudeikis, who originated Biden years ago when he was a regular. But Woody Harrelson played Biden last season, and now Carrey will step into the role. I wish they’d asked Sudeikis back, but this is like replacing Darrell Hammond with Alec Baldwin for Trump.

Three new players are joining the show: Lauren Holt, an actor and comedian; Punkie Johnson, a comedian and writer; and Andrew Dismukes, a stand-up comic who has been a staff writer at “SNL.”

Holt looks like she might be groomed as a replacement for Aidy Bryant, who Lorne Michaels has said will come and go this season while she shoots her series, “Shrill.” Cecily Strong is shooting a series in Vancouver, so Michaels tells New York Mag’s Vulture she’ll be green-screened in when she can’t be in New York. And Kate McKinnon? Michael says she’s “here for the election shows” somewhat enigmatically. After that, McKinnon could very well be moving on.

And Alec Baldwin? Now that he has five small children to support, you don’t hear him making noises about playing Donald Trump. It’s easy money and not much of a commute. When Biden wins the election, though, that may be the end of the line for his famous impersonation.

PS Congrats to Lorne. “SNL” won a bunch of creative arts Emmys earlier this week. Eddie Murphy is sure to win as Guest Star in a Variety series from last season. Forty six seasons and still at the top of the heap!

Showstopper: Kanye Posts Video of Himself Urinating on a Grammy Award Placed in Toilet — He Has 21 Grammy Awards!

0

Kanye West has posted a video to Twitter in which he’s urinating on a Grammy Award placed in a toilet. It’s him, he’s wearing his ugly sneakers. Kanye has 21 Grammy Awards from 69 nominations!!!! It’s not like they’ve snubbed him.

This is an act of mental illness. It’s crude, coarse, and completely inappropriate. In all these years, the Grammys have done nothing to Kanye. But he’s made a fool of himself on stage, interrupted the show, and called them names. This is the last straw.

What he doesn’t realize is that plenty of his colleagues have won or been nominated for Grammys. They just acted in a civil, human way. This is crossing the line. Even for someone with bipolar condition.

PS Kanye is a presidential candidate from the Birthday Party. Yes, It’s true.

Hit songwriter Diane Warren responded on Twitter: “How vile and disrespectful of U. This was given to U by your peers out of respect for your work and U r literally pissing on them. I’ve won one Grammy and I’m forever grateful and humble that my peers found me worthy of it.”

Yeezus! Kanye West Received $12 Million Advance for 2013 Album That Has Sold Only 609,000 Copies in Seven Years

0

Kanye West is posting pictures of his 2012 contract with DefJam. It looks like he got a $12 million advance in 2012 for his 2013 album, Yeezus. Yeezus is right. The album was not a hit. According to Buzz Angle, “Yeezus” has a sold a total of 609,000 copies. Only 92,000 are CDs and downloads. The rest is all streaming.

“Yeezus”– which I like to call “Meezus” — was one of Kanye’s botched releases, had no marketing and no time to set up. If this is what DefJam has been paying him, they are crazy. And he’s crazy like a fox. His albums have not been big sellers in years. The licensing fees and royalties for samples he takes from other artists prey on his profit and loss sheets. And now he’s angry with Def Jam? LOL.

When black artists were really ripped off in the past, they didn’t have $12 million advances. They got nothing. Smokey Robinson will do a spit take when he sees this contract. Kanye West has never written an actual song, and doesn’t sing. What exactly is he being paid all this money for? This is completely insane. But this is how the hip hop world works. It’s all smoke and mirrors.

UPDATE Read the Disingenuous Memo from Fox News Chief About Layoffs: Firing Hair and Make-Up People, Lowest Paid and Most Vulnerable

0

Fox News is starting a round of layoffs by firing the most vulnerable, nicest group in the building: hair and make up. When I was at Fox, this group of mostly women were the friendliest, most normal, and lowest paid at 1211 Ave of the Americas. So it’s not a surprise to see the Murdochs dump them first, and make them scramble for money.

From now on, Fox News says only on air talent will get hair and make up. Guests will have to fend for themselves. Sine most of the guests are right wing crazies who don’t have great grooming, this should make the shows so much more interesting.

“As Fox News Media has evolved into a streamlined multi-platform organization, we are realigning several functions and restructuring various divisions in order to position all of our businesses for ongoing success,” the company said in a statement Wednesday.

Total layoffs this time will be less than 100, Fox says, but we’ll see how that shakes out. No highly paid people will be affected.

Since there is no face of Fox News now, I’ve run a photo of the late Roger Ailes, who’s booking Ronald and Nancy Reagan on the Mike Douglas Show up in heaven, but not getting a table at Elaine’s.

Kanye On Manic Twitter Rant This Morning: Bible Quotes, Attacks on Music Biz, And Keeping His French Couches “Museum Quality”

0

Kanye West has Tweeted about 18 times between 8:30am and 9:40am this morning. There are lots of quotes from the Bible, including “Vengeance is mine.”

Kanye’s beef is with Universal Music and their corporate owner Vivendi. He wants the master recordings of his records back. The company owns them. Kanye is in a long financial deal with Universal and knows the details of his contract a lot better than we do. But he’s in a manic mode, he’s freaking out. It was only a few weeks ago that he declared himself a billionaire, but he may actually need money.

He Tweeted: I AM ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS PEOPLE ON THE PLANET AND UNIVERSAL WONT TELL ME WHAT MY MASTERS COST BECAUSE THEY KNOW I CAN AFFORD THEM … BLACK MASTERS MATTER

He also wrote: “EVERYONE AT UNIVERSAL AND VIVENDI PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT I WILL DO EVERYTHING IN MY LEGAL POWER AND USE MY VOICE UNTIL ALL ARTIST CONTRACTS ARE CHANGED STARTING WITH GETTING MY MASTERS FOR MY CHILDREN I WILL NOT STOP I PROMISE YOU IM AM PETTY AND VERY PERSONAL”

Kanye is calling on his followers to “cover him” in massive prayers as he tries to dismantle the record business and invalidate contracts he’s signed. He’s using Michael Jackson’s similar “breakdown” just prior to his own massive legal problems in the early 2000s, when Michael called Sony Music and Tommy Mottola “the devil” and so on. Michael was in dire need of funds, owed Sony hundreds of millions of dollars in loans, and went on a ill-thought out public attack that got him absolutely nowhere.

According to his Twitter feed, Kanye has been calling Vivendi board members, and also called tech investor Ben Horowitz whose name rarely appears anywhere.

This might be taken more seriously but Kanye just Tweeted this picture of a beige French couch called a Royere and wrote: “I honestly need all my Royeres to be museum quality… if I see a fake Royere Ima have to Rick James your couch”

So, really.

Soap Opera Stunner as “Days of Our Lives” 30 Year Vet Melissa Reeves Replaced by Cady McClain

0

With the soaps struggling in the ratings since the return post-pandemic, everything matters in the way the shows are presented.

Over the summer, “Days of our Lives” vet Melissa Reeves– who’s played Jennifer Horton on and off since the mid 1980s– went on social media and liked a Tweet by right winger Candace Owens denouncing Black Lives Matter. “Days” shoots far enough in advance that the uproar which followed died down somewhat. But even some of her castmates were furious with Reeves, a Born Again Christian who flies back and forth to Los Angeles from her home in Nashville.

But apparently, backstage the scandal never went quiet. And now, Reeves is out. She’s being replaced by Cady McClain, an Emmy winner from “All My Children” and “As the World Turns” who can act like crazy. (Reeves is no Meryl Streep.)

The company line is that Reeves didn’t want to fly during the pandemic, and that McClain’s stint is temporary. It’s a convenient excuse. Sony TV wouldn’t have hired a heavy hitter like McClain for short term work. As “Days” has resumed shooting, McClain will be front burner and full time. It won’t be long before she gets her groove and becomes an MVP on “Days.” Meantime, the show is indeed having trouble, as are the three other soaps. The most recent ratings have them off by 260,000 from last year at this time. A  number of actors have been written off, and popular star Kristian Alfonso left the show when they tried to put her on a three month hiatus after 37 years.

Will Justin Bieber Celebrate Rosh Hashanah By Dropping His First Christian Single? “Holy” Artwork Suggests It

0

How will Justin Bieber celebrate the eve of the Jewish New Year on Friday?

At sundown, Rosh Hashanah begins. A few hours earlier, Bieber will drop a new single called “Holy.” From the art work, there’s a cross involved. Could this be Bieber’s first Christian single? Or Christian music lite?

Manager Scooter Braun wrote on Instagram: “A new era begins.”

Bieber frequently tweets about his pastor and his church and his commitment to Christianity. His submergence into the subject makes it harder for him to write typical sexy pop songs like the ones that propelled his earlier career. Plus, the Christmas season is coming. A holiday-infused album would revive his flagging album sales.

If Justin has chosen Rosh Hashanah weekend for a Christian themed song it would fit in nicely, brandwise, with his infamous trip to Anne Frank’s house in Amsterdam. He wrote in the guest book the author who died in the Holocaust would have been a “Belieber.”

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Kanye’s Obsession with Taylor Swift: He’s Publishing Correspondence with His Own Lawyer Over Owning Master Recordings

0

keep refreshing

Kanye West is having a manic episode on Twitter. He’s obsessed with Taylor Swift and her fight to get own her master recordings– in a bad way. This morning he published correspondence with what looks like a lawyer over ownership of his own masters.

What’s disturbing is that he’s publishing this stuff because he says he hasn’t heard from anyone at Sony or Universal — despite raising these issues on Twitter just last night. “It’s go time,” he writes.

This should make his legal team crazy since they settled with Kanye’s labels one year ago.

What is at the root of this new Twitter rant?

In 2018, Kanye claimed Sony-ATV, which owns EMI, turned down his efforts to buy back his publishing. “I went to go buy my publishing from Sony/ATV and they said, ‘It’s $8 million [or] $9 million’ and when I went to buy it, they told me ‘No,’ I couldn’t buy my publishing,” he wrote. “I have the money to buy [back] my publishing. And they told me that I couldn’t buy my publishing… It’s like the control.” He actually posted a video rant he called “Mind Control.”

He filed a suit against EMI which was settled. But in December, EMI wrote to the court: “Unfortunately, as of today’s date, the parties have been unable to finalize the terms of a settlement agreement, or to finally resolve related issues on which a settlement agreement would be conditioned. As a result, good cause exists, and EMI hereby applies to reopen the Action.”

The parties, according to reports, settled for a second time.

Letter from LA: Nancy Davis’s “Drive-In to Erase MS” Raises $1.4 Million with Siedah Garrett, Eric Benet, and Andy Grammer Performing

0

Nancy Davis is unstoppable. She’s always on the frontlines, and this past Friday she was front and center on the stage and on the inflatable big screen at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for her “Drive -In Race to Erase MS” event.

Even after suffering the unimaginable — her beloved son Jason died of a pulmonary embolism this past February (the event was dedicated to him)  — Nancy still is out there through her tears and with a smile on her face. Nancy’s energy in her steps has never waned as she’s been fighting for decades with her “Race to Erase” gala, which is a celebrated yearly event that benefits MS research and her Center Without Walls program and other MS centers that all work together to find a cure.

Nancy herself was diagnosed with MS in her early thirties. The event is usually a celebrated staple at the Beverly Hilton, but this most recent event was COVID-19 careful complete with multiple inflatable huge screens, a catered dinner by Craig’s and gift bags that were put in your car when you got there, along with the orange carpet. Guests stayed in their cars and flashed their lights and honked their horns as pseudo applause.

Nancy’s friend, actress Anne Heche, introduced her as “The Queen of Peace and Love” which coincidentally is the name of Nancy’s successful jewelry line. The event featured a virtual Tommy Hilfiger Adaptive Collection for the Fall 2020 aimed at people with disabilities. Performers included Siedah Garrett (she also has MS) who she sang her famous Michael Jackson collaboration “Man in the Mirror,” and an original song, “The New Frontier: Say Their Names.” Eric Benet sang “Georgy Porgy” and more, and Andy Grammer had a fun set including his signature hit, “Keep Your Head Up.”

Other presenters and celebs attending where Marg Helgenberger, Derek Hough, NY Yankee great Dave Winfield, Loni Love, Victoria Justice, Xochitl Gomez, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Pia Toscano, Lucy Hale, and more.

Every year one of the most touching moments in an evening filled with poignancy is a performance of Bill Withers’s hit, “Lean On Me.” This year was a video look back on the song with performers including Nancy’s dear friend the late Natalie Cole, Stevie Wonder, The Eagles and so many more.

The Davis family has long been a philanthropic to many causes, led by the indefatigable and wonderful matriarch Barbara Davis. Barbara has certainly taught her children well. In honor of that work, the first ever Jason Davis Scholarship was announced, going to an individual who is struggling with MS, in conjunction with substance abuse and/or depression. Nancy’s lovely daughters, Mariella and Isabella Rickel accepted the posthumous honor for their loved late brother. Nancy’s devoted husband, respected entrepreneur Ken Rickel was by their side. “Drive-In To Erase MS” 2020 Live Gala honoring Jason Davis raised over $1.4 million dollars. Nancy Davis is a treasure in a troubled time who reminds us daily to step up, step out and give back.
