Lana del Rey Pulling a Taylor Swift, Releasing Second Album in One Year, “Blue Banisters,” in July

0

Lana del Rey already released one critically acclaimed best selling album just a few weeks, “Chemtrails over the Country Club.”

But on social media she’s announced a second album, “Blue Banisters,”: set for July 4th. She’s followed the chemtrail of Taylor Swift, who also released two albums last year, “Folklore” and “Evermore.”

We’re seeing an amazing amount of productivity thanks to the pandemic. All that downtime got some pop stars working overtime.

Adele, however, did nothing we know of. No new album in five and a half years. She’s not worried. Whenever she releases her next one, it will sell 10 times as many copies as all these albums. But wouldn’t have been nice to have more, rather than less music from her?

“Chemtrails,” by the way, has sold very well for its category– since March 5th 150,000 copies including 70,000 CDs and downloads. If the radio people worked a single, it could be more!

(Watch) Jimmy Kimmel’s Interview with Insurrectionist MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell: “Were you vaccinated…for rabies?”

0

Here’s the whole interview with Jimmy Kimmel and Mike Lindell. Lindell looks worn out, and unwell. He also totally believes whatever it is he’s carrying on about, he’s crazy, a conspiracy theorist and a kook. But he also backed the January 6th insurrection, encouraging traitors to attack the Capitol. Kimmel viewers aren’t happy that he appeared on the show. Lindell seemed clueless about being mocked.

Insurrection Backer MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell Appears as Jimmy Kimmel Guest, But First Lampooned, Network Runs a Commercial for His Company

0

Jimmy Kimmel had an unlikely guest tonight: insurrection backer MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.

But first, Kimmel lampooned Lindell with a comic sketch for four minutes with an impersonator. Later the impersonator came out and joked with the real Lindell, who didn’t get that he was being sent up the whole time. Kimmel asked him if he’d been vaccinated, Lindell reponded “no,” Kimmel said: “for rabies?”

And ABC ran a commercial for MyPillow, the first I’ve seen on a network since January when Lindell endorsed and encouraged the the January 6th insurrection. His products were dropped by just about every retailer.

But ABC took Lindell’s money and ran a commercial for MyPillow’s Giza sheets before Lindell’s interview.

Kimmel came off like Tom Snyder interviewing a nut. ABC came off very badly. On top of that, actor Justin Theroux appeared in a segment before Lindell, in which the MyPillow CEO was further mocked.

It’s hard to know whether to feel repulsed by Lindell or feel sorry for him. He seems out of it, not with it. Detached from reality. But he’s committed to his cause whatever it is.

Ratings: ABC’s “Big Sky,” A Violent Take on “Twin Peaks,” Scores Lowest Ratings Ever, Flirts with Cancellation

0

Why is “Big Sky” still on the air? I don’t know.

Last night’s violent episode scored the show’s lowest ratings ever, down to 2,68 million viewers. That’s down 9.76% from the previous episode, which itself was down 13% from the episode before.

This was the show heavily promoted as a vehicle for Ryan Phillippe, who was then shockingly killed off in the first episode. Later in the run, the show’s other known actor, John Carroll Lynch, whose character was evil and violent against women, was killed by Brooke Smith, herself a passing through actor. Smith, who’s always terrific, was long ago in “Silence of the Lambs.” She’s gone but Ted Levine, who held her in that pit, is now playing a character called Horst Kleinsasser. I kid you not. Indeed, a whole new group of characters seem to be on now, and they are cast badly, and written worse.

“Big Sky” comes off like a bad version of “Twin Peaks,” except without the humor, wit, or irony. Women are killed and/or tortured on screen, graphically, and there’s no reason for it.

With these ratings, “Big Sky” is headed for the big round up of TV shows in the sky. It’s a rare misfire from David E, Kelley, who created it and should never mention it again.

As “This is Us” Starts Wrapping Up, Justin Hartley Lands Indie Movie with Cast of Unknowns and First time Director

0

If you’re following our story, Justin Hartley jumped from “The Young and the Restless” to “This is Us” five years ago. He plays Kevin, the actor son of Mandy Moore and Milo Ventimiglia. No one could have seen him holding his own in scenes with Sterling K. Brown, but he has,

Now the NBC nighttime soap and cry fest is aiming for its final season so the actors are starting to look for more work. Brown is going to get an Oscar, I guarantee you. With the right material, he’s the equivalent of Viola Davis.

Hartley is taking on an independent film called “A Whole Lot of Nothing.” It comes from first time director Mo McRae, an actor who’s making his debut. The cast is all unknown to us:  Y’lan Noel, Shamier Anderson, Lex Scott Davis, and Cleopatra Coleman.

We’ll see this one day at a film festival. Hartley also has an untitled Netflix film in the works with two of our favorite people: Bonnie Bedelia and Treat Williams, directed by Charles Shyer. Bedelia– who is btw Macaulay Culkin’s aunt– has a stellar career resume with a Golden Globe nomination for a terrific film called “Heart Like a Wheel.” I always thought she had an Oscar nomination, too. She should have. And Treat Williams has a load of great credits, three Globe nominations and of course– going way back– “Smooth Talk” with Laura Dern.

Red Hot Chili Peppers Sign with Madonna’s Manager, Drummer Chad Smith Bringing His Art to NYC Show Next Month

The Red Chili Peppers never go out of style. They just signed with Madonna’s manager, Guy Oseary, who also handles U2. Guy knows what he’s doing. If he made time for another super act, then he knows the Chili Peppers are going to be red hot again soon.

In the meantime, drummer Chad Smith is an accomplished artist. So much so that he’s opening the famed MVVO Art Show May 3rd at the crazy funk modernistic Oculus at the World Trade Center. The show begins May 3rd, when Smith will (virtually) cut the ribbon or smash a Champagne bottle on the bow, or whatever is necessary.

Bo Burnham, the Nice Guy Who Carey Mulligan Jilts in “Promising Young Woman,” Has A Netflix Musical Special

You know Bo Burnham. He’s the nice guy who meets Carey Mulligan in the coffee shop in “Promising Young Woman” and she treats like dirt. That guy. He also directed and starred in “Eighth Grade.” Now it seems he’s made a musical special for Netflix coming soon. He shot it himself during the pandemic. That’s all we know. Here’s his teaser for it.

Glenn Close Explains How Oscar Tablemates Daniel Kaluuya, Chris Terrio, & Darrell Britt-Gibson Schooled Her on Da Butt

0

People are still talking about well versed Glenn Close was on the subject of Da Butt during the Oscars. Was it scripted when she got up and shook her butt? Well, she explained a little on Instagram:

We had the MOST FUN at our table at the Oscars last night. Chris Terrio, one of my best friends, who won an Oscar for the screenplay of ARGO, was my gallant escort. Daniel Kaluuya and Darrell Britt-Gibson were wonderful table mates. I knew that Lil Rel was going to quiz me about Da Butt and all three guys helped me run through what I was to say. Darrell insisted that I mention the Backyard Band, on top of E.U., Suga Bear and the whole DMV. I had googled “Da Butt” and watched Spike’s music video so when Lil Rel asked if I could do the dance…you can actually see me think of the video. That part was completely spontaneous. Daniel, Darrell and Chris egged me on!!! It was ALL their fault. CONGRATULATIONS DANIEL on your BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Oscar. You are completely brilliant. I now consider both Daniel and Darrell to be friends-for-life!

Kate Winslet’s “Mare of Easttown” Follows “The Undoing” as Must-See Hit, Jumps 28% on HBO, 25% Including HBO Max

0

Either way you look at it, Kate Winslet’s “Mare of Easttown” on HBO is turning into a massive hit.

I’d say a watercooler hit, but no one’s in their office. Nevertheless, the murder mystery is following “The Undoing” recipe with everyone trying to figure out whodunit.

Sunday’s episode increased 28% on HBO from Week 1, and 25% across all HBO platforms including HBO Max.

On HBO alone, the number grew from 600,000 the first week to 735,000 the second. Now during the week there will be catch up viewing leading to week 3. With other platforms, the number was 1.2 million up from 1 million total.

And that’s pretty good considering “Mare” was up against the Oscars, same audience, you’d think.

All this points to a big conclusion on May 30th, with the seventh and final episode. The eighth episode will be the Emmy Awards on September 19th, when Winslet and crew sweep through their categories. HBO has really figured out this limited series thing.

Well played, HBO!

Oh who did it? PS I think Guy Pearce. But we’ll see…

Veteran NY Post Reporter Quits, Says She Was Forced to Write Untrue Story About Kamala Harris’ Children’s Book at Border

0

Veteran NY Post reporter Laura Italiano has quite the paper today. She says was ordered to write an untrue story about Kamala Harris.

“An announcement: Today I handed in my resignation to my editors at the New York Post. The Kamala Harris story — an incorrect story I was ordered to write and which I failed to push back hard enough against — was my breaking point. It’s been a privilege to cover the City of New York for its liveliest, wittiest tabloid — a paper filled with reporters and editors I admire deeply and hold as friends. I’m sad to leave.”

The story, which appeared on the cover, was called “Kam On In.” It claimed that Vice President Harris, though she wasn’t at the border, had ordered copies of her children’s book for abandoned kids who were there.  It made it seem like Harris had ordered hundreds of her books at the government’s expense.

In fact, there was one copy of her book at a Long Beach, California facility.

After Italiano complained, an addendum was later affixed that read: “The original version of this article said migrant kids were getting Harris’ book in a welcome kit, but has been updated to note that only one known copy of the book was given to a child.”

But it was typical of the Post’s way of bending the news, writing fiction, creating stories to make one side look bad.

Bravo to Italiano, who is incredibly principled and has worked, as they, like a dog as a top notch reporter for the Post for years. I’m sure she’ll be snapped up in a minute by the Times or a national outlet. Just a search of her name in the Post library will show thousands of bylines as Italiano trudged all over New York seeking the truth for a paper that relies on lies.

More to come…
