Beyonce and Jay Z Win the Super Bowl: She Surprise Releases New Music, He Produces Usher’s Triumphant Show

0

Howdy pardner!

Beyonce and Jay Z won the Super Bowl.

She released two new songs and announced a new album.

He produced Usher’s triumphant halftime show.

They also pulled a fast one over on the Grammys. She went last week dressed as a cowgirl. He demanded she be given an Album of the Year. Now she’s got a country album and a single called “Texas Hold ‘Em” that is absolute genius. And another called “16 Carriages.”

This musical zig zag was the smartest thing Beyonce could ever have done. She will get a new whole audience and win all the Grammys she wants.

Plus. she did it on Taylor Swift’s turf which is amazing. There is Taylor taking over the NFL rooting for her boyfriend, and Beyonce upstaged her. Crazy!

Billy Joel MSG Show Will Be Filmed March 28 for April 24th Broadcast on CBS (See Original Story)

0

I kind of scooped this info a couple of weeks ago.

Billy Joel’s March 28th show at Madison Square Garden will be taped not just for posterity but for broadcast on CBS on April 14th.

Read the end of my original story. I should have made it a headline, but I was on the run!

Billy has three shows left after March 28th — one in April, May, June each. Then he’s done with MSG after a record breaking run!

Still he tours like crazy, with Sting and with Stevie Nicks on different dates. The Piano Man is hard charging toward his 75th birthday in May.

And his single, “Turn the Lights Back On.” is such a hit that social media is filled with fan’s covers of the songs. That’s what you get when a real musician writes a real song! I only wish he’d write some more!

Usher’s Super Bowl Show Will Go from High (Alicia Keys) to Low (Maybe Justin Bieber) But Should Have Billy Joel

0

Usher will have a lot of guest stars on his Super Bowl show tonight.

Alicia Keys is locked to reunite with him for their long ago hit, “My Boo.” That much is known.

There’s speculation that Justin Bieber will make a comeback tonight in the show. That’s not so exciting, but Usher and Bieber have been friends since Justin first escaped Canada to wreck havoc in the US. If it happens, it happens.

Usher should have Billy Joel. Usher’s new song, “A Town,” is based entirely on Billy’s “Uptown Girl.” Could Billy do it? He just played the Grammys and a Madison Square Garden show this week. If Taylor Swift could fly to LA from Tokyo, why not?

We won’t be seeing Sean “Diddy” Combs for obvious reasons But Lil Jon, Ludacris, and Jadakiss are strong possibilities. Also maybe Jay Z will pop out on stage. He’s producing the whole thing for Apple.

Usher’s new album, “Coming Home,” is number 1 after its release on Friday. I told you weeks ago this was a beautifully coordinated release plan. Once the half time show is over, all of Usher’s old hits will be crowding for spots on iTunes!

“Oppenheimer” Director Christopher Nolan Wins DGA, Cementing Its Oscar Chances, “Past Lives” Best First Feature

0

Christopher Nolan won the award for directing the Best Feature at the DGA Awards last night.

Celine Song, director of “Past Lives,” won for Best First Feature.

“Succession” and “The Bear” won in the TV awards.

Nolan’s win pretty much cements his place for the Oscars in both Best Picture and Best Director. “Oppenheimer” is going to pick up a lot of Academy Awards including Best Supporting Actor with Robert Downey, Jr.

This is a very winning turnaround from last year when the totally mystifying “Everything Everywhere All at Once” won Best Picture and Best Director, plus three of the four acting prizes. It was as if the entire Academy was hypnotized into selecting a film that no one liked or understood but was told was cutting edge.

“Oppenheimer” is a gripping epic, a true story about a piece of modern history that has resonated into contemporary life. Nolan, who’s made two decades of daring movies, is finally being rewarded, as is Downey and all the artisans who contributed to the film.

I’m a little sad about “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Martin Scorsese. That film remains remarkable on so many levels. I guess Lily Gladstone winning Best Actress will be the payoff. She deserves it. Her performance is so disarming and unexpected, and that’s big considering the other women in that category.

But nothing is 100% certain. Voting hasn’t begun yet, we haven’t had the SAG awards, and there could be wild cards. So don’t place your bets just yet!

Breaking News: Taylor Swift Flew from Tokyo to LA While Jason Kelce Went to an Adele Concert in Las Vegas (Video)

0

Taylor Swift arrived Saturday afternoon in Los Angeles. She took off in Tokyo, where she performed four huge shows and slipped twice on stage.

Swift may stay the night in LA or travel on to Las Vegas. She’s being consulted now. Her arrival in Vegas will save the National Football League.

It’s thought that she slept on the plane. She may have bathed, talked to friends, and written a new album.

At the same time, her boyfriend’s brother, Jason Kelce, went to an Adele concert and sang along.

History will forever note this occasion.

Now the new drama: Will Adele be invited to Taylor’s box at the Super Bowl?

Chills: Watch Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder Perform at Clive Davis’s Annual Pre-Grammy Party

0

The magic of Clive Davis’s annual pre-Grammy dinner is distilled in these two videos from his latest event on Saturday, February 4th, 2024.

Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, and Stevie Wonder, and friends like Andra Day, represent the highest echelon pop music. These videos will send chills up your spine.

This is what you don’t see at the Grammys. And luckily, Clive is making a documentary now of all his galas, with performances no one has seen before except the lucky guests.

Savor these people and their musicianship!

Rock Hall Nominees for Induction: Peter Frampton, Foreigner, Dave Matthews, Lenny Kravitz, Cher Obvious Choices

0

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just announced their nominee for induction for 2024.

Didn’t we just do this?

Anyway, the obvious choices here are Cher, Peter Frampton, Dave Matthews, Lenny Kravitz, and Foreigner.

The rest are nice people but no way. Most of them are modern R&B, and can wait a little longer. There is no one on this list from real rock except Cher. Plenty of R&B classics aren’t in, including Rufus and Carla Thomas, Mary Wells, and Chubby Checker.

Where are Tommy James and the Shondells?

Oasis is a joke. I love Kool & the Gang, but they’re a long shot. Mariah, Mary J, and Sade are not rock and roll.

As for Cher: she told Kelly Clarkson earlier this year, “You know what, I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars … I’m never going to change my mind. They can just go you-know-what themselves.”

But you know, she could be persuaded.

Here are the nominees:

Mary J. Blige
Mariah Carey
Cher
Dave Matthews Band
Eric B. & Rakim
Foreigner
Peter Frampton
Jane’s Addiction
Kool & the Gang
Lenny Kravitz
Oasis
Sinead O’Connor
Ozzy Osbourne
Sade
A Tribe Called Quest

Kanye West Drops Antisemitic Single on iTunes, YouTube, Spotify, Apple, Amazon — Will They Be Brave Enough to Ban It?

0

Kanye west has placed his single, “Vultures,” on all the streaming channels — and they approve of it, apparently.

The main offending couplet in “Vultures” reads: “How’m I antisemitic? I Just fucked a Jewish bitch/I just fucked Scooter’s bitch and we ran her like the Olympics”

Scooter is Scooter Braun, who briefly managed West, and is Jewish.

This is hateful and disgusting, but the streaming services are showing no editorial judgement — or integrity. You can download the single on iTunes, and play it everywhere else.

On YouTube there have already been more than 3 million views. On Spotify, “Vultures” has 35 million streams.

This means all those people are singing along to those lyrics. Imagine if the song referenced any other ethnic group, it would have been banned already. But these companies don’t care about bigotry or hate. They just care that Kanye has a hit.

West dropped another single, also. It’s called “Carnival” and the lyrics are too disgusting to reprint here.

All the lyrics can be found on Genius.com, which reprints all this garbage without question. It’s owned by a guy named Tom Lehman, from Brooklyn.
The most offending rap starts at the 2 minute mark.

Ozzy Osbourne Furious with Kanye West for Taking a Sample of Song After Being Denied Clearance Because “He is An Antisemite”

0

Kanye West took a sample from Ozzy Osbourne for his new, unreleased album called “Vultures” without getting it cleared.

Osbourne is furious. He denied Kanye permission because “he is an antisemite.” Osbourne’s famous wife, Sharon, is Jewish and so are their children and grandchildren.

Good for Ozzy! No one should clear samples for that album.

I told you previously that West said he couldn’t get clearance from The Weeknd either.

Without clearances on samples, the “Vultures” will not see light of day. It is bootlegged around the internet, and anyone stupid enough to buy a ticket can hear it tonight, live at UBS Arena on Long Island.

Michael Jackson Catalog Sale Completed: Total Value Was $600 Mil Lower Than Announced Last Year

I told you last year that the total value of the Michael Jackson music publishing company would not be $1.8 billion. I was right. It’s come in closer to $1.2 billion.

Variety reported the sale of a 50% interest to Sony Music Publishing was coming. Now they say it’s been completed. Sony will pay $600 million for half of Mijac and MJJ Publishing, although even that number seems high.

As I said last year, Michael didn’t write a lot of his own songs. He did amass a catalog of other people’s songs, which make up a big piece of this deal.

Read my original story here. See in that story all the songs in the catalog. Michael got that idea from Paul McCartney back in 1984.

This deal has nothing to do with the Beatles catalog. For a long time, Warner Chappell Music was the administrator for MJJ. This is a nice coup for Jon Platt, who ran Warner Chappell and is now in charge of Sony Music. Platt was feted last Saturday as an Industry Icon at Clive Davis’s pre Grammy dinner. He spoke for a long time but never mentioned this deal!

PS On a non business note, I ran into Paris Jackson at the Warner Music party last week. She is absolutely lovely, and a knockout beauty. Paris is making music and considers herself a rocker, which is fine. But something tells me bigger things are coming for her. Just hold on. Michael did a good job with his kids!
