Yoko Ono: “After John died, David was always there for Sean and me”

0

Yoko Ono’s post at http://imaginepeace.com/archives/21641?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Ironically, Bowie’s producer, Tony Visconti, married Lennon’s ex lover, May Pang after Lennon went back to Ono in 1975. Visconti and Pang have two children.

John and David respected each other. They were well matched in intellect and talent. As John and I had very few friends we felt David was as close as family.

After John died, David was always there for Sean and me. When Sean was at boarding school in Switzerland, David would pick him up and take him on trips to museums and let Sean hang out at his recording studio in Geneva.

For Sean this is losing another father figure. It will be hard for him, I know. But we have some sweet memories which will stay with us forever.

Adele’s Run at Number 1 Ends as David Bowie’s Blackstar, 3 Older Albums Take Over iTunes

0

It took David Bowie’s death to end Adele’s long run at number 1 on the iTunes charts.

The new number 1 album is Bowie’s new “Blackstar” album, released last Friday. Three older Bowie albums are also in the top 10– The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Best of Bowie, and Hunky Dory.

Nine more Bowie albums are in the iTunes top 30 right now. A fitting tribute, but what a loss.

Is Star Wars’ Han Solo Dead or Alive? Harrison Ford Says He’s Just “Resting”

0

Is Han Solo dead? Can it be? You know that was the question I put to Harrison Ford when the Golden Globes ended on Sunday night.

Ford and actress wife Calista Flockhart were caught up in a scrum of A list stars including Mark Ruffalo and Oscar Isaac, all of where trying to get out of the Beverly Hilton ballroom.

So I asked Ford if it was true that Han Solo was really dead? We see him killed with a light saber by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) in “The Force Awakens.” It looks like he falls to his death. But remember, this is fiction– anything can happen to save Han Solo. And it seems unlikely that the final “Star Wars” trilogy would end with a dead Han. Also, patricide is kind of a miserable way to die.

So?

“He’s resting,” Ford told me, after repeating my question. “Is he dead? He’s resting.” He did NOT say, “he’s dead.”

Earlier this week, a source close to Ford indicated to me that he’d be back in the next “Star Wars” installment.

We shall see. My guess is, Han Solo is saved by a force in the galaxy far, far away.

Ricky Gervais Was Bleeped Out When He Asked Mel Gibson What “Sugar T–s” Means on the Golden Globes

0

I ran into Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes HBO after party right after the show was over last night. The party was buzzing with stars from all the HBO shows including Julia Louis Dreyfus, Larry David, everyone from Game of Thrones, plus Rachel McAdams, Oscar Isaac, and so on.

Ricky and I had this rendezvous a few times during his first stint as host of the Globes. When I saw him he spoke before I did: “Have I ever lied to you? No! Because I don’t tell you anything.” He laughed.

He did tell me that the Hollywood Foreign Press asked him to ‘tone it down’ about Mel Gibson. “Me tone it down?” Ricky said to me incredulously. “That WAS me toning it down!” He added: “I didn’t think it was a good idea they asked him to be a presenter.”

Gibson did not come to rehearsal but he knew basically was Gervais was going to say. “He didn’t like it but what can you do?”

Watch this clip. Bleeped out– but what Ricky asked Mel was “What the f– does sugar tits mean?” That’s what Gibson called a black female cop when he was arrested a few years ago.

I thought Gervais dealt with Gibson beautifully. The “Braveface” actor certainly won’t be coming back, that’s for sure. So much for his new image campaign.

Rock Tragedy: David Bowie Dead from Cancer Two Days After His 69th Birthday

0

It’s so awful that David Bowie is gone, it’s hard to express the grief. He was a genius. Simple fact. Now he’s dead two days after his 69th birthday, and two days after the release of his final album. The Bowie canon is a huge part of our culture, so wide ranging probably no one realizes how much Changes and Space Oddity and Young Americans and Fame and Let’s Dance fill our radio waves every single freakin’ day. And that’s just the music. Bowie’s influence on fashion and art are just as far reaching.

Bowie’s website says he was sick for 18 months. But even when his album The Next Day came out on March 8, 2013 he was basically unavailable for press. We knew something was up. He was reclusive and unavailable. The album is filled with great songs, too.

His long time producing associate Tony Visconti posted on Twitter a short time ago that he knew for a year this was coming. I’m sure it was a hard secret to keep. Natalie Cole last week. David Bowie this week. It’s our loss.

“Carol” Writer Phyllis Nagy Plotting Rachel Roberts Biopic with Rachel Weisz

0

EXCLUSIVE Oscar winner Rachel Weisz has a hot project going. She and “Carol” screenwriter Phyllis Nagy are plotting a biopic of late great British actress Rachel Roberts, an Oscar nominee herself and the wife through the 1960s of Rex Harrison.

Roberts, a huge success and much admired, was known for a long resume that included her nomination– for “This Sporting Life” in 1963, to “Picnic at Hanging Rock” and “Murder on the Orient Express.”

The actress committed suicide in 1980 at age 53, rather violently. She left a diary of her entire life right up to the end which was eventually published as “No Bells on Sunday: The Rachel Roberts Journals.”

Nagy is hoping to direct from her own screenplay. Who would play Harrison? Oh come on, Colin Firth seems like the obvious choice but Tom Hiddleston could pull it off.

Watch Madonna’s Live, Beguiling Unplugged Ukulele Version of “La Vie en Rose”

0

Madonna never sings at charity shows, rarely performs live without some kind of backing track or big time accompaniment.

But last night at ex husband Sean Penn’s Haiti fundraiser in Beverly Hills, Madonna got up and sang on stage with just a ukulele. She said her daughter (presumably Lourdes) taught her how to play it. Madonna was absolutely captivating. You can see below what was going on. Justin Bieber, with a weird blonde top knot and aviation wings tattooed on his neck, came in, watched and left as soon as she was done. Penn smoked a cigarette and was mesmerized. His son Hopper (named for Dennis Hopper) was there, also smoking and enjoying the show (very nice kid, 22 years old). Madonna brought her two adopted kids from Malawi.

In the audience: Leonardo (i want that Oscar) DiCaprio, plus best looking couple in town, Rebecca Gayheart and Eric Dane. They left after Madonna to prepare for their 4 year old daughter’s birthday party today…

Here she is:

“Star Wars” Holds Off Leo and the Bear in “Revenant” for Another Huge Weekend

0

Leonardo DiCaprio and his bear did very well on their opening weekend– #38 million. But it wasn’t enough to stop another huge “Star Wars” weekend. Han Solo and friends made $41.6 million and beat “The Revenant” by over three million bucks.

As the saying goes: Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you. Grrr….

“Star Wars” worldwide total is now $1,733,411,043. I assure you, Harrison Ford will be back for the next one.

Madonna to Sean Penn at Haiti benefit: “I loved you when I first laid eyes on you and I still love you just the same”

0

Madonna was ex husband Sean Penn’s date tonight at Penn’s annual Haiti fundraiser. After the revelation that Penn has interviewed international criminal El Chapo, it seems like he can handle his ex. They are thick as thieves, very affectionate, posing for pictures with two of Madonna’s children on the red carpet.

But the real excitement in the Montage hotel ballroom was Madonna’s surprise acoustic performance of “la vie en rose.” She accompanied herself on ukulele, and impressed everyone including Leonard DiCaprio and Justin Bieber (who stopped in briefly but lost interest). Madonna told the crowd, referring to Penn, “I loved you when I first laid eyes on you and I still love you just the same. I just wish you didn’t smoke so many cigarettes.”

Madonna and Penn were married from 1985 to 1989. They have no children together.

Are they back together? No one can say for sure, but the formerly married couple put on quite a show Saturday night while millions were being raised for Penn’s J/P Haiti foundation. They sat almost on top of each other at the main table, with DiCaprio across from them.

Last year, Penn’s date was Charlize Theron, and there were certainly many more celebs. But this year, aside from the main table, Pamela Anderson was the main attraction.

For a short time, when Madonna sang, pop twerp Justin Bieber ambled in and plopped down to watch her performance with a couple of friends. But when Madonna was finished, so was the Beebs. He hopped up and exited. A waiter told me Bieber basically “lives” at the Montage, as well as at a house in Beverly Hills.

Madonna later contributed the ukulele to the live auction. She told the auctioneer that she’d sign it, “lick it,” and “kiss it” when her tour was over in March. She also said she’d put something secret inside it for the highest bidder. “It will be wet inside and dry inside,” she said. When the auctioneer asked who’d made the ukulele, Madonna replied: “None of your f—ing business.”

A lunch with Penn and DiCaprio, plus a night at DiCaprio’s Palm Springs spread, went for the bargain price of $200,000. Of course, many in the room may not have known that Penn had interviewed El Chapo, and might have good anecdotes from that experience.

Penn is devoted to Haiti, and is clearly making progress down. He’s so passionate about it tears came to his eyes twice talking about getting health care for a dying teen. If he’s diverted Madonna’s attention from Kabbalah into this worthy cause, then he’s really scored points. Bravo!
