Nick Cannon Interviews Rabbi, Blames Everything on Hitler Picking Up “Hate from America” and White Supremacy “That Caused the Holocaust”

0

So Nick Cannon, dressed as Aladdin, sits down with Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in a highly edited conversation. They decide the common element in hate of Jews and blacks is “white supremacy.” Rabbi Cooper thinks Nick is being “sincere” but I’m not sure about what.

Nick: “You know what that common hate for the black community comes from and the Jewish community comes from? White supremacy. The idea of eugenics. It’s still placed on us today in America. And that Hitler adopted from –”

Rabbi: “That’s correct it came from America — ”

Nick: “and which caused the Holocaust — ”

Rabbi: “And now being used by the Communist party in China against Muslims.”

Let me get this straight. The Holocaust — the killing of six million Jews– was caused by hate that came from America, that Hitler capitalized on?

This is getting worse, not better. And this ability to produce rabbis from the Wiesenthal Center who are ready to forgive celebrities does not sit well with me, nor should it you. Rabbi Cooper, a few days ago, Nick Cannon was discussing his hatred of Jews. And nothing here addresses the very important Farrakhan matter. Let me hear Nick Cannon renounce Farrakhan, then I’ll listen. If you brought Cannon into any regular synagogue in this country, with any rabbi not from Hollywood, they would not find him “Sincere.”

Thank you, next.

Christopher Nolan’s “Tenet” Taken off Warner Bros Release Schedule Indefinitely as Theaters in Main Markets Remain Closed

0

“Tenet’ is not opening on August 12th. Warner Bros. has taken it off the schedule indefinitely. (Keep refreshing.)

This is getting tiresome. How can Christopher Nolan’s film open if theaters are closed in New York, California, Florida and Texas? It can’t.

The new plan may include opening in countries where COVID is in abeyance and theaters are open.

Listen, I feel for Toby Emmerich and all our pals at Warner’s. Toby says in a statement: “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen. We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world. Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates. Amidst all this continued uncertainty, we have decided to vacate the current dates for our next two releases. We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet,  Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature. We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.”

And the plan for a 10th anniversary showing on Nolan’s “Inception”? It was supposed to play beginning July 31st. And apparently we need to refresh our memories of the older film before we see this one. Not happening now. Stay tuned…

NY’s Friars Club New Scandal, Board Members in Revolt Over Secret Dealings, with the Same Villains as Before

In the most recent chapter of the legendary Friars Club destruction, I told you that the oprganization had lost its 501 (c) 3 standing a foundation or tax free charity. That followed years of deterioration that I originally started reporting on many years ago.

Remember Bruce Charet? He was the guy who was a self-appointed Friars Club celebrity wrangler. No one liked him. Then he caused the club to settle a sexual harassment suit for a rumored $1 million after he repeatedly called in to the club’s receptionist and talked dirty to her.

But the Club didn’t get rid of him. They said they did, but they didn’t. Instead, he was responsible for throwing an unsuccessful Friars Club East tribute to Larry King in Los Angeles at the low level “boutique” Crescent Hotel in Beverly Hills. Charet’s been living there for free. The dinner was a bust.

The owner of the Crescent is a guy actually named Gregory Peck. He once worked for hoteliers Andre Balazs and for Ian Schrager. In 2008 he lost his shirt on the Cooper Square Hotel in New York.  After defaulting on millions in loans, the hotel was sold off.

Last year Peck and his partner/ex-wife, Susan Cronin, were famously responsible for the didn’t-happen 50th anniversary of Woodstock. It was a total disaster.

With Charet staying at the hotel and trading publicity services for free room, he managed also to get Cronin onto the board of the Friars Club as treasurer. And that’s where our new chapter begins.

Dissenting members of the Board have sent a letter to the Governors of the Friars Club on May 17th asking them to invalidate a $9 million loan organized and presented by Cronin. But Cronin, they say, failed to mention that Peck had set up the loan and would receive a commission. They say in the letter that by extension Cronin would benefit from the loan. (There’s no word on what Charet gets out of this.)

To wit, the letter signed by “Concerned Board Members”:

“The signatories to this letter have learned subsequent to February 3, 2020, that Susan Cronin had a serious conflict of interest when the Titan Loan Agreement was purportedly authorized.  Her ex-husband stands to benefit very significantly from the Titan Loan Agreement, because he will collect a share of a large brokerage fee. Ms. Cronin shares the cost and custody of her child with her ex-husband.  Thus, Ms. Cronin will benefit significantly from the Titan Loan Agreement. “

“As this situation has begun to come to light, several of the signatories to this letter have reached out to the other lenders who were approached about making a loan to the Club.  We have learned that their proposals were never seriously followed up on, and that Ms. Cronin showed no interest in pursuing alternative proposals to the onerous Titan Loan.  For example, we have learned that Connect One Bank was offering a $9 million loan to the Club at half the interest rate charged by Titan, and without any brokerage fee.  We believe that this alternative and others must be fully investigated, and we have every reason to believe that, if other lenders are consulted, the Club can obtain financing on far better terms than those included in the Titan Loan Agreement.   We urge the Board to repudiate the unauthorized Titan Loan Agreement, and seek other financing alternatives, which will, in the long run, save the Club hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

And so we come back around to the same question that plagues the Friars Club: why is Bruce Charet still involved? Also the word is that Michael Gyure — who everyone thought was finally gone after a conviction of personal tax fraud and causing the Club to be raided in 2017 by the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York — isn’t gone at all. Is this possible? I’m told Gyure “retired” with a large annual settlement but still lurks and has influence over this mess.

I’ll tell ya, this bunch is too much!

As usual, I invite whoever’s left to drop me a note at showbiz411@gmail.

Rapper Nicki Minaj Announces Pregnancy on Social Media with Joyous Pics of Large Baby Bump

0

Nicki Minaj is “preggers.” That’s what she announced this morning on Instagram with three pictures. She is large and in charge, and obviously very happy. She married her husband, Kenneth Petty, last November. She wrote on caption:
“Love. Marriage. Baby carriage. Overflowing with excitement & gratitude. Thank you all for the well wishes”

Congrats! That baby looks like it’s coming pretty soon, too. And this announcement is quite different than the one from Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, who apparently had a baby and didn’t tell anyone.

PS Google will no doubt send me a warning when they see these pictures. I’ll explain it to them. This is happiness. She’s so happy that she changed her Twitter handle to @MrsPetty.

Anna Wintour In Trouble: Vogue August Issue Has Just 90 Pages, with Only 23 Ad Pages Including One for Vogue.com

0

Anna Wintour may be in a lot of trouble over at Vogue. I’ve heard for a while that Conde Nast wants to bring over the editor of British Vogue, Edward Enninful. They may reason to now.

Anna’s new issue for August may be a bell of bad wether for her. (Get that?)

Olympic star Simone Biles is on the cover in a pretty hard cover gritty sports-like photograph, not fashion oriented at all. (Both Vogue and Vanity Fair each have covers this month with black women. They do pivot fast. And this after years of no black cover subjects.)

Total number of pages is anemic and surprising 90. As in NINETY. I didn’t think you could do perfect binding for 90 pages. I thought you’d have to staple it.

More worrisome is that including the back cover and inside covers there are only 23 pages of ads. And one of them is for vogue.com.

Even the models who appear in Vogue aren’t that thin!

The August 2019 Vogue was 149 pages. It boasted a very snazzy Ariana Grande on the front. If only the magazine had been so kind to Biles.

One astute insider quipped to me:
“The fall fashion issues August and September are the “go to” for all retail advertisers. Gucci is not advertising. Nor is  Louis Vuitton or Ralph Lauren. Vogue is highlighting tacky ads by Kotex, Always and Skechers in their primary fall issue!!!”

She added, in horror: “The back inside page is GEICO !”

Oh, Anna: remember Si Newhouse and Mr. Liberman and Andre Leon Talley? You actually can’t forget Andre Leon Talley now. Irving Penn and Leo Lerman must be rolling in their graves.

UPDATE: Kanye Meltdown at “Campaign Rally” to Get on South Carolina Ballot, Promote New Album Named for Mother

0

UPDATE 7:46pm SUNDAY
Kanye appeared in South Carolina at a “campaign rally” for his fake presidential campaign. He’s trying to get signatures to get on that state’s ballot, but really he’s just making a scene in advance of his “Donda” album.

The sad part is that he was at one point sobbing, carrying on that his father wanted to abort him when his mother mother was pregnant, “But she saved me.” His father is alive, his mother is not, and I’m sure he’s thrilled to hear all this aired to strangers.

He also claimed that “Harriet Tubman never actually freed the slaves, she just had them work for other white people,” and said his brain was too big for his head.

Most of the hour plus event was just an incoherent free form ramble, with onlookers trying to appease him saying “we love you.” No, they just enjoy the spectacle of a bi-polar man with lots of money and no one to say ‘no’ to him, raving like a lunatic. It’s embarrassing. And sad that his family can’t control this. I really wonder sometimes what Kim Kardashian’s endgame is.

EARLIER Kanye West is crazy like a fox.

He’s appearing at a “campaign event” this afternoon in South Carolina and wants to get on the ballot for the presidential election.

But he’s doing it because he’s dropping a new album called “Donda,” named for his mother, on July 24th.

He Tweeted and then deleted the tracklist of songs. He’s also Tweeted his drawings of the White House with the word “Vision.” But he’s a little near sighted as far as his political appeal, since he’s just a Trump supporter looking to cause trouble for the Democrats. It won’t work.

Will the album release be a success? Well, Kanye has turned to religious music over the last year. I’m sure his religious beliefs are deep. But by ditching his raps with large samples from other copyrighted works he’s saving a lot of money in licenses. Kanye’s previous albums were money losers because of all the people who had to be paid. He made a lot of obscure songwriters rich with sample licenses.

Will the album really drop on July 24th? Who knows? Kanye is famous for not keeping to release dates. If it’s not the 24th, he’ll wait til after Beyonce’s release on the 31st.

PS Kanye’s offering a new sneaker for $580 via Adidas. There must be a lot more disposable income out there than I realized. You can have 3 pairs of much better made New Balance 990s for that much money, with change for socks. (And yes, I totally boycott New Balance’s owner, but I wear the shoes.)

Here’s the tracklist for “Donda”:

Beyonce Drops Exciting Trailer for DisneyPlus Visual Album “Black is King” Featuring Lupita Nyong’o, Pharrell, Jay Z, More

0

Beyonce and Disney Plus have released the trailer for her “Black is King” visual album, coming July 31st. It is indeed very visually exciting, lensed by a group of directors including Emmanuel Adjei, Blitz Bazawule, Pierre Debusschere, Jenn Nkiru, Ibra Ake, Dikayl Rimmasch, Jake Nava and Kwasi Fordjour.

Seen in this clip briefly is Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o. But Pharrell, Jay Z, Naomi Campbell, and even Beyonce’s former Destiny’s Child mate Kelly Rowland are featured. (What? No Michelle Williams?)

Sony Music must be PISSED off about this situation, they’ve evidently been cut out of the whole thing after a 27 year relationship. Credits are still for Disney and Beyonce’s Parkwood Entertainment.

The visuals here are indeed exciting, presented like a kaleidoscope. Will there be a plot? Songs? We’ll have to wait and see. But it looks like a cool mid summer gift from Bey. She can always take lemons and make lemonade, we certainly know that.

John Lewis: Civil Rights Leader, Hero, Legend, Congressman Since 1987, Role Model Dies At Age 80

0

Congressman John Lewis, a legend in his own time, has died at age 80 from pancreatic cancer. A 17 term representative from Georgia, John Lewis was a beacon, a shining light in the civil rights movement. His loss is huge, particularly now.

The congressman announced in December 2019 that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

Martin Luther King III has written on Twitter: John Lewis was an American treasure. He gave a voice to the voiceless, and he reminded each of us that the most powerful nonviolent tool is the vote. Our hearts feel empty without our friend, but we find comfort knowing that he is free at last.”

“I have been in some kind of fight ― for freedom, equality, basic human rights ― for nearly my entire life,” Lewis said in a statement at the time. “I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now.”

I was honored to meet and talk to John Lewis over the years thanks to our mutual friendship with Aretha Franklin. Just being in his presence was thrilling. Please, let’s read all the tributes to him, especially from Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

Clinton: “Hillary and I were blessed by his friendship, support and wise counsel. We’ll miss him so much, but we’ll always be grateful that he lived to see a new generation of Americans take to the streets in search of his long sought “beloved community.”

Nancy Pelosi statement:

“Today, America mourns the loss of one of the greatest heroes of American history: Congressman John Lewis, the Conscience of the Congress.

“John Lewis was a titan of the civil rights movement whose goodness, faith and bravery transformed our nation – from the determination with which he met discrimination at lunch counters and on Freedom Rides, to the courage he showed as a young man facing down violence and death on Edmund Pettus Bridge, to the moral leadership he brought to the Congress for more than 30 years.”

Nick Cannon’s Syndicated Talk Show, Scheduled for this Fall, Delayed At Least by A Year Following Scandal

Nick Cannon’s syndicated talk show, set for this September, is off the docket.

Lions Gate and producer Debmar-Mercury have put it off for at least a year, if not forever, following Cannon’s firing by Viacom thanks to his anti-Semitism scandal.

“The ‘Nick Cannon’ talk show will not debut this year,” Lions Gate’s Debmar-Mercury, the show’s producer and distributor, said in a statement Friday. “After conversations with Nick, we do believe that his public comments don’t reflect his true feelings and his apology is heartfelt and sincere. We want to continue the healing process as he meets with leaders of the Jewish community and engages in a dialogue with our distribution partners to hear their views. We are standing by Nick in our hope that by fall 2021 he will be able to use his extraordinary talent and platform to entertain, enlighten and unite his audience on the ‘Nick Cannon’ talk show. Lionsgate and Debmar-Mercury condemn anti-Semitism, racism and hate speech. It runs counter to everything we stand for.”

I doubt we will ever see this show, despite it having been cleared in almost all of the country. This just gives the producers time to let the heat of the scandal wear off before they find a new host. Nick would have to do something he hasn’t done so far– go on a full scale apology tour that actually seems genuine– before it could work.

So this leaves just Fox, owned by Rupert Murdoch, that hasn’t pulled the plug on a Cannon project, “The Masked Singer.” They’re probably freaking out right now because if they do take Cannon off, the audience will revolt. But if they keep him on, the audience will be equally upset. And boy, can you imagine the jokes or even parodies of “The Masked Singer”? I’ll leave them to your imagination.

“30 Rock” Upfront Special, Blocked by 60% of NBC Affiliates, Scores Just 2.5 Mil Viewers

0

Liz Lemon didn’t make her name into lemonade last night.

NBC’s effort to do an upfront promo of new shows based around a “30 Rock” reunion fizzled terribly. Around 60% of NBC affiliates objected and didn’t show the episode. The result was a mere 2.5 million viewers.

A “Young Sheldon” rerun on CBS did around 4 million or more, easily trouncing it.

Who knows what induced Tina Fey and co to go along with this idea? It wasn’t a good one. Money? Aren’t they all rich rich rich at this point? Lorne Michaels? He can say no.

Anyway, it didn’t work out. It was the 8th highest rated show of the night.

Even worse it killed the already suffering “Superstore” and  “Brooklyn 99” which followed in reruns. They may have had their lowest ratings ever. “Brooklyn 99” didn’t even make 1 million viewers, coming in at 883,000.
