Actress Zoe Lister Jones Levels New Accusations of Bad Behavior at “SATC” Star Chris Noth

0

Actress Zoe Lister Jones has nothing good to say about “Sex and the City” actor Chris Noth. She adds to the accusations made this morning by two anonymous women, revealed in Kim Masters’ report in the Hollywood Reporter. She recalls Noth being “consistently sexually inappropriate” with a female promoter at a nightclub he co-owned. She also recalls him being drunk on set at “Law & Order.” Lister-Jones ends her posting with “Fuck Mr. Big.”

Since the Masters report, Peloton has pulled its cheeky ad sending up “Sex and the City.” They made it in a day and ran for three. Now it’s over. What’s next?

Her post is below.

The Real McCoy Returns to “Law & Order”: Sam Waterston Joins 21st Season of Dick Wolf Show Revival

0

The real McCoy– Jack McCoy — is coming back to “Law & Order.”

Sam Waterston, who never stops working (thank god) will join the revival of the Dick Wolf mothership show on February 24th. It’s a victory lap for Waterston, who was with the show for 16 seasons first as ADA McCoy and then moved up to District Attorney. (We still miss Steven Hill as his boss and pal.)

waterston has just finished 7 seasons on “Grace and Frankie” with Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, and Martin Sheen. He has all kinds of awards: 1985 Oscar nominee for “The Killing Fields.” One Emmy and seven other nominations. I Golden Globe and 5 other nominations. He has 1 Tony nom and 1 Drama Desk win and 1 Drama Desk nomination. Whew!

So where has McCoy been since he left the DA’s office years ago? I hope the writers have come up with a great backstory for him. Waterston will be joined by Anthony Anderson, who arrived on “L&O” years ago as he was leaving, plus Jeffrey Donovan from “Burn Notice” and Camryn Manheim and Hugh Dancy. Hopefully we’ll see more faces from the show’s past as well.

So welcome back, Jack. Crime in New York is much worse in many ways now.

Broadway: Michael Jackson Musical Latest to Pause Performances After COVID Hits Cast, Crew, “Tina” Cancels Again, So Does “Hamilton”

0

Add “MJ: The Michael Jackson Musical” to the list of Broadway shows hit with COViD. They’ve canceled today’s matinee and tonight’s show as well.

All of Broadway is suffering from breakout COVID in casts and crews. They’re all being tested and require vaccinations. But who knows about the audiences? They’re coughing in those theaters. Is anyone presenting fake info?

Please tell COVID to Beat It. Get vaxxed.

UPDATE: The “Tina Turner” musical has canceled again today because of COVID.

“Hamilton” has canceled again for today and tomorrow.

Adele “30” Album Finally Displaced At Number 1 By Kelly Clarkson Christmas Album, Single Also Vanquished

0

Adele’s run at number 1 with her “30” album is over, at least for today.

Kelly Clarkson’s “When Christmas Comes Around” has overtaken it on iTunes and is number 1. “30” falls to number 2.

Clarkson’s album was pushed by her TV special last night which looked pretty good. It was an encore– repeat- and the numbers aren’t in yet, but it obviously had some effect on album sales.

Adele is also completely out at number 1 on the singles chart. “Easy On Me” has fallen to number 5 after two months. Adele has no follow up single so far from “30” to replace it. “Oh My God” is at 84, and isn’t coming back. Strangely, her “Water Under the Bridge” from 2015 is at number 54. I don’t know why.

Adele’s “30” album will have a little extra sales over the next two weeks but unless a second single can be cultivated, I think the novelty is over. Now she goes to Vegas, where ticket prices are between $1,000 and $30,000 depending on how crazy you are. That’s where she’ll make her money, playing to people who don’t have it.

Joni Mitchell All-Star Musicares Concert Will Feature Exes James Taylor, Graham Nash, Plus Brandi Carlile, Mickey Guyton, More

0

Joni Mitchell’s all star concert is coming on January 30th and it’s going to be big. Joni is being celebrated by Musicares as their Person of the Year, which means a bunch of stars will assemble at the LA Convention Center in front of a glittering crowd of more stars and execs and fans (yes, you can buy tickets).

So far, Brandi Carlile and Jon Batiste, producers for the night have assembled quite a group. Two of Joni’s ex boyfriends will perform, James Taylor and Graham Nash. Carlile will also perform. They’ve also got Herbie Hancock, Leon Bridges, and Pentatonix, the Black Pumas, Jon Batiste, Maggie Rogers, and Mickey Guyton.

More will be announced later. I wish they’d get Judy Collins to sing “Both Sides Now.” But that probably won’t happen.

“We are crafting a once-in-a-lifetime evening in honor of Joni,” said Laura Segura, Executive Director of MusiCares, in s statement. “I thank each of these artists for lending their talents to celebrate Joni and her impact on the music community.”

The event will be produced by live event broadcast company Lewis & Clark, made up of Joe Lewis and R.A. Clark. Renowned American producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Elizondo will also serve as Music Director for the 2022 Person of the Year gala. Tickets are available to purchase at www.musicares.org/person-year. For more information about MusiCares Person of the Year, please visit www.musicares.org or email personoftheyear@musicares.org.

If you’re in LA and you can be there, this is the event of a lifetime. And it’s quite a tribute to Joni, who’s fought her way back from illness and is thriving. (You can also get her new Archives, Volumes 1 and 2, from Rhino, not to be missed!)

Chris Noth Refutes Article Claiming Long Ago Allegations from Two Women: “No Means No…I Did Not Assault These Women”

0

So here’s Chris Noth, in the press this week for his dying in “Sex and the City” and his Peloton ad.

Two women are making charges of rape against him, one from 2004 and the other in 2015, in The Hollywood Reporter. Kim Masters, an excellent journalist, wrote the story. The timing is a little suspect, though. The women say all the Noth press in the last week triggered them and they stepped forward.

Noth says in a statement: “The accusations against me made by individuals I met years, even decades, ago are categorically false. These stories could’ve been from 30 years ago or 30 days ago — no always means no — that is a line I did not cross. The encounters were consensual. It’s difficult not to question the timing of these stories coming out. I don’t know for certain why they are surfacing now, but I do know this: I did not assault these women.”

At this point, these two women are a decade apart with their stories. Will others turn up or are these just two random allegations? And aren’t we smarter in almost 2022 than we were in 2017? All the facts have to come in.

Star Jeff Garlin’s Enthusiasm Curbed, Fired from “The Goldbergs” For Using Bad Language in Jokes on Set

0

For 20 years, Jeff Garlin has played Larry’s manager on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and he’s always seemed incredibly popular.

But over on ABC’s “The Goldbergs,” Garlin has also been playing the Dad, Murray, for nine seasons. There are kids and women on the set. It seems they didn’t like his language between scenes. And now he’s fired.

Garlin will not return for the balance of the 9th season. It’s doubtful that the show will be renewed anyway for a 10th season without him and without George Segal, who died last year. And their ratings are pretty bad. So this is is just a last minute PR thing for ABC, which has to be politically correct.

It’s unclear how they’ll explain the absence of Murray’s large presence going forward. The rest of the cast is fairly uninteresting, I don’t think they could be picked out of a line-up.

Garlin was asked about his status recently in an online Vanity Fair article. He denied he was being fired, and the magazine couldn’t confirm it. It does seem there were complaints made to HR about him starting at least in 2019 he ignored them.

I’m trying to imagine a crossover between “Curb” and the insipid “The Goldbergs.” It would make a great sketch on “SNL” if they were brave enough to do it. The latter characters would go running for cover and start crying. Or better yet. a “Goldbergs” in which everyone talked like Susie Essman’s character. Now, that would be funny!

PS UPDATE A source says Garlin’s issues were just about using bad language and nothing worse than the word “vagina.” My source says a stand-in was on the set one day, heard Garlin blurting out jokes, and reported him. “It was no one in the regular cast and crew.” Things snowballed from there.

Broadway Struggles with COVID Outbreaks as Even “Hamilton” Shuts Down for a Day

0

Even with vaccine mandates and testing, COVID is affecting Broadway shows.

Today, “Hamilton” joined the list of shows taking a breather after a virus outbreak in the cast and crew. They’ll be back soon.

Other shows have cancelled performances including “Tina: The Tina Turner Musical,” “Ain’t Too Proud,” “Freestyle Love Supreme,” and the revised “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Maybe mercifully paused is “Mrs. Doubtfire,” the panned musical taken from the Robin Williams movie.

I see a lot of people griping about all this on social media. But shutting down for a performance or two is the exact right thing to do. That and daily testing so everyone backstage is protected.

What we don’t want is for Broadway to shut down again for the winter. With “The Music Man” and “MJ The Michael Jackson Musical” on their way in, the shows will have to be more vigilant than ever.

Bruce Springsteen Reportedly Sells Everything, Publishing, Masters, to Sony Music for $500 Mil

0

BREAKING

From small things, mama, big things one day come.

Bruce Springsteen has reportedly sold the rights all his publishing, plus his master recordings, to Sony Music for $500 million.

It may be the most money ever for a solo act, although I’d wager that Paul McCartney could top that. Still, half a billion dollars is breathtaking. It’s about $200 million more than Bob Dylan got, for example. And no one else would be closer.

You know what that means. Everything from “Born to Run” to “Dancing in the Dark,” “Blinded by the Light,” “Fire,” the first two albums, plus “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Hungry Heart,” and so on. Not to mention “Born in the USA.” It’s the kit-and-kaboodle. The story broke in the trade paper, Billboard.

The deal makes Springsteen’s family financially independent forever. I’ve no doubt that the members of the E Street Band will be appropriately taken care of, as always. So will Bruce’s longtime managers. It’s the deal of a lifetime.

Springsteen’s music will be repurposed by Sony in every manner possible, from other artists covering his songs, to commercials like crazy. Get ready for “Glory Days” to be used for everything from Walmart to stain remover to hot dogs.

The sale is a bit of a blow to EMI Music Publishing, which has published Springsteen’s songs for decades. But this deal with Sony also includes the records, and Sony had the upper hand there since Bruce’s entire recording catalog is already there. He’s the rare bird who’s not made records for any other company in his nearly 50 year career. (EMI will be just fine, mind you.)

Now Bruce can have all the free Sony music equipment he wants, I guess.

More details coming…

Don’t Panic Yet: New “West Side Story” Has Excellent Monday & Tuesday at the Box Office

0

Let’s put a stop to the panic.

“West Side Story” had an excellent Monday and Tuesday after a tough weekend. Adults — the main patrons on those days — got up and got out and went to theater.

On Monday, the Spielberg musical made just over $1 million. The fall off from Sunday to Monday was the same or less than other films in the top 20.

Then yesterday, “WSS” had a nice 28% increase, and made $1.3 million. All of this is good. The fact that it’s up over a mil a day and climbing is very positive. This is going to be a long race. “Spider Man” is going to come roaring in and run over everything this weekend. No comparisons please!

Meantime, “WSS” has 11 nominations from the Critics Choice, more to come from other places. In Supporting, Mike Faist and Ariana DeBose are just getting started. So is Rachel Zegler. “WSS” 2.0 is a landmark film, and also so entertaining and enjoyable. Word of mouth is spreading!
