Galaxy Unguarded: Chris Pratt Announces Split from Actress Wife Anna Faris on Facebook (Where Else?)

0

Hollywood is no place for marriage, especially when two ambitious actors are involved. Now Chris Pratt, star of “Guardian of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World” and Anna Faris, star of TV’s “Mom,” are calling it quits. They were married eight years and have a four year old.

Another one bites the dust. On Facebook– where else?– Pratt made the announcement:
Anna and I are sad to announce we are legally separating. We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another.

Chris Pratt and Anna Faris

Well, this was a hyped celeb coupling, that’s for sure. It was used to promote a lot of interviews. Except for one– curiously, last January Pratt mentioned Faris only in passing in his Vanity Fair cover story. That should have set off alarms. It was like she didn’t exist. That must have gone over big time.

In March Buzzfeed– cynical Buzzfeed— even profiled the happy couple.

In April, Faris gushed all over the place when Pratt got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame:

Pratt also really played up being a Born Again Christian. He was ‘saved.’ That didn’t seem to help his marital situation. Of course, it shouldn’t be forgotten that when this couple met, she was married to another actor.

So much PR gone to waste. Who’s next? (And best song from that album– Won’t Get Fooled Again.)

TV Review: Everything Happened Tonight on “Game of Thrones,” Nothing Happened on “Twin Peaks”

0

This is just a rant. But hey– two hours of my life are gone.

“Twin Peaks” was the usual WTF? Nothing happened, as usual. In the first 20 minutes, there was a lot of the two Agent Coopers– Dougie Jones and evilCoop. Don Murray, bless his heart, 88, years old, was the best actor on the show.

During the first part, nothing happened in “Twin Peaks” proper. I guess it was all in Las Vegas, where Dougie’s been living and working in a walking coma. Tom Sizemore — alive, well, not in jail– had dandruff. There was lots of meta talk about coffee and cherry pie. EvilCooper arm wrestled the Jolly Green Giant to death, then killed Ray, who thought he’d killed EvilCooper in Episode 8. There was some significance about a ring and the Red Room.

In the second part, there is an actual return to Twin Peaks. Grant Goodeve, the eldest son on “Eight is Enough,” seems to have franchised Norma’s diner using cheap ingredients. (This is some kind of artistic metaphor.) Norma and Ed are still not together after 25 years. Ed’s eye patched wife Nadine has gotten electic curtains. James sings like Lou Christie at the Roadhouse. It’s awful. Audrey is still debating going to the Roadhouse to find “Billy” from last week. Her husband, a strange little man, indicated that she may be in a coma, hallucinating, or a character in some kind of fiction he’s writing.

For the second week in a row, Sarah Palmer (Grace Zabriskie) has a long, odd scene of no particular meaning. She smokes and drinks a lot.

This should have been the first episode. Shelly spoke to the daughter (Amanda Seyfried) she has with Bobby about pie. Bobby had the second most important line when he told Norma and Ed that he’d found some things belonging to his father. For some reason, the late Major Briggs is key to solving the grueling 18 hour puzzle.

So basically nothing happened unless you really knew “Twin Peaks” minutiae.

Meanwhile, everything happened on “Game of Thrones.” Best battle scene ever. HBO actually paid for real dragons. The harrowing fight left Jaime Lannister’s life as a cliffhanger. When the west coast hears all this and tunes in, ratings will be astronomical. We’ll get them on Tuesday.

Box Office: Apathy Toward Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit” (And No Stars) Brings a Meager $7 Mil Weekend

0

Kathryn Bigelow’s “Detroit” is dead at the box office. Despite glowing reviews, the story of the 1967 Detroit riots brought apathy– just a $7.7 total after a second weekend– the first in wide release.

What happened? Annapurna Films turns out quality movies and this was no exception. But it seems like a lot of mistakes were made– no stars, for one thing. And then, the timing– right after “Dunkirk,” which is a smash, another serious film. And right in the middle of a hot summer.

Of course, everyone involved wanted to tie “Detroit” into the 50th anniversary of the incident. But “serious” movies like this one require attention and a lot of preparation. The fall and winter are better times generally to get that attention.

“Detroit” also had odd press rollout. No New York premiere. A Detroit premiere and one in Atlanta– those are nice, but not where you capture press attention. So “Detroit” counted on the great reviews. And they didn’t work.

Now what? Bring it back in November for Oscar consideration. For now, however, “Detroit” is gone. Try and see it before it leaves theaters. Bigelow and Mark Boal should never be ignored.

Television Critics Awards: Scientologist Elisabeth Moss Walked Out of Room As Leah Remini Won Reality Award for “Aftermath”

0

The Television Critics Awards last night apparently had some drama after all. According to a Tweet from Ellen Thompson, the wife of TV Line’s Dave Nemetz, actress Elisabeth Moss– a Scientologist since birth — walked out of the room when Leah Remini won the award for reality TV. Remini’s A&E TV series “Aftermath” tells the story of how brutally Scientology has treated its followers.

Moss has never been a vocal Scientologist, unlike Tom Cruise, John Travolta and a number of other celebrities. She’s kept it mostly to herself. But Remini’s series obviously hit a sore spot for her.

Eric Bolling Yanked from Fox News After Allegations That He Sent Dirty Pix to Female Colleagues

0

Eric Bolling has been suspended from Fox News. There are allegations inside 1211 Sixth Avenue that he sent photos of male genitalia to female colleagues.

Bolling’s suspension follows Bill O’Reilly’s dismissal, Roger Ailes’s ouster and death, Bill Shine’s exit, and so on. Fox News is now “run” by Suzanne Scott, who I guess has no choice but to kick to the curb anyone associated with sexual harassment now. Fox also recently removed Fox News president Jamie Horowitz. It’s a new world.

Meantime, Kimberly Guilfoyle has been linked with Anthony Scaramucci, former White House Director of Communications. On Saturday I reported that she tried to help The Mooch buy a $9 million apartment in her tony building, the Beresford. He was rejected. Co-op board members were confused whether was his wife, girlfriend, or what.

Oh, Fox. The only scandalous thing that went on when I was there was Judith Regan having an affair with former police commish Bernie Kerik. That did not end well.

Bolling will not be missed. He’s an unrepentant racist. Search him on YouTube. There are clips galore. Buh bye Eric. Another one bites the dust.

Anthony Scaramucci Went Co-op Shopping with Fox News’ Kimberly Guilfoyle Before Divorce– And Was Rejected!

0

scaramucciEXCLUSIVE: The Mooch was mooching on his close friendship with Fox News’s Kimberly Guilfoyle’s well before his wife filed for divorce. I’ve confirmed that in June — a few weeks before his life blew up publicly– Anthony Scaramucci was turned down by the co-op board at the tony Beresford apartment house on Central Park West. The woman with whom he approached the board was not his wife, but Fox News’s Kimberly Guilfoyle, who lives in the building on the 3rd floor in a $3.4 million apartment.

Scaramucci actually bought the apartment–on the 20th floor with breathtaking views and eight rooms (three bedrooms, three bathrooms)– for $8.9 million. The apartment is still marked “In Contract” on Street Easy. The Mooch was getting a good deal, too. The original asking price in March 2016 was $10.5 million.

Past and present tenants of the Beresford include Jerry Seinfeld, John McEnroe and Patti Smyth, Calvin Klein, and Meryl Streep. It’s one of the poshest buildings in the city and among the top two or three addresses on the Upper West Side (the Dakota still outranks it).

After he was turned down, Scaramucci is said to have approached other similar buildings on the Upper West Side with Guilfoyle by his side. Sources I’ve talked to were confused, thinking Guilfoyle — ex wife of Gavin Newsom, former mayor of San Francisco– was his wife. (This was before the Mooch’s fame skyrocketed him to a national platform.) That seems to have been one reason, at least, for the Bereford turn down.

“They didn’t understand if he was in the middle of a divorce, or what was going on,” says a source. “It seemed like she was his girlfriend and he was getting divorced.”

Another source observed: “If he was turned down in June, he was looking for a place at least in May.”

As it turned out, Scaramucci’s actual wife, Deidre Ball, filed for divorce on July 6th on Long Island. At the time she was nine months pregnant with their second child. Their older kid is three years old.

It’s unclear if Ball knew her husband was shopping for a new apartment in June, and that Guilfoyle was involved. Her attorney had no comment yesterday and could not be reached today. When I emailed Guilfoyle today, I received a mobile phone call from someone named “Sean” who asked who I was and said he’d received a text to call me. On checking, the number– which came up as “Fox News Channel”– belongs to Sean Hannity.

Scaramucci was appointed White House communications director in late July. An incendiary interview he gave to The New Yorker , coupled with news of his divorce, followed immediately. He lasted 10 days on the job. The Mooch was removed by new Chief of Staff General John Kelly with approval of Donald Trump, who appointed him.

Trump and Scaramucci were together at the Boy Scouts Jamboree speech on July 24th when Ball delivered their child. Scaramucci sent her a congratulatory text. According to reports, he didn’t see the baby for six days.

In the Jamboree speech, Trump said: “As the Scout law says, a scout is trustworthy, loyal — we could use some more loyalty I will tell that you that.”

Updates will be added as needed…

Norman Lear Compares Donald Trump to Archie Bunker in Twitter Post: “Remind you of anyone?”

0

Norman Lear has made it clear he doesn’t like Donald Trump. He will accept the Kennedy Center Honor but will not attend the White House reception with Trump.

He writes on Twitter: “I could never turn my back on the @kencen. It represents the Arts and Humanities which mean everything to me. Of course, I’m accepting……the honors. What I’m not accepting is the @WhiteHouse reception with @realDonaldTrump.”

On Twitter Lear has also posted a video of his most famous creation, Archie Bunker, comparing him to Trump. Actor Carroll O’Connor perverts the Statue of Liberty poem just as Trump lackey Stephen Miller did this week:

Mariah Carey Finally Vindictated: Irv Gotti Admits How Tommy Mottola Used Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule Against Her for Revenge

0

I just stumbled on this. But music fans with long memories will recall that once Mariah Carey left Tommy Mottola he did everything to mess with her. Now on Viceland producer Irv Gotti explains exactly how Mottola used Jennifer Lopez to upset Carey’s career. The story centers around Lopez’s recording of “I’m Real.” According to Gotti, Carey had recorded with Ja Rule. Mottola found out and ordered Gotti to make a fast duet featuring Ja Rule with Lopez.

In fact, Mariah had already recorded “If We” with Ja Rule for the soundtrack to the movie “Glitter” in spring 2001. When she heard Tommy had scooped her– he pushed “I’m Real” out to blunt Carey’s debut on EMI Records — Carey had an emotional breakdown. She’d been recording with rapper for years against Mottola’s advice. Now he had stolen her thunder. Gotti explains in the clip how Mottola pushed so hard to get his revenge that he loaned Gotti and Lopez his private plane.

The “Glitter” movie was a bust and took the soundtrack with it. (I don’t think it’s even on Spotify.) JLO had the hit, and Mottola– at least briefly– had the satisfaction of sidelining his ex wife. But Mariah had a happy ending: a $50 million buyout from EMI, a resurrection at Def Jam, and success and happiness that continues to this day.

Gotti first admitted this in 2002 in XXL Magazine— and I wrote about it then. But this video interview is new. Check it out at around 2:13 on the video.

Exclusive: Frank Ocean, Director Spike Jonze Collaborating on Hot Ticket Fashion Week Show for Trendy Opening Ceremony Clothes

0

Fashion: it’s not the Yankees, let’s put it that way. I know very little about it. But Opening Ceremony, according to the New Yorker, is as hip as it could be. The New Yorker called them a Mom and Pop shop, but the creators also run Kenzo and are part of big money fashion. BIG money. They make eccentric clothes for young people and depend on celebrities to push their message. All good. Why not?

BIG money means they can afford to pay director Spike Jonze (“Her”) and pop star Frank Ocean to oversee their Fashion Week show next month. (I’m sorry to miss it, but Fashion Week is simultaneous to the Toronto Film Festival.) I’m told the group has selected the always hip La Mama theatre in the East Village as their venue rather than stage their show in the Fashion Tent (behind Lincoln Center, I think, still.)

This will be theater, in other words. The choreographer is Ryan Heffington, who won awards for working on music videos for Sia and Arcade Fire. He is credited with the movement scenes in this summer’s terrific movie, “Baby Driver.”

Whatever this turns out to be, it’s going to be a hot, hot ticket. I’m told that there will be two performances on opening night (September 10th) followed by several days of shows for as long as a week. It’s going to be heavily scripted, with characters that, of course, challenge gender and sex. Sounds cool.

Sony May Reverse Good News of “Spider Man,” “Baby Driver” with Potential “Dark Tower” Disaster

0

Sony’s had a good summer up til now. “Spider Man: Homecoming” and “Baby Driver” have been box office hits and critical hits as well.

But now comes “The Dark Tower” with Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba. Sony says the budget was $66 million, which seems pretty low.

Even lower than that budget number is the one on Rotten Tomatoes–a 20 as of night now. And that’s optimistic considering that some of the negative reviews still got a couple of “fresh” tomatoes.

Overall, “Dark Tower”– two years in the making — sounds like it’s pretty bad. A Monday night premiere was closed to press, which always means one thing: Yikes! (If only studios understood that we get it right away.)

Sony insiders insist “Dark Tower” was made on the cheap, and that they hope for a $20-$25 million opening weekend. Add that to foreign ticket sales to those lovely international audiences that don’t understand or care what’s going on. We’ll see how that works out.
