“Jurassic World Dominion” Premieres in Hollywood, Director Says: “I’m a deep nerd”

0

“Jurassic World Dominion” had its old fashioned and most welcome premiere at the TCL in Hollywood Monday night. Stars Chris Pratt, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, DeWanda Wise, Mamoudou Athie, Campbell Scott and the lovely Bryce Dallas Howard along with the director Colin Trevorrow introduced the film. The intro got off to a cheeky start when the theater announcer welcomed the crowd to “Jurassic World Domain.” He corrected himself but Trevorrow saw low comedy hanging fruit and picked it; he then quipped to the crowd “Welcome to Jurassic Park Domain!”

Trevorrow recounted how over the nine years he’s been making these films that, “from children to adults, there is something about Dinosaurs that makes you reach out. Dinosaurs remind us of how very small we are. It’s a very lofty idea; going through the world thinking everything we do is so important and permanent. Dinosaurs are there to remind us that’s its very fleeting, we are just a small part of the wave of time.”

The director paid tribute to Universal Pictures for their support in making sure the film got seen in a theater. “We have found ways to share our experiences with each other over campfires, we tell stories and in the past 100 years or so we have done it in movie theaters. We have projected our lives on the big screen. Until March 2020 when all of that stopped, we all wondered if we were ever going to do it again. Universal said that was not going to happen. I’m so grateful for that support, and for Steven Spielberg for his faith and trust.”

Trevorrow then when thanked “the incredible crew and all those who rose to the occasion to put this industry back to work.”

We caught up with Colin at the after party; they closed Hollywood Blvd down for the soiree. He told us his next project is a prehistoric sci-fi adventure about Atlantis. Colin has said that “I’m a deep nerd. Atlantis is the only thing that equals Dinosaurs for me.” We then chatted with Bryce Dallas Howard and were joined by the respected Producer Keri Selig who introduced Bryce to her guests, Ukrainian refugees she was sponsoring. Bryce was characteristically gracious and wonderful chatting them up. Keri’s husband, Keith Addis, has been managing Jeff Goldbum for decades. Campbell Scott, who plays the villain of this piece, was accompanied by his son, Malcolm. “Jurassic World Dominion” is being released wide on June 10th and is loads of fun.

No Justice: Justin Bieber Cancels His Tour Dates This Week: “My sickness is getting worse”

0

There’s no Justice tour for Justin Bieber this week.

The pop singer has cancelled three dates on the tour starting tonight through Friday. He said on his Instagram Stories that “my sickness is getting worse.”

Is it COVID? Is it anxiety? There were reports the other day that Bieber and his wife were turned away from Carbone, one of the three noisiest restaurants in New York the the other day. Maybe he’s depressed about that.

Anyway, let’s hope Justin gets better fast. His next shows are June 13th and 14th at Madison Square Garden, so he’s giving himself some time to recuperate.

Broadway: “Evan Hansen,” “Tina Turner” Musicals to Close This Summer, Early Fall: More to Come

0

Broadway is really subject to the adage Only the Strong Survive.

The pandemic break hit all the shows hard, and now the ones that really got clobbered are starting to close.

First up is “Tina: the Musical.” The show about Tina Turner was a big hit when it opened. But that long break was too much for it to regain momentum. Plus, Tony winner Adrienne Warren finally left the show last winter. Since then box office has been on the decline, playing last week to half full houses. “Tina” will close in mid August.

“Dear Evan Hansen” was cannibalized by a movie version that came out during the pandemic. Now the musical is closing in September. The movie exposed all of the stage show’s flaws, unfortunately, and wiped away business. Last week “Evan Hansen” played to 70% of capacity.

All of Broadway was down last week compared to the prior week. Grosses were off by $4 million, and that came to $29 million plus change. The weekly gross should be up around $33 million or more.

Next to wave the white flag: “Paradise Square.”

Johnny Depp Sends Video Message to Fans After Trial Victory: “We did the right thing together, all because you cared”

0

Johnny Depp has sent a video and message to fans. This is second offering. A few days he posted a typewritten letter to Instagram thanking everyone for their support.

This victory lap is very nice, and let’s hope he doesn’t destroy Amber Heard financially. Also, maybe the fans will be invited to his private island.

To all of my most treasured, loyal and unwavering supporters. We’ve been everywhere together, we have seen everything together. We have walked the same road together. We did the right thing together, all because you cared. And now, we will all move forward together. You are, as always, my employers and once again I am whittled down to no way to say thank you, other than just by saying thank you. So, thank you. My love & respect, JD

Sunny Day! “Sesame Street” Musical Coming to off Broadway This Fall for Limited Run

0

Next year’s Obie Award for Best Actor may go to… Elmo!

“Sesame Street: The Musical” is set for a limited run off Broadway this fall at Theater Row.

Elmo will star in it along with Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, Grover, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, The Count, Gabrielle, and a host of Honkers, Martians.

The show is produced and directed by Jonathan Rockefeller of Rockefeller Productions, who seems to have a long association with Winnie the Pooh.

Considering all the Muppets movies and on over the years it’s amazing there’s never been a proper Sesame Street movie. It’s certainly good news for estates of Jim Henson and Joe Raposo. I hope.

No word yet on the plot, whether Miss Piggy will get an 11 o’clock number, or how Bert and Ernie will be involved.

Producer and Creator Rockefeller, who is Australian, says in a statement, “We are so honored and proud to partner with Sesame Workshop to bring Sesame Street’s first original Off-Broadway musical, along with its iconic characters, to the stage. We believe it will be a production for children and fans of ALL ages to embrace and enjoy.”

“As the world begins to open up, families and fans are looking forward to live, high-quality in-person experiences with their favorite brands, and Sesame Workshop is answering the call with the expansion of our themed entertainment offerings,” said Jennifer Ahearn, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Themed Entertainment. “With its critically-acclaimed productions and keen eye for presenting beloved stories, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Rockefeller Productions on a stage show that will have the young and young-at-heart singing, dancing, and celebrating with their Sesame Street friends.”

Kevin Spacey’s Bad Rapp: Judge Lets “Rent” Actor’s Civil Suit Against Oscar Winner Proceed

0

Kevin Spacey may have finally been backed into a corner he can’t get out of.

Federal New York judge Lewis A. Kaplan says “Rent” actor Anthony Rapp’s civil suit against the two time Oscar winner can go forward despite the alleged incident taking place in 1986. Rapp says that back then when he was just 14 Spacey attacked him.

The judge says that Rapp sufficiently alleges that Spacey acted to gratify sexual desire during an encounter at a Manhattan party. Rapp has alleged that Spacey placed a clothed Rapp on a bed and briefly put his own clothed body partially beside and partially across Rapp’s before Rapp “wriggled out,” got up, and left the premises.

Spacey is also facing multiple charges in London. Last year he himself wiggled out of a case on Nantucket that the alleged victim’s mother says was dismissed without a settlement payment.

But Rapp isn’t likely to dismiss, recant, or settle. He’s pursuing something from a long time ago, he doesn’t need any money, and he’s sure of his accusation.

UPDATE: Kellyanne Conway Continues Book Drops Out of Amazon Top 100 Despite NYT Rank

So, I told you last week EXCLUSIVELY that Kellyanne Conway’s book was a bust. “I Lied All the Time” — no the title is “Here’s the Deal” — sold 25,000 copies in its first week. It was a poor showing.

Every outlet that could swiped that story from this column and announced the numbers two days later without credit. This is how it goes.

Today I can tell you that “Alternative Facts: My Story” has dropped out of the Amazon top 100 to number 122. This is after a brief moment last week following my story when the book mysteriously rebounded for a day to number 17. Someone check Claudia Conway’s bedroom for large boxes.

“The Massacre at Bowling Green” is listed as the number 1 non fiction book on the NYTimes Best Seller list. This makes no sense. The number 1 non ficiton book on their list is “My Loofah is Missing,” aka “Killing the Killers” by Bill O’Reilly. The same book is number 22 on amazon. You do the math. You’ll need an abacus.

MTV Movie Awards Score Anemic 248K Viewers on Main Channel, Just 1.4 Mil Over Several

0

The MTV Movie and Video Awards went largely unwatched on Sunday.

Just 248,000 people tuned into the main MTV channel. Over several channels including BET, VH1 and Nickelodeon, the total was just under 1.4 million. And that’s being charitable.

The numbers were about the same as last year’s.

That’s anemic number for a production that used Jennifer Lopez, JLO, as bait. They even gave her Best Song from a movie, which was a joke.

The bigger joke was giving Olivia Rodrigo Best Documentary over the Beatles’ “Get Back.”

But the show as based on who the producers could convince to participate. Most of the winners and nominees weren’t present. They cared as little as the TV audience.

Broadway: Bad News as Beanie Feldstein Out of “Funny Girl” Again, This Time with COVID

0

Bad news for fans of Beanie Feldstein. The usually effervescent star of “Funny Girl” will be out the rest of this week.

On Instagram, Beanie says she’s tested positive for COVID, so for the safety of cast and crew she’s home for the time being.

Julie Benko, Beanie’s understudy, will take over. Benko has filled in Beanie a few times already since the show opened in late April.

Beanie’s timing is right for being off the Great White Way this week. It’s Tony Awards week and she was, sadly, not nominated for her performance. She should have been acknowledged for doing a fine job. But instead the “Funny Girl” revival was largely ignored by awards groups.

Let’s hope Beanie gets well fast and returns to the show quickly.

Welcome Back: Demi Lovato Releasing New Music, Album Title That Can’t Be Printed

0

Yes, Demi Lovato is coming back. Her new single drops this week. The album follows soon after.

Demi, looking tough!

Demi will perform the single, “Skin of My Teeth,” on Thursday’s Jimmy Fallon “Tonight” show. It drops at that moment on streaming and downloads.

The song better be good: it has five writers! Five! How the heck did Bob Dylan, Carole King, Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson write all those songs without a committee?

The album, due August 19th, will be called “Holy FVCK,” So I can’t put it in a headline because Google just sorts it right out. Why do this? It’s so stupid. But this way we know she’s cool, man! V is for Very Cool !

Dig the cover art and PR photos. Demi’s in red leather, looking tough!
