DNC 3rd Night Ratings Trump RNC by 29% Thanks to All-Star Producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner

Share

The Day 2 ratings of the DNC across all platforms again wiped out the numbers from the RNC last month.

Both Days 1 and 2 came in around 20 million.

Last night the ratings were 11.7 million vs RNC third night. That’s a difference of 29%.

Tonight will be off the chart.

This is all thanks to producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner. You might know Glenn from a few years ago when he proposed to his then girlfriend during the Emmy Awards.

Ricky is the son famed music producer and publisher Don Kirshner, to whom we really owe thousands of hits from the Brill Building era. Don Kirshner also hosted Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert back in the 70s and 80s. Paul Shaffer played him on “SNL.”

These guys have multiple Emmy Awards for producing all the major awards shows over the years as well the New Year’s Eve special on ABC.

Weiss and Kirshner have made the DNC a joy — a word that you heard about 50 times a night. (I even have a drinking game for “joy.”) This DNC could win a bunch of Emmy Award itself for its authentic feeling of relief and celebration. I’ve been to three DNC’s — 2000, 2004, and 2008 — and none of them had this kind of swagger.

Kudos to this duo for making appointment TV during what is usually the dullest week of the year. And shame on the broadcast networks for not giving them the 8 to 10pm block. Their show is more entertaining than reruns of mediocre programming from earlier in the year.
