Ellen DeGeneres really has a problem picking up on social cues.
She’s worth $500 million and is known for not only her talk but for flipping multimillion dollar homes.
So when Ellen donated just $5,000 to a Go Fund Me account for a recently passed ex producer, fans and enemies have gone wild.
Matthew Wright died suddenly the other day at age 52. No one knows the cause, but I was told he died in his sleep. Friends had seen him the previous day.
Wright worked for DeGeneres for 16 years as an executive producer. He also held jobs with Drew Barrymore, and then for Jennifer Hudson’s talk show. He has a long list of credits including work for Oprah, and the Obamas.
Wright’s family has been successful raising $95,605 against a $50,000 ask, so they did well.
But Ellen’s donation sticks out like a sore thumb now. It’s not even the top donation, which is now $10,000 (and could be from Hudson or the production company).
Fans of DeGeneres are outraged that she didn’t just offer to pay for Wright’s funeral in total. Now her donation looks half-hearted at best.
DeGeneres could have turned around a lot of bad residual feeling about since her talk show ended. She was accused to causing a toxic workplace, and disrespecting her employees.
Instead, Ellen has come off badly again.
Condolences to Wright’s family.
