Billie Eilish Brooklyn Listening Party for New Album Attracts At Least 86,000 Requests

0

This morning Billie Eilish announced listening parties in New York and Los Angeles for her new album.

“Hit Me Hard and Soft” releases on May 17th at midnight. So Billie — and I guess Finneas — will appear in those cities on May 15th and 16th.

The Brooklyn Barclays Center “show” has attracted at least 86,000 requests on Ticketmaster. Somehow, from those requests, offers will be made to fans.

Eilish told Rolling Stone this month that there are no singles coming from the album. Fans will decide what tracks they like the most, and send them onto iTunes, etc. There’s no impact single for radio.

This could be tricky, especially if there is no actual standout single. When artists do this with albums they tend to fade faster. But it’s her decision. Maybe it will change if one song turns out be to a really catchy favorite.

Not included: the siblings’ “What Was I Made For,” which won the Oscar and Grammy and was a big hit.

Spoiler Alert: Superman Puts His Boots on One at a Time in First Still from New Movie

0

It turns out Superman puts his boots on one at a time, like everybody else.

In the first still from the next “Superman” movie, actor David Corenswet is very carefully pulling on a red boot in the 2024 version of the Superman uniform. It would have been cooler to see him putting them on two at a time, or jumping into them. He looks like he’s in the Metropolis Florsheim shop.

The new outfit? It looks a lot like the old outfits, just spiffed up. If Lois Lane from the old TV show saw this guy on the street, she’d recognize him in a minute!

No word on whether this movie will explain why Superman isn’t Super Man, like Spider Man. Was it a name he got on Ellis Island? Instead of remaking the Krypton story over and over why doesn’t someone remake “The Mole Men”? Now, that would be cool! Stephen Miller could star.

Broadway: In the Bizarro World, “The Great Gatsby” — No Tony’s — Gets 11 Audience Nominations, But “Suffs” and “Doubt” are Out

0

In the world of the Tony Awards, musicals like “The Great Gatsby,” “The Notebook,” and “Back to the Future” are considered, well, “bad,” and get no nominations.

But in Broadway.com’s Audience Award world, they are hits!

Almost all of the nominees for the Audience Awards were panned by critics, ignored by other awards groups, or taken seriously. But somehow they’ve all sprung back to life with this group. I hope all the nominees got expensive gift baskets.

Even “The Wiz” pulled off two noms, for Wayne Brady and Deborah Cox. “Lempicka,” which just posted a closing notice, got some love, too.

The Audience Awards love Big Stars! Four of the five leading men in a play got no Tony nominations. Serious work like “Suffs” and “Doubt” received one nom each. Of course!

Isn’t it nice? Everyone gets something.

No Strike! Conde Nast Union Reaches 11th Hour Deal! Anna Wintour Can Keep Wearing Sunglasses Inside! Bathroom Breaks Allowed!

Our long national nightmare is over!

Conde Nast has reached an agreement with the union representing magazine employees. There will be no picket line today at the Met Gala.

Whew!

It only took the spectre of celebrities in Halloween costumes having to walk past strikers to bring Conde Nast to its knees. The literally waited until the last minute to give the Union some of their demands.

Top of the list was Anna Wintour gets to keep wearing sunglasses indoors.

Also employees will be allowed to eat occasionally!

Here is an actual statement from the Union:

“WHEN WE FIGHT, WE WIN: We are excited to announce that we have a tentative agreement with Conde Nast on our first contract. Our pledge to do ‘whatever it takes’ ahead of the Met Gala moved the company and our progress at the bargaining table kicked into high gear…

“Just some of our wins: $61,500 starting salary floor; an end to the two-tier permalance system, just cause, expanded bereavement leave, two more weeks of family leave (14 total) and $3.3 million in total wage increases…For our colleagues on the layoff list we secured eight weeks severance, three months of COBRA coverage or, in lieu of COBRA, a one time lump sum payment; an additional $1,000 payment and much more.

“Our persistent fight for our rights and for the best win possible is why we have this tentative agreement. Ratification will take place this week.”

Well, mazel tov! If they’re happy, we’re happy! I did think COBRA was automatic for at least six months, but what do i know?

And now, on with the show!

Does JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg Want a Political Career or an Oscar? Posts Videos Attacking RFK Jr in Different Accents, Characters

What is happening with Jack Schlossberg?

Several people sent me links to various videos the son of Caroline Kennedy — and grandson of John F. Kennedy Jr. — has posted to social media in the last week.

The videos are peculiar to say the least for a family known to play it close to the vest and stay away from media. If grandmother Jackie Kennedy Onassis saw these, I don’t think she’d be amused.

The videos are notable for Schlossberg trying out more characters and accents than Meryl Streep. He attacks cousin Robert Kennedy Jr more times than necessary, frankly.

Schlossberg does mix it up with the accents. Even though he told a political gathering in Queens recently that he identifies as Irish, he certainly can do a Brooklyn Jewish accent with the best of them. In the bottom video, there’s also an odd reference to his mother marrying “a Jewish man” — Edwin Schlossberg, whom Jack resembles.

I’m not clear on what Schlossberg does for a living at age 31. But these videos will trail him if he decides to have a political career, that’s for sure.

There are plenty more videos and photos including many at @jackuno on social media. TMI should be Schlossberg’s middle initials.

Kristi Noem Publisher Says Removing Passage About Her Meeting Kim Jun Un Immediately At Author’s Request (UPDATED)

0

UPDATE: After getting battered in questions today on Face the Nation, South Dakota Governor Kristin Noem is removing from her new book that she ever met with Korean dictator Kim Jung Un.

EARLIER

Kristi Noem (rhymes with “gnome”) was a guest today on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

Noem is the governor of a state once run by the great George McGovern. How can the people there hold their heads up? She is an embarrassment to South Dakota and to the whole country.

Interviewed by Margaret Brennan, Noem hung herself by own her petard. She was publicizing her “book,” which will come out on Tuesday and is apparently full of fiction.

To Brennan, Noem lied and obfuscated like crazy. She immediately complained on Twitter immediately:

“This morning in our 15-minute interview, Margaret Brennan interrupted me 36 times — once every 25 seconds on average. But when liberals like @gretchenwhitmer and @SpeakerPelosi
are on @FaceTheNation, they aren’t interrupted once.

“In the fake news media, there are two sets of rules, and conservative are always treated differently. That’s why Americans don’t trust the Fake News.”

Noem lied at every turn. When Brennan asked her about meeting Korean dictator Kim Jung Un, the governor replied: “I’m not going to talk about my specific meetings with world leaders, I’m just not going to do that.” The fact is, they never met, but Noem had included the fake meeting in her book.

When asked about shooting her dog, Noem suggested President Biden should shoot his own dog.

Noem: “Well, number one, Joe Biden’s dog has attacked 24 Secret Service people. So how many people is enough people to be attacked and dangerously hurt before you make a decision on a dog? And —

BRENNAN: — Well he’s not living at the White House anymore–

NOEM: — That’s the question that the President should be held accountable to.

BRENNAN: — You’re saying he should be shot?–

NOEM: — That what’s the president should be accountable to.

How can the people of South Dakota not be nauseated by this woman? How have so many local governments in this country fallen prey to completely despicable people with low IQs, no respect for life, or dignity? It’s surreal.

The book is called “No Going Back.” If you buy it, that’s what will happen — there’s no getting that twentysomething bucks back. Noem told Brennan she refuses to retract all the bogus claims included in the book.

Jerry Seinfeld Flies 3,000 Miles to Fix a PR Problem on “Saturday Night Live” (Watch Video)

Jerry Seinfeld has good advice from someone in public relations.

He flew 3,000 miles back from Los Angeles to New York yesterday so he could appear on “Saturday Night Live.”

Seinfeld, who is generally beloved, has been putting his foot in his mouth lately after doing too much press for his movie, “Unfrosted.” It used to be you rarely saw Seinfeld in the media. But for the last two weeks it’s been impossible to get away from him.

On Thursday night he was on stage at Netflix is a Joke in Los Angeles, still promoting the movie — which has very negative reviews that come mostly as a reaction to his comments about the movie business, I think.

Last night he popped up on “Weekend Update” trying to defuse the situation. This was fine, but now it’s time to take a break. He also owes Hugh Grant an apology for constantly saying he was hard to work with. (What was that all about?)

What did Jerry say that caused all of this trouble? In an interview with GQ about the movie biz:

“It was totally new to me. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work. They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.”

Doubling down, he continued: “Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked. Now we’re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.”

Conde Nast Workers Picketing Now at Museum Warn Monday Trouble: “Meet us at the table or We’ll Meet You at the Met”

Picketing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is going on right now, even in the rain.

The Conde Nast Union is out there because they say the publisher will not meet them at the bargaining table and hammer out a new contract.

The Union warns that they will be out there tomorrow when Anna Wintour tries to put on her glittery Met Gala. Celebrities will have to walk past these people. If they do, they will incur the wrath of a lot of fans around the world.

What a mess: Conde workers are angry. I knew they would be, seeing that there are layoffs galore while Wintour spends millions on the Kardashians arriving in Halloween costumes.

The Conde Nast Union is out there today supporting the Model Alliance, and the Fashion Workers Act. Models have rights, too! As they point out: “Currently, models work through management companies in New York which, unlike talent agencies, escape licensing and regulation.”

Will models like Kaia Gerber and Gisele Bundchen cross that line tomorrow?

Star Wars 1999 Phantom Starring Hated Jar Jar Binks Number 2 at Box Office, Beats Fading “Challengers”

0

When “Star Wars: Attack of the Phantom Menace” was released in 1999, there was a lot of backlash. The Jar Jar Binks character was relentlessly mocked, and remains the most loathed character of the franchise.

And yet: “Phantom” was re-released to theaters this weekend for its 25th anniversary and finished in second place. “Phantom” beat everything including last week’s number 1, the fading “Challengers.”

Maybe Jar Jar Binks deserves an apology.

The number 1 movie this weekend is “The Fall Guy,” which had a surge on Saturday night after a middling opening. Total was $28.5 million, which is three or four million higher than estimated. The Saturday increase by $3 million more than anticipated drove the weekend. The estimate for today is back to normal around $7 million.

“Challengers,” meanwhile, hasn’t really caught on despite having a huge PR push. Also not finding a sweet spot is “Civil War” — and this is despite warnings of a real civil war.

Conde Nast Union Sets Up Go Fund Me Page for Possible Strike, Threatens Anna Wintour’s Met Ball: Will Celebs Ignore Them? (Video)

The Conde Nast Union in threatening to upset Anna Wintour’s Met Gala on Monday.

In posts late Saturday night, the Union said if it didn’t get a signed contract, they’d likely show up on Monday at the Metropolitan Museum.

If they protest or picket, will the liberal celebs — many of whom were recently on picket lines themselves — just ignore the whole thing and go inside? Kardashians won’t care but what about the members of SAG and WGA?

The Union set up a gofundme page this evening and has already raised almost $14,0000 in case of a strike or work stoppage. They wrote on the page:

“The Condé Nast Union is SO CLOSE to finalizing our very first contract, which would grant protections to hundreds of employees. But right at the finish line—as at every other step in this process—management is dragging its feet.

We want to get this contract WRAPPED, but instead of bargaining with us in good faith, management is bringing insulting proposals on key issues like wages and protection of our jobs from permalancers, threatening us with additional layoffs (despite CEO Roger Lynch stating publicly there would be no more), and in some cases, even taking steps backward from their initial proposals, instead of working with us to find a resolution.

We want a contract that honors the work we do and value we bring to the company. We’ve tried to get there by bringing logical, actionable proposals to the table and diligently working through management’s proposals to find common ground. At this point, management could bring us a fair contract that doesn’t unnecessarily cut nearly 100 people’s jobs TODAY. Instead, they are delaying the proceedings and senselessly blaming the union for the hold up.

One thing we know for sure: There is no Condé Nast without us, and the way to demonstrate this clearly is to walk off the job. We are ready to do whatever it takes to win a fair contract.

Management will withhold pay from union members who participate in any future work stoppage, commensurate with the amount of days that we withhold our labor. We want to help union members who may face hardship from losing these wages—that’s where you come in. Members will be able to request funds from this page through a team of union stewards, who will be managing this money and ensuring it goes directly to our members. If we have any extra money leftover after paying out those who request funds, we’ll save it for a possible future Condé United strike fund. If we don’t go on another strike before we ratify our first contract, we’ll donate the funds to another labor cause or strike fund.”
