Never underestimate Lorne Michaels.

I have it written in my permanent notes.

This weekend “SNL” scored a huge ratings comeback I never would predicted.

Host Inde Navarrette from the horror movie “Obsession” and pop singer Gracie Abrams boosted ratings by 16.5% from the previous show.

I didn’t think Navarrette was so exciting, but her movie made $263 million in the US and double that worldwide.

Abrams has been on the show recently, and had an album that didn’t sell earlier this year.

So you wouldn’t think they’d bring big numbers. But their show cracked 5 million viewers — 5.16 million to be exact.

Also, it was Halloween, so you’d think the targeted age group would be out at parties. I guess not.

And maybe Tom Hanks in the cold open helped keep viewers around.

Whatever it was, Lorne must be smoking Havanas this afternoon. Job well done! I guess after 52 years he really does know what he’s doing!
