The Cannes Film Festival prizes have been awarded this evening, wrapping up the 75th anniversary experience.
The winner if Ruben Ostlund for “Triangle of Sadness.” It’s Ostlund’s second Palme d’Or.
The Baz Luhrmann movie, “Elvis,” wasn’t in competition. But get this: Elvis’s granddaughter, won Best First Film for co-directing “War Pony” with Gina Gammell. Riley Keough is the daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and an accomplished actress already. Maybe a little of Elvis’s magic sprinkled down on her.
Two movies tied for second place. “Stars At Noon,” directed Claire Denis and assailed by most critics, and “Close,” directed by Lukas Dhont.
The 75th Cannes fest sounds like it was lively and fun, with plenty of little controversies and several occasions to mutter “Sacre bleu!” at edgy filmmaking. But that’s what it’s supposed to be!
