Dr. Seuss is on the loose!

The perennial saga of “The Cat in the Hat” pulled in $5 million last night for $6 million opening. The family friendly retelling of a tail as old as time should do about $16 mil for the weekend. Maybe more depending on kids today and tomorrow, and parents just looking for a place of shelter.

Our Leah Sydney liked it. Review coming.

Elsewhere last night, that “Jimmy” Stewart movie has clocked in $832,477 in one night, so do the math. It won’t be a wonderful life, but it will be ok since this thing is meant for VOD. No one’s expected earth-shattering theatrical numbers. And few old fans can see it on the big screen first.

Martin McDonagh’s “Wild Horse Nine” was a little reined in from Thurs previews and Fri shows. At $2.475 mil so far the journey to Easter Island is more of a canter than a gallop. But this one’s a patient plodder waiting for some awards attention. In the old days, Fox Searchlight would have nurtured an Oscar-buzzed film. Will Disney?

No numbers so far on novelty hit, “I Play Rocky.” Maybe tomorrow if Amazon feels like it. The actual opening isn’t until November 20th.

And “You Can See Everything”? Will break $75 mil tonight. Not yet hearing of repeat visitors dressing up as Elizbaeth Holmes, but you never know!
