Dustin Hoffman, one of the greatest actors of all time, just turned 89 in August.
The two time Oscar winner and Emmy winner (not to mention three time Tony Award nominee) is publishing a memoir on Tuesday called “Look at Me.” I haven’t seen it, because getting a book from any publisher requires so much work I’d be older than Dustin by the time I got it!
I wondered what kind of publicity Simon & Schuster had planned for “Look at Me,” but so far that information seems unavailable.
That’s interesting, because the co-writer is Ariel Levy, now a “60 Minutes” correspondent. You can see her below with Hoffman in a little clip. She’s also interviewing Hoffman on Wednesday at Temple Beth-el on Fifth Avenue. (Dustin should be a “60 Minutes” profile!)
Last night, I can tell you exclusively, Netflix’s chief Ted Sarandos gave Hoffman a reception, book signing, and toast at the company’s offices. I’m told a big A list crowd was present including director Guillermo del Toro, Jon Voight — Dustin’s acting partner from “Midnight Cowboy,” plus director Jay Roach and wife Susannah Hoffs, David Foster, Jon Lovitz, and “Airplane!” director Jerry Zucker.
Also there: Dustin’s wife, Lisa, and their kids and other family friends from Hollywood and ‘real life.’
Sarandos moderated a Q&A with Dustin about his extraordinary career that includes “Rain Man,” “The Graduate,” “Wag the Dog,” “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Tootsie,” “Marathon Man,” “Death of a Salesman” on Broadway, and his wonderful performance in Noah Baumbach’s “Meyerowitz Stories.”
That’s some resume!
“Look at Me” comes out on Tuesday, and I’ll try and get it by then.
