Alex Gibney’s “Musk” movie is pretty much gone.
Released October 9th to four theaters, it expanded to 472 last Friday.
And now, one week later it’s gone from almost every theater in America.
You can still find it in one or two odd places that didn’t get the memo. And even it’s one showing a day at an odd time, like 10am.
“Musk” was released by Bleecker Street Films, which was sold in the last week to ebay founder Pierre Omidyar — not considered a friend of Elon Musk, but a billionaire nevertheless.
And just like that, it’s gone.
Online, people started commenting earlier this week that shows they’d bought tickets for were cancelled without warning.
“Musk” — which has almost perfect scores on Rotten Tomatoes and Fandango — is a completely unvarnished three hour look at the life of Elon Musk. It covers his whole life, including all business dealings and interviews with his 14 children’s mothers.
No one has one good thing to say about the Tesla owner. “Musk” is more of a horror film that anything else out there.
Generally movies have 28 day runs in theaters. But one or or two weeks and then oblivion is an extraordinary turn of events.
In New York, for example, where “Musk” had an audience, the movie is now playing just at the Angelika in Soho, once a day in the morning.
A list of theaters from Bleecker, which you can see below, shows that all 472 were listed as playing the movie today. But no more.
Earlier in the week, Tik Tok was accused to canceling the “Musk” ad page, but then was said to have restored it. The trailer is still playing on YouTube. For now.Â
