Give the people what they want.

Universal Pictures has certainly done just that with “The Super Mario Brothers Movie.”

Last night, Mario and Luigi brought home a shocking $55 million. In one day. Yes, I am not kidding.

If that keeps up tonight and tomorrow, Universal is seeing a $200 million five day take from Thursday through Sunday.

That is literally insane.

“Super Mario” is certainly entertaining the masses, and there will be many sequels to this thing in coming years. It’s also hard to imagine what this means for Nintendo, or the Super Mario world of electronic games. It should be a blow out if film fans who already have some games go back and buy more to continue the experience. Nintendo already brings in about $14 billion a year.

But success always brings jealousy, so look for Luigi and the other characters to start griping about not getting their fair shares and demanding their own movies. It’s just a matter of time!

Showbiz411 is now in its 13th year of providing breaking and exclusive entertainment news. This is an independent site, unlike the many Hollywood trades that are owned by one company. To continue providing news that takes a fresh look at what's going on in movies, music, theater, etc, advertising is our basis. Reader donations would be greatly appreciated, too.
