Is “Saturday Night Live” just repeating itself?
The new crop of hosts and musical guests, announced today, sound very familiar.
They include Gracie Abrams and John Mulaney, who were each on exactly two years ago. Phebe Bridgers performed three years with her band, Boygenius. The Strokes last appeared in 2020 with Mulaney as host.
Isn’t there any one else?
The two new names to the lists are social media star Druski, and horror queen Inde Navarette. In the case of the latter, there’s misguided hope that the “Obsession” star will get an Oscar nomination.
As for Gracie Abrams, her most recent album tanked. She’s not getting a Grammy award this winter. But I guess the music biz is so stultified the choices are not presenting themselves.
Meantime, there are lists and lists of legends who’ve never hosted the show, including Carol Burnett and Whoopi Goldberg. Why aren’t we seeing Nathan Fielder, who’s so hot right now, or Amanda Seyfried, from their new documentary, or someone from a contemporary movie? The original “SNL” proved itself with off beat choices. I’d like to see that again.
Anyway here are the next three shows:
