Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock?
Two of the best, most endearing actresses of our time. We’re lucky to have ’em.
Twenty eight years ago they starred with another Oscar winner, Dianne Wiest, in “Practical Magic.”
The movie was seared by critics, with a 30% rating. Nevertheless, it squeaked out $94 million at the box office, evenly divided by the US and international territories.
For some reason, Warner Bros. greenlit a sequel that comes out this week. It’s being panned — 38% again. No one knows why they keep making this movie. Is it sadism? Are they sado-masochistic?
So far, the best part of the movie has been the press tour. Kidman and Bullock are gorgeous, funny, and smart. Seeing them on red carpets is a pleasure. But it’s time to find some decent material. “Practical Magic 2” — I’ll say it now — is “impractible.”
