“ER” Star Anthony Edwards Isn’t in “Top Gun,” But Last Night He Sang Bob Dylan Songs on Broadway

“ER” star Anthony Edwards can’t be in “Top Gun Maverick” because his character, Goose, died in the first movie, Spoiler alert!

But last night the former “Dr. Greene” from “ER” made a surprise appearance on Broadway singing Bob Dylan songs.

Edwards’ wife, Mare Winningham, is the Tony nominated star of “Girl from the North Country.” After he dropped her off at the theater and headed home to Connecticut, Winningham called and told him one of the actors, the great Robert Joy, had been felled by COVID. The stand-bys were also sick. If they couldn’t replace Almond, they’d have to cancel the performance.

So Edwards zipped back in, picked up a script, and performed the role. He got a standing ovation, of course!

You can watch a video below of Anthony and Mare recounting the whole saga from her dressing room.

PS Mare deserves the Tony for Best Actress in a Musical. But she has the “Best Tony” already! (Sorry had to do that.) The show has seven Tony nominations in all!

“Girl from the North Country” just extended its run to June 19th. It’s the Best New Musical on Broadway, absolutely sublime. Don’t miss it!
