Everyone tried to kill “Suicide Squad.” I’ve never seen such hostility toward a movie that’s based on a comic book. On a comic book!
But it didn’t work. The DC Comics bonanza is eyed at $135.1. million for the weekend. That’s a record for an August release. “Guardians of the Galaxy” is now number 2 with $94.3 million.
Alas, “Suicide Squad” could have hit closer to $150 million if fan boys and others hadn’t tried to strangle it. The Friday opening of $65 million pointed to a possible bigger weekend. But a sharp drop off on Saturday put the kibosh on that.
With these numbers however, another “Suicide Squad” movie — actually two more– are inevitable since the cast signed for three movies. Plus there will be standalone movies for some of the characters starting with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and maybe Jared Leto’s Joker.
