Home Celebrity Mariah Carey: New Song “Save the Day” To Raise Money for Human...

Mariah Carey‘s had a slight pr problem recently. She and other acts like Beyonce and Usher have performed in St. Barts over the last few years at New Year’s Eve parties thrown by the sons of vicious, crazy dictator Muammar Ghaddafi. At the time, Libya was not in the news. The shows were booked by a name promoter who probably was not forthcoming about the true nature of the underwriters. Now it’s become an issue in hindsight, which is sort of ridiculous.

Anyway, Mariah is not happy about what occurred and is stepping up to the plate. First, she tells me that a song she will record for her album, called “Save the Day,” will only generate funds to be donated for human rights issues. She may even set up her own foundation. She’s done this before. All the money ever made from the song “Hero” has gone to charity–millions. She’s also donated millions from DVDs and from the song “One Sweet Day,” which she recorded with Boyz II Men.

Carey has always been very philanthropic. She still runs her annual Camp Mariah through the Fresh Air Fund; she supports it financially. She’s even given her image to PETA to sell, although considering the weather today she might want it back!

Mariah’s official statement about the birthday event:  “I was naïve and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess. Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately we as artists are to be held accountable.”

  2. Wow… I guess we don’t believe in 2nd chances huh? I guess people can’t be genuinely sorry huh? I guess if Mariah Carey was half the upstanding citizens you guys are, American society on a whole would be a much better place huh?

Who know whether she knew or not. No disrespect to Miss Carey, but she seems like the type of women who isn’t generally concerned about much that don’t pertain her personally so she probably never asked who she was performing for or their business as long as she got that check.

REGARDLESS, that’s nobody’s business. If she wants to make up for it, that’s cool. And be grateful that that was money spent on a concert and not terrorism. And she does do a lot of charity work so let’s not forget that.

Now, I hope you are take my advice and get some business. It will make you all a happy, more fulfilled people. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

  3. Are you kidding me? Everyone with a brain knew he was/is a dictator.

While reading this article that song kept creeping into my head; “If I only had a brain”. Well, Maria, get one and read something…anything.

  4. No immediate control over? She failed to ask the obvious question: who am I going to perform for? Just getting blind from the amount on the check is not an excuse.

  5. Mariah has given millions of dollars to charities. Much more than any of the critics here combined

It looks like she – or her manager – was dealing with a promoter and not the dictator’s son.

Are performers really supposed to know all about, and approve of, every person in their audience?

Whatever business you’re in, there is probably a murderer who is a customer of your company. How do you sleep at night knowing your paycheck is tainted with the blood of murderers?

  6. I beg to differ with the first comment regarding Hollywood Corporate Speak.

“I was naïve and unaware of who I was booked to perform for. I feel horrible and embarrassed to have participated in this mess. Translation: “I knew full well who I performed for, but he was so rich, the moment I saw him I swooned and fell into his lap, but my underwriter was paid big money to assume all of the blame and let me pretend I didn’t know who it was, in case of a public relations disaster like this.”

“Going forward, this is a lesson for all artists to learn from. We need to be more aware and take more responsibility regardless of who books our shows. Ultimately we as artists are to be held accountable.”

Translation: “I didn’t know nuthin’ and I feel horrible about the huge severance package I am going to have to pay my underwriter, in return for him being a good sport about taking all the blame, why next time I walk by sacs fifth avenue, I am going to have to just walk by, I won’t be able to go in and buy something, this mess has me so financially strapped.”

  7. I am a conservative generally. I respect Mariah for speaking out and admitting error. She has seemed in recent years to be mature, not that I spend a lot of my time watching about her certainly not judging her.

I do not care if she gives the money back or not she earned it legally.

I do hope her and many of the Hollywood types that are so often critical of others will think twice in the future in doing so. Michael Moore comes to mind to start and the list is long.

We all make mistakes, we all need a Messiah and he is the only one that was ever perfect on this earth.

God Bless you Mariah and all!

  8. Typical liberal America hating rhetoric. “Oh, I thought it was for a good cause. I’m not intelligent enough to know where the money’s going or coming from. That’s why I surround myself with a bunch of brain-dead liberals to check that stuff for me. I feel bad and, afterall, it’s all about my feelings so forget I support torture and murder and give me more money.”

  9. Well, duh! Would be nice if more celebrities admit how STUPID they are. Start traveling around America you celebretard- idiots – might get to know America and how much we LOVE THIS COUNTRY.

  10. Most celebraties are naïve about what is Human Rights. They believe Rights are granted by gov’ts, but gov’ts don’t grant liberties they take them away. That are their function, to take peoples liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness when one person infringes on another rights. She should have a nice long talk with the other Carey, Drew Carey.

  11. LOL. How could she not know?

Even I knew Qaddafi was an evil brutal dictator back 20 years go when I was in elementary school.

If she was some young artist, from Generation Y, then she may have a valid “I didn’t know” excuse because most punks from the generation are fricken clueless about anything. I find it that she “didn’t know” hard to believe and utterly absurd.

  12. I am NOT a fan of Maria because I am not a fan of her type of music. I do appreciate that she stated the obvious and wonder about people who trash her and others for something that they had no immediate control over.

  13. While Libyans were being tortured and buried alive for BEGGING FOR THEIR RIGHTFUL MONEY, Mariah, Beyonce, and Usher were cashing out BIG-TIME!

  14. Well, I’m a big fan. Mariah has a voice like a songbird. No hard feelings. If she points out the obvious, that Obama is driving the middle class into poverty, she’ll be the most popular singer in the country.

  15. She may be a savior but too bad she can’t sing. Has anyone REALLY listened to that cow? She couldn’t hit a note if it was on that fat ass of hers. I can’t stand to listen to her and have to turn ‘it’ off. I can tell when it is her singing when I hear the squealing of a pig piercing my ears. Give it up, Mariah!

  16. Oh, please, she’s only sorry because she’s been caught. Like a thief with his hand in a cookie jar, she’s been caught. She, Beyonce and Usher are pathetic and horrible.

This is how typical liberals operate: they donate money to good causes when it’s good for their PR but take money from tyrants’ families when no-one is watching or paying attention. Sleaze personified.

  17. Naive? More like just plain stupid. This guy has been around doing rotten things as long as Ms C has been alive. She should have known what this guy was all about. Ask a few questions once in a while balloon head.

  18. Hey Mariah:
Why don’t you donate what they you were paid to a charity, like Nelly Furtado did………………….Come on step up to the plate…
