Home Celebrity How Janet Jackson Paid for Michael’s Funeral

Janet Jackson indeed paid for her brother Michael’s “second” funeral in August 2009. According to papers just filed in the Los Angeles probate court by Michael Jackson’s executors, Janet wrote a check for just under $50,000 so that the Jacksons could stage Michael’s internment after the infamous Staples Center show earlier in the summer.

The funeral did indeed cost just over $1 million in the end, for which the estate wrote checks to Forest Lawn Cemetery. The funeral incurred a lot of other expenses, too, including $35,000 for Michael’s “funeral costume” and $21,455 for catering.

The estate’s records also show specific payments to Katherine Jackson, listed under different headings for “allowance.” For example, Mrs. Jackson receives $50,000 a month for her own allowance, plus all expenses reimbursed without question. This is all separate from mortgage payments on her home, payroll for her staff, and a brand new 2010 Escalade that cost approximately $83,000.

Line by line, the report–part of a petition to the court–shows that the execugors and lawyers–who themselves have made millions in fees–have carefully attempted to clean up an estate that was in total disarray when Michael Jackson died.

  1. Janet paid money but what about the rest of the family members contributing? MJFan Janet has her own money and is probly now the most richest Jackson out of all of them. She also paid for things for Michael when he was living, such as when he didn’t have money for the people that were working in Neverland Ranch at the time such as chefs and maids, and she paid for that with her own money. I’d like to know if anyone else out of the family paid for anything. IDK why some MJ fans wanna be quick to talk about Jan when she was the main one out of the siblings who had a bond with Michael…

  2. Janet didn’t owe it to him to pay for his funeral. She has made her own money and been smart with it, unlike him. Katherine is greedy just like Joe. Why shouldn’t MJ pay for his own funeral? At one time he was richer than Janet and it was his own fault he went broke. He was a grown man.

  3. The title “How Janet Jackson Paid for Michael’s Funeral” is Roger’s sarcasm and lead-in to get us to read the article. I love Roger’s sarcasm and reporting because he’s been following MJ for years and prints the facts. Bottom line is Janet didn’t pay anything towards MJ’s funeral. She fronted $100K and requested the estate reimburse her. MJ paid for his own funeral, burial clothes, dinner, invitations, flowers, security, Glendale police, framing of his own photo, $2000 wardrobe for the family, and friggin cars for the family to arrive in.

  4. This is old news. Janet is pathetic for only paying $50K for her brother’s funeral. In fact, I think it’s pitiful that the whole family would make MJ and AEG pay for his own funeral. This family couldn’t wait to get their hands on Michael’s money. That’s all they’ve been looking even before he died. Just worthless!!! :(

  5. Just appalling. How can this woman claim to be cheated by the estate? They really deserve to be applauded for their continuous work in untangling the financial mess he left, no wonder he was tired, all those parasites! Sad, oh so sad! MMH

  6. Looks like the executors of the estate are spending Michael’s money appropriately, i.e., a kingly funeral service and burial, generous provisions for the loved ones he designated, and so on. That’s as it should be. Good to know.

  7. Good old Janet, I always wondered why she hadb’t bailed the Jacksons out more often. On the day Michael died I understood that Hayvenhurst was up for fore closure, why didn’t she pay off the arrears then? A very complicated family, Michael seemed to have paid the bills for the running of his mothers house with all it’s hangers on. Was he paying the bills or paying them off so they didn’t write books or run to the media with their stories?

  8. Roger:
Janet was reimbursed for her partial payment for Michael’s funeral. When the Forest Lawn funeral contract was released online, there were copies of the attorneys emails of Janet requesting to be reimbursed by the Estate.

  9. The title of this article in so misleading. How in the world does putting down a less than $50,000 deposit = Janet paying for Michael’s funeral that cost more than $1 million? Michael Jackson paid for his own funeral as most other people do.
