Box Office: Final Indiana Jones Movie, Dial of Destiny, Lasso’s $7.2 Million in Thursday Previews

Indiana Jones is back for one final movie.

Last night’s previews for “Dial of Destiny,” starring Harrison Ford, Karen Allen and Phoebe Waller Bridge, took in $7.2 million, which is just right for an older-skewing finale to a 40 year old franchise. Disney is saying they expect $65 million for the weekend. They should be able to hit $20 mil a day for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, maybe a little more — that way they can say it “over performed.”

James Mangold managed to wrap this whole thing up pretty neatly. There are a lot of references to the first three movies, and just enough new stuff to bring people in. Phoebe Waller Bridge was an odd choice, as was her character, but it works. And Indy and Marion get a happy send off.
