Songwriter Diane Warren Responds About Oscar Nommed Song: “A Special Collaboration Between Myself and Lady Gaga”

Share

Eight times Oscar nominated songwriter Diane Warren just took to Twitter — with a response to fellow songwriter Linda Perry’s recent odd statements. Perry told an unreliable website that Warren wrote her nominated “Til it Happens to You” by herself, and added Lady Gaga’s name to the byline to get attention. It made no sense.

Warren tweets:

“Til It Happens To You was written for The Hunting Ground, an incredibly powerful documentary about sexual assault on college campuses. The song is the result of a special collaboration between myself and Lady Gaga. As Lady Gaga and I have consistly said. Til it Happens To you was inspired by the countless survivors of abuse who need our support and love so they know they’re not alone.”

When the song first appeared in “The Hunting Ground,” I asked Diane about it. She told me then it was a total collaboration. Lady Gaga produced the track herself, tweaking and reworking it with Diane. It’s an incredibly powerful track, I think, and the best song of the year.

And Diane Warren doesn’t allow someone else’s name on a song unless they worked on it, trust me, kids. Perry may have sour grapes here– I don’t know.
